Re: A New Lynah - 21 years ago
Personally, I think Lynah is just the right size. Another 1000 seats would mean plenty of empty seats on a far too regular basis. It's very myopic to judge our seating needs on this year- they'll never be higher. Despite that, if I'm not mistaken, it was actually pretty easy to get a ticket to the non-Harvard games this year. Besides this forum, there were often people selling outside the rinby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Hobey and Humanitarian - 21 years ago
Regarding which "I'd rather have," there's no contest. Being at the awards ceremony made it clear. Lenny winning the Hobey would've made me incredibly happy, but Sam winning the Hockey Humanitarian award made me proud to be a Cornellian. I'll take that one-for-two every single time. Now, if we're talking about a National Championship...by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: History of the Faithful - 21 years ago
Hell, I bet if you looked hard enough, you can find that exact paper out there. Not that I'm encouraging that sort of thing.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Golly - 21 years ago
Indeed they did not wear the whites for either game in Florida. How the seeding for that was determined is unknown to me.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: RED Rally Rags? - 21 years ago
I don't know, I think homer hankies are way cooler than thunderstix. I like the idea. You ever see Nebraska's football stadium? Unbelievable. It annoys the heck out of me that there are so many blue, yellow, turqoise, fuschia, etc. Cornell sweatshirts at games. The more red, the better, especially since we're the only school there that's actually red.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: To Those Going to Buffalo - 21 years ago
Yeah, you're right, I didn't mean to open up a can of whoop-ass on anybody. Sorry 'bout that. Ever since that annoying Colgate thread with those idiotic "I was offered a full ride to Cornell but turned it down! Suck it!" posts, I get all riled up about it.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: To Those Going to Buffalo - 21 years ago
G-ddamit, for the millionth time, Cornell does not have any freakin' scholarships, at least in the traditional sense. If somebody qualifies for financial aid, then part of their grant may literally have the word "scholarship" in it, but this sum merely replaces funds that would otherwise carry the nondescript label "Cornell Grant." I'm so sick of people screwing this up. Inby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four shirts and caps at The Cornell Store - 21 years ago
I'm hedging my bets. I didn't want to get anything at Providence, but I did want some sort of ECAC championship gear (which doesn't seem to exist). I picked up the long-sleeve Ivy Champs shirt at Ivysport.com in lieu of an ECAC shirt. Plus, it's actually kind of nice.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Buffalo Roll Call - 21 years ago
I'd delay graduation from med school if they told me I couldn't go. Fortunately, that's not the case. Sec 112, row 30, seat 20 (+ 2 Cornell friends right next to me).by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Next year's East Regional - 21 years ago
It was 1999, JTW, and unless they updated it, that place is a dump. Ugh.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Cowbell Etiquette - 21 years ago
In defense of Age, "joy" does not necessarily equal smiles and giggles. There's something to be said for a certain look of intensity and focus that carries with it far more joy and satisfaction than a more traditional cherubic grin does.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: New Cornell Recruits - 21 years ago
I believe that Schafer has gone out of his way to keep certain people in touch with the program. Look no further than the inclusion of a McCutcheon in next year's class.by Lowell '99 - Hockey

"Hail to those mother f***ers! Hail to those big c**ks***ers! Hail! Hail! To Michigan The cesspool of the west! Don't forget the second verse: "To hell, with those masturbators! To hell, with those fornicators! To hell, to hell, with Michigan The team we love to HATE!"by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: huge on-campus ncaa broadcast? - 21 years ago
I suggest you don't count on getting Frozen Four tickets through Cornell. I just don't see it happening.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Providence Roll Call - 21 years ago
I'll be there with bells on. Minus the bells, of course.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: WTF??? - 21 years ago
Regarding Ohio State: On the positive side, we beat them on their home ice early in the season. On the negative side, although the score was close in Florida, they really outplayed us. It looked like we were on our heels almost the entire game. We couldn't get any offense going. Perhaps it was just a let down from our well-played game against Maine the previous day, but it didn't look good.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: ECAC Awards - 21 years ago
I'm glad Schafer got some love for COTY. I know we were expected to be good, but #2 in the polls? For a while I felt like I was the only one who thought he might win. I know winning two consecutively is hard, but I think it's well-deserved.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: CCM Cornell hockey cap? - 21 years ago
Good lord. Having personally dealt with getting approval for various trademark uses many times as both a student and an alumnus, I can say that based on my experience, I would expect Cornell to approve the use of its name on CCM hats if somebody were to try to set up an order. You know, given that they've done it already. Then again, I'm just guessing, so I assume I should keep my mouth shutby Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: CCM Cornell hockey cap? - 21 years ago
If you're just getting the word "Cornell" on the hat without any disparaging remarks about anyone, I'd imagine the Day Hall folks wouldn't have any problem with approving them.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Princeton Game - anyone going to New Jersey? - 21 years ago
Section N1, Row E, Seat 33. Before the game was actually sold out but after rumors start flying on here that there were no seats left, I just popped on their website and actually got a ticket.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Vesce Milestone approaching - 21 years ago
Keep in mind that there's no distinction between regular-season and playoff points in NCAA hockey stats, so Vesce has at least 6 games to reach 100.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: poor grades? - 21 years ago
I think that in the Ag school, you can graduate with both latin honors and "honors in research." The "with distinction" label is in Arts & Sciences (and maybe others- I'm not sure). Also, the latin honors (in Ag) are based only on your GPA from your final two years, so you don't have to worry about any freshman mistakes.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: poor grades? - 21 years ago
What, no music majors? I guess my graduating class of 5 wasn't statistically significant...by Lowell '99 - Hockey

I'd like to point out that Dr. Heimlich was also Drum Major of the marching band when he was a student.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Colgate's Band - 21 years ago
Jeff, you've answered your own question about the Harvard band.by Lowell '99 - Hockey
Re: Yet another honors student at Harvard - 21 years ago
Heh. Still, it's not completely meaningful. Arts and Sciences, for example grants the title "With Distinction in All Subjects" to the top 30% by GPA, and I'd imagine other schools have similar pseudo-honors that would drive up the numbers. Sometimes it's thesis-based, sometimes it's not. Those two categories, "with distinction" and the more traditional "(summa/magna)by Lowell '99 - Hockey

Re: Colgate's Band - 21 years ago
Clarification: "The only REAL pep band in the ECAC" slogan that runs across the bottom of the web page is a variation on the marching band's motto, "The only REAL marching band in the Ivy League." The latter makes a lot of sense given the nature of the other Ivy bands. There are other section and/or occassion-specific variations, but that's it. Just that. There. I acby Lowell '99 - Hockey
