Re: 2005-2006 PWR - 18 years ago
Winning against SLU vs someone else doesn't matter, that's not how the mechanics of RPI work. If you're 20 - 10 at the end of the year it doesn't matter how those wins and losses are distributed. Against the same set of opponents you can flip the 10 losses to 10 entirely different teams and still have the same RPI. If the RPI is calculated by averaging the winning percentage of your opponeby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: Cornell at Princeton postgame thread 1/14/06 - 18 years ago
We happened to walk out of Baker rink with the "organist" - a Princeton undergrad - carrying his keyboard that he plugs in to the PA system. He told us that this is something that they are trying out, and he was interested in what we thought. Too bad I didn't think to tell him about elynah. I told him it was definitely better than the recorded crap they used previously, but he had plby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: the official line idea thread - 18 years ago
So you want a way to prove your dedication, without risking life and limb, and without costing the Athletic Department any time or money? This eliminates monitored lines, dashes to get numbers, and equipment to track attendence at other events. Hmm.... Assuming every Cornell student has unlimited access to a PC, turn the process into a marathon, rather than a sprint. Set up a web site that evby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: looking for 2 line numbers and a suggestion for ticketing - 18 years ago
If you want to use loyalty, I liked the suggestion in the other thread about rewarding attendence at other Cornell Athletics events. I also have noticed that to get a block together, everyone is offering to trade their high numbers for someone else's low numbers. Wonder where all those people looking to trade their low numbers for someone else's high numbers are?by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] A new year of Sun excellence begins - 18 years ago
I was at a CAAAN training session last night, and learned that colleges have the ability (for an extra fee of course) to actually get the essays High School students are writing for the new SAT 1 test. Colleges can now get a pretty good idea whether the essays on applications are really the work of the applicant.by nshapiro - Hockey
Re: hockey line forming - 18 years ago
Just use the website. Give out the numbers online, giving a number and a password for each valid ID, and give that person some small amount of time (1 or 2 hrs) to report to the camp out location. I also liked the early '80s approach of separate numbers for grads, seniors, juniors, and the rest. This was done by matriculation date (really ID sequence number) , so only grad students that weby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: What I Did For (Sports) Love - 18 years ago
This reminded me of my favorite pre-game heckling, unfortunately it was after Cornell won the ECAC consolation game at the Gahden (1985 I think). Hahvahd (sucks) and RPI had come out for warmups, and a cheer got started by the Cornell crowd " FAT " (pointing at RPI coach Adessa, who was one big boy) "BALD" (pointing at Cleary). It kept up for quite a while, and even the secby nshapiro - Hockey

Re: [OT] VoIP experiences anyone? - 19 years ago
I agree that there is no confirmation that a body is in front of the TV. What DirecTV offers is tracking information that is not "sample based" like Nielson which puts a box in one of every 10,000(?) homes in key markets. DirecTV tells advertisers exactly what channel every settop is tuned to, and for how long. This is a new paradigm that has definitely piqued the interest of theby nshapiro - Hockey
Re: [OT] VoIP experiences anyone? - 19 years ago
Until the end of 2003, most DirecTV settops were WINK enabled, and provided shopping services from Barnes and Noble, MusicChoice etc. These settops would call back to Castle Rock CO or Los Angeles in the middle of the night if a purchase was made. I believe they called back periodically (weekly...or every other week) and uploaded all the big brother info about what channels you watched, and forby nshapiro - Hockey
