Re: Cornell hockey at MSG every year - 10 years ago
I am just confused how someone can call MSG a dump after the most recent renovation. It is now like a brand new arena.by srg1 - Hockey
Re: Nice Tambroni article from Baltimore Sun - 13 years ago
Penn State made a big time hire with their wrestling coach and they did the same for men's lacrosse. They have yet to ante up for a top men's basketball coach. Football is in a period of transition with Paterno on his way out combined with them jacking up the cost to subscribe to football season tickets. As for hockey, I think they were short sighted when they built that arena in the 90s witby srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Next Cornell basketball coach - 14 years ago
I think Donahue's point during the Sweet 16 run was that he was going to deal with coaching opportunities after the season was over. Not that they were ideal spots for him, but I think he fell behind in the Seton Hall and St. John's openings because he was coaching Cornell. I think he made up his mind to aggressively explore every opportunity after the season. He gave 10 years to Cornell and tby srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue Returns? - 14 years ago
I will root for him. Whether some of the Cornell players fell into his lap or not, Donahue gave Cornell a Sweet 16 run that will almost certainly never be repeated or surpassed. He built this team and they improved for 3 straight years. I think he will be successful at BC. He only needs to get one or two strong players to make it happen.by srg1 - Other Sports

Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 14 years ago
phillysportsfan srg1 There has been a noticeable lack of outrage over Skinner's firing. I think it was time for him to leave the program. The BC AD wants a Coach Izzo. I think Donahue is more Coach K than Izzo but I still think he can be successful there. I would say there has been a lack of outrage because no one cares about BC basketball, Boston is a pro sports town and they havent gottenby srg1 - Other Sports

I think the BC job makes a lot of sense for Donahue and the school. I think this is the "home run."by srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Only a "home run" offer takes Donahue away - 14 years ago
Donahue knows that his market value may never be higher. He appears to be aggressively looking to move. My only concern is that the same things that make him a great Ivy League coach may not work in the top conferences. He most likely will not be recruiting or coaching the same type of athlete. Also, his down to earth intelligent style is great for Cornell. But will it work at places where lby srg1 - Other Sports
Cornell Sports - Improvement - 14 years ago
What do you think has contributed to the improvement Cornell sports overall? Obviously we still need improvement in football and soccer, but there have been positive strides made in lacrosse, hockey, gymnastics, wrestling, and track field among other sports. Is it the facilities? The coaches? The athletic director? I recall reading a report a long time ago from Cornell essentially trying toby srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
Trotsky Jeff Hopkins '82It does point out the irrelevance of Penn State basketball that 1) nobody thought you were joking or teasing and 2) Nobody cares that you were joking or teasing. There's a fanatical Penn State football fan at my job. He said he's met more supporters of the Penn State club hockey team than of their basketball team. The fact that Penn State is keeping DeChellis is a jby srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
How does the issue that Donahue may have lost other job opportunities while he was coaching Cornell to the Sweet 16 factor into this? Will Donahue get a raise from Cornell if he stays? Can Cornell make more money by charging students for tickets to basketball and not using the money from the student activity fee towards basketball?by srg1 - Other Sports
Re: UHN Pregame Thread (RIT and Denver too) - 14 years ago
As a 1996 graduate, I have seen how bad the program can be. The program can be a total failure without the right coach. I believe Schafer tried to change up the system one year and move to a faster, smaller lineup. Didn't he recruit the Justin Milo/Tony Romano class with this in mind? And it didn't work out. I feel like he has had to rebuild after that year. This year's team overachievedby srg1 - Hockey
Re: Basketball East Regional Roll Call - 14 years ago
upperdeck if you only want thurs games you can get section 200 seats for $74 thats better than a 100 level. My sales agent refused to rerun the search for other sections. Oh well!by srg1 - Other Sports
Re: Basketball East Regional Roll Call - 14 years ago
I did not win the Cornell ticket lottery. I just purchased my ticket by calling 1-800-867-2233. This is the Syracuse Ticketmaster phone number. For $80, I received a ticket in section 104. Online, Ticketmaster was offering me section 303. Therefore, I recommend calling to purchase tickets. Does anyone know which sections are the Cornell sections?by srg1 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell Basketball - ECAC Holiday Classic - 14 years ago
I spoke to Maria at the Hofstra ticket office. Very nice and well informed. 516-463-7988. She said they are taking orders but do not have actual tickets in hand. She estimated that Hofstra would purchase 500 tickets. The price listed on the St. John's site is slightly different than what Hofstra lists. Hofstra received price estimates and moved ahead with the order form. Also, the ticketsby srg1 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell Basketball - ECAC Holiday Classic - 14 years ago
I called MSG. They say that Ticketmaster controls the ticketing. I left a message for the Cornell ticket office. I spoke to the St. John's ticket office and they said they have not received any MSG tickets. They supposedly will call me when they get tickets in. I called Ticketmaster and they didn't know jack. This is bizarre. The tournament sounds like it will allow include St. John's seasby srg1 - Other Sports

Duke and Syracuse Games - 14 years ago
I have the end of the Duke game from two years ago on my Tivo along with the new Syracuse game. I now torture myself and flip back and forth between the end of both games. It is pretty painful. Moyer simply made a bad decision not to throw the ball downfield. I am not fully aware of lacrosse strategy, but why didn't a long stick throw the ball in to Seibald? Wouldn't that make more senseby srg1 - Other Sports
Moulson - 15 years ago
Moulson scored more goals in each of his last three years than the leaders of the 2008-09 team. He disappeared periodically, but he was a threat unlike what we had this past year.by srg1 - Hockey
Speed Game - 15 years ago
I think Shafer tried to change the team with smaller skilled players a few years ago. Those players didn't seem to like the defensive scheme and left the program or didn't work out. Now it seems like he is back to his tried and true formula of big bodied defense. The difference this year was that we were missing a speedy sniper to pair with Riley Nash. I also did not see anyone who could blasby srg1 - Hockey
