Re: Synergy - 21 years ago
I saw these a little while ago on an absent-minded Google search, but was a little skeptical of shelling out so much cash for something I haven't seen. Anybody able to vouch for the quality?by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Quantifications - 21 years ago
The home locker rooms were renovated no more than six years ago. While space may still be an issue, aesthetics are not. Other updates to Lynah (aside from the aforementioned replacement of the cooling system) have included the new boards and seamless glass, a new pressbox, repainted red/white walls, a new hockey office (again, space may still be an issue), a new sound system, the new plastic baby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Scott, I wasn't going to rat you out. But I'm sure glad you took the initiative.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

You know what would make this game better? A goalie fight.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Why you (as a fan) should behave at a hockey game - 21 years ago
Huh. I remember the laser pointer incident happening, but not much about the details. I do know that after staring at one of the more obnoxious drunks for a while (though not the same guy with the pointer), I realized he was a friend of mine in high school. Go figure.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Away rinks - 21 years ago
Chris' experience at Union reminds me of one of my favorite roadtrip stories. Picture it: St. Olaf... wait, wrong story. It was fall of 1995 and we were playing a Sunday afternoon game at Union. A few band members made the trip there, and Union rolled out the red carpet in their usual fashion. There were three punks in particular who stood right behind us and yelled, threw lots of crap, andby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: 2007 update - 21 years ago
He is in fact the son of our former coach. Schafer apparently did a good job of keeping McC in touch with the program, and is reaping the dividends now.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

The apostrophes are now fixed, thank you very much. That, and what Grant and Pat said.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: UWM-Fri. - 21 years ago
I could try to analyze our balanced offense, Moulson's strong freshman campaign so far, the Abbott connection, LeNeveu's mistake (?), our smothering defense against a hot offense (until tonight), but instead I'd rather be frivolous. We are not a little bit good. We are a lot bit good. Oh yes.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: UWM-Fri. - 21 years ago
My first time listening to the visiting feed, and I really like hearing ads from Kalamazoo. I don't like hearing penalties against Cornell.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Why I said - 21 years ago
The main issue behind the pep band being "broke" is that for the playoff run last spring, there was no SAFC emergency funding available. This was quite unusual; usually they're available to help out with the new expenses that pop up. They simply ran out of money. Fear not, this will not stop the band from going to each and every playoff game in the future, just as it did not last yeaby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
I've stated my opinion on this before, but I'd like to add one point: with this particular debate (short "die" vs. long "diiiiiiiie", there is no "fair" way to determine which is preferred by the majority of the Faithful due to the very nature of the options. One involves more sound, one involves NO sound (past a certain point). See also: "You just suck! Youby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: live @ lynah? - 21 years ago
Ah, don't get me involved. I don't believe in copyrights. Besides, in medical school, they teach you to hate all lawyers. Kind of like if you work for the Red Sox, they implant a chip in your brain that makes you say stuff like, "I just really want to beat the Yankees." I'm psyched for the new CD, and more importantly, the games this weekend! Let's Go Red!!!by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. BU - 21 years ago
I don't actually think it screws anybody up, I just hate it. It doesn't matter what my opinion of the cheer itself is, really, but I think everybody who does it sounds positively stupid (but then again, that doesn't really matter either). That being said, I'd pretty much say anything to stop it, although I'm a realist and realize it never will. I think I'll stop trying now. Everybody's got thby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. BU - 21 years ago
Perhaps people will notice that the band will jump right in to repeat the cheer. One would think that would send the message that "Screw BU!" is enough. Then again, if people listened to the band (or parts of it, anyway), they'd realize the "dieeeeeeeeeeeeee!" is the most annoying, dumb-sounding, obnoxious (to our lovely tuba players) thing in Lynah. You try lugging aroby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Letters to the Editor here - 21 years ago
1) The largest percentage of the Cornell alumni base (and thus, the donation power base) is obviously within the NYT daily distribution radius. Well, given that the daily distribution radius is the entire country, I agree with you. 2) If we are serious about this, why play grab-ass with Ithaca editors when we can go to a real national publication with our concerns? Because, quite frankly, tby Lowell '99 - Hockey

That can't be true. The wheel wasn't invented until 1926. And let's not even mention Yosemite Sam....by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: copyrights - 21 years ago
Dear Erica and Josh, Shut up, will ya? -Lowell P.S. Mike, I have a feeling that there is zero chance of anything being approved that would be something worth the trouble of making. While your efforts on the project are appreciated, perhaps you could find another way to go creating some form of commemoration.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: [OT] Hot Truck or Louie's? - 21 years ago
Hot Truck is a Cornell institution. Louie's is not. It's one thing to be crazy enough to actually like Louie's better; it's far more incriminating to be crazy enough to admit it. It's like saying you'd much rather watch intramural water polo at Cornell than men's hockey.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Isn't copying the New York Times a little.... petty? Come on. We're not UPenn students. Let's not blow things out of proportion.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Section G - 21 years ago
This situation begs to ask the question...what is a Cornell hockey game where one can't go and stand and support the home team. What is a Cornell hockey game where fans are more interested at bitching and booing one incident that actually watching the game? Both rousing boos came when our team was setting up nicely on offense in the second period. I don't think I'd like to hear random booingby Lowell '99 - Hockey

Pendergast is not an alum though. He was familiar with the program because we was an assistant here in the 80's.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Andy Noel - 21 years ago
I'm sure that Schafer does care, and that he cares a lot. However, as we all realize, he's got more pressing issues right now. The fact that he heard the news through a chat session underscores that the real problem with the Athletic Department is communication and, not entirely separately, respect. With regards to the former, it's cliched, predictable, corporate-style press releases in lieu oby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Links to free audio broadcasts by Cornell's opponents - 21 years ago
I've been as big a critic of the Athletic Department as anyone reading this, but I'm no longer angry at the charge for internet broadcasts. From talking to a friend who works in the department, I'm confident that they're not making a cent off this. A third party lays out the costs and reaps the rewards (as it were). It's a break even proposition for Cornell, and we as fans at least have the opby Lowell '99 - Hockey

I am not the #4 team, but I will, in fact, be in attendance. (Sorry, have to make a few "Lowell" jokes each year. No, this does not include the joke that I actually am).by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Like the subject says. Big game, very nice dedicated lacrosse field. I was thinking of organizing a modest tailgate, but then I realized I don't have a BBQ or car or anything that would allow me to. But if somebody else would do it, I'd be happy to eat your food.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

...or the lack thereof, is one of many reasons why baseball is the greatest sport. Point me towards the e-Shea forum I don't mean that last part. If there was a a forum that discussed baseball half as intelligently as this one discusses hockey, I'd be all over it. Alas, I have not found it. Let's Go Mets!by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: ELF success.... - 22 years ago
I wasn't talking about anybody in particular. I was just making a blanket statement about groupie-type behaviors, that's all. My response was also meant to be funny (I was going to say, "...vomit in my own mouth," but I didn't want to be accused of copying Bill Simmons). Perhaps the moral is this: not every comment requires a personal response. That's just a blanket statement, ofby Lowell '99 - Hockey
