Re: Philly--Delaware Viewing - 19 years ago
Hillel, Great to see in the other thread that the test went well, and we are defiinitely on for Flanigans Boathouse in Conshohocken. Are you planning to have the Cornell Club send out an email for this event like they did last week? Also, assuming Flanigans will give us a room where we can actually hear the audio, should we, or Ohio State fans (included to avert wrath of woofing gods), pby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: Whats going on.....TV??? - 19 years ago
For the West Regional final, www.ncaasports.com lists CN8 (NJ, PA, CT, MA), but the CN8 website has the game listed only for their New England network, not their Mid-Atlantic network. I emailed CN8, but got only an automated thank you. Anybody know for certain if it will be available on CN8 in Philly? If someone obtains the big dish C/Ku band Satellite coordinates, I have often had succeby nshapiro - Hockey

There is a Fox and Hound in the ring road of King of Prussia Mall which has CSTV on a few sets all the time, but no volume. Hillel, Is the Center City location going to let us listen as well as watch?by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Blue Ice - 19 years ago
A few months ago, Hockey News had an article saying what is needed is a bigger neutral zone to make longer passes possible, but not shrinking the offensive zone. The solution that was proposed was widening the blueline toward the goal to be about 6 or 8 feet. This grew the neutral zone without shrinking the offensive zone.by nshapiro - Hockey
An extra reason to root against Hahvahd (sucks) - 19 years ago
As things currently stand, a Cornell win over St. Lawrence would flip the Michigan comparison, and that can happen if they pull a QF upset.by nshapiro - Hockey

CSTV is always on some sets at the Fox and Hound, in the ring-road of King of Prussia Mall. I watched a game there last year. I will try to get there tonight, but I may not make it.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Stupid Selection Committee Tricks? - 21 years ago
I was about to comment on Al's post, but then I wondered - do conference tournament games count as non-conference games??? What about non-conference games (eg holiday tournament games) that happen to be against conference opponents?by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: USCHO.com poll, 2/17 - 21 years ago
Ok, if you guys want another math problem that many have considered and none have solved try this: Pennsylvania used to have a Super 7 lottery, 80 numbers, you pick 7, then they pull 11 numbers, and you win if your 7 are in their 11. What is the minimum number of tickets that must be bought to guarantee at least 1 winning ticket? If this crowd can't solve this then I might try submitting it tby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
Denver and Providence are tied in PWR, with USCHO breaking the tie by RPI. Do we know for sure if the NCAA selection committee will break a tie the same way or is this a case where it is vague enough that they would use "judgement" and end up picking Provicence because they are hosting a regional?by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Interesting hockey poll in the Sun - 21 years ago
Sorry, but a "typo" is an unintentional instance of incorrect spelling, leaving out, or repeating a word, etc. This case was an example of ignorance. It might bee ok for awl of us to right the weigh we speak, but a journalist and his/her editors should know better.by nshapiro - Hockey

HockeyCam - Sun Investigative journalism? - 21 years ago
After feeling depressed again about our lack of HockeyCam following the Colgate game (which was actually my first experience with a HockeyCam), I was wondering if some ex-Sun staffers could let me know why this issue wasn't worthy of some investigative journalism. Wouldn't it have been a great story if an upper-classman actually commented that it stinks that his parents and friends back home canby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: - 21 years ago
Sigh, I will just point out that any defense of the US vs Iraq on moral grounds had better be taken with a grain of salt. In the last 60 years the US has used its own citizens - military, inmates, African Americans - as guinea pigs over and over again - testing the effects of exposure to the A-bomb, testing the quality of protective clothing, infecting people with syphallis just to study the rby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Phoenix, Carolina swap goalies - 21 years ago
Apparently they play pond hockey in Nashville: Defenseman Karlis Skrastins carried from his own zone into the low slot. His backhander caromed off a log and deflected to the left faceoff circle. Walker collected the puck and sent it under the stick of goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier for Nashville's second straight overtime winner.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Phoenix, Carolina swap goalies - 21 years ago
Jean-Marc played goalie for Phoenix this past weekend with Burke out for a few weeks, and Boucher nursing a sore knee. Phoenix lost 2-0 I also noticed that Phoenix just called up another goalie, I hope its not to replace Pelletier.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Effectively, what the article and this Avery study are saying is that an ED candidate is making himself a "hooked" candidate. It gives anyone a chance to be looked at as favorably as the legacy, athlete, and under-represented minority candidate. This seems to allow a student, who through no fault of his own is un-remarkable, to level the playing field.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Its not "waving the other acceptance letters" that matters, but "waving the other financial aid packages". Specifically, if you can show that other peer institutions have determined that your contribution is substantially less than Cornell's estimate, then the Financial Aid office will review their assessment. I know that Cornell has let applicants (ok, an applicant that I kby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Fine Al, but I think that is no more potent an argument than: 1. The admission bar is lowest for legacies 2. The admission bar is lowest for under-represented minorities 3. The admission bar is lowest for varsity athletes. adding 4. The admission bar is lowest for students who have promised to come to Cornell if admitted is just creating another preferrred class of applicant, and Cornellby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
Al, I take a slight exception to characterizing early decision as "when the admission bar is lowest" I think it can be fairly presented as another desirable component of an applicant's profile. In the same way as being a star athlete, a legacy, or an under-represented minority, an applicant expressing his/her committment to Cornell via early decision is another desirable quality thatby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
I don't think a economically challenged applicant is at a true disadvantage when applying early decision. What stops this candidate from applying to Cornell early decsion, and applying to other schools as well? He can accept the Cornell offer, and when other acceptances and financial aid packages arrive, he can wave them at Cornell and request they reconsider his package. This will help if peerby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Maine v. Harvard - 21 years ago
Sorry Zg, but my dictionary lists 3 acceptable variations on the spelling: Hahvahd, Ha+va+rd, and Harvard(sucks). I am sure that various combinations - Ha+va+rd(sucks), Hahvahd(sucks), Ha+hva+hd, and the preferred trifecta Ha+hva+hd(sucks) are also acceptable.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: Maine v. Harvard - 21 years ago
Now I could understand "rooting" for Harvard(sucks) against BC, because we don't play BC, but against Maine, there is one good reason to root for Maine. 1 - We play Maine next and I don't want their ranking diminished. I know that ranking doesn't mean anything, but I would like to beat them at their peak. and 2 - I don't want Harvard(sucks) to win the Belt. Sorry, two reasons toby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Clarkson on TV - 21 years ago
Would someone who speaks to Laura Stange see if she can get the satellite coordinates of the feed for the game. Feeds from Lynah have always been in the clear, and if this one is, then anyone in the northeast with a big dish should be able to listen. If you don't have a big satellite dish, just walk in to your nearest cable head-end and ask them to point one of theirs to your feed. Seriously,by nshapiro - Hockey

Any contract that my employer negotiates is reviewed by a team of lawyers and always has specific performance clauses. I think that the non-performance of RN, coupled with the fraudulent billing of people signing up for a free trial, should be examined by our lustrousless Athletic Department to see if Cornell can void the contract, make peace with the alumni, and restore the hockeycam.by nshapiro - Hockey
