Re: Recruits 2006: The New Thread - 18 years ago
From my narrowly informed perspective, it appears that the overall depth and breadth of the recruits is as strong as we've had. These classes especially seem to have more true scorers to blend with the usual hard-working muckers. Given the general consensus that lack of scoring punch is our key missing ingredient, it will be interesting to see if there is in fact any change in style over the nby scoop85 - Hockey

I don't know about the quality of the league today, but the AJHL website lists under "Alumni" these NHL players: Mark Messier, Lanny McDonald and the Sutter brothers.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Tournament Games over the Holidays - 18 years ago
I watched a good portion of the game. The result was not a fluke. Princeton more than held their own throughout the game, got solid goaltending from Leroux and capitalized on their opportunities.by scoop85 - Hockey

Got my edition of SI at the office today. Great article. If we can't attract a top-flight goalie recruit now, we never will.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Quinnipiac postgame - 18 years ago
Got back from Ithaca after my first game at Lynah in many years. While I was in the corner in Section K (and did not get a good view of any of the goals), here's my two cents: 1. At this point we are nowhere near the team we need to be to contend for anything more than the ECACHL title (and maybe not even for that). Our passing was sloppy (the ice seemed terrible to me -- a real embarrassmeby scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Rangers v.s Capitals - 18 years ago
I too was not in favor of the shootout, but have to admit it has hooked me. Last night was amazing. Interesting to see Halpern and Moore turned aside on consecutive shots.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 1 (3rd) - 18 years ago
Union played a great defensive third period. Clogged the middle, stayed in the shooting lanes, great goaltending. Cornell had solid effort and is clearly the superior team, but was snakebit all night -- and the offense is pressing. Things are just not clicking yet. It's still early, but a bit too reminiscent of 2004 for my liking.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 1 (End 2nd) - 18 years ago
The effort is solid, but we need someone to finish ...by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 1 (End 2nd) - 18 years ago
While I didn't see those goals, the number of shots on goal to me has always been somewhat overrated. The quality of shots is far more important.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 1 (2nd) - 18 years ago
Well, we have a tough road ahead. On the last PP it seemed they were looking for the perfect shot. Union is going to play it very close to the vest. Hopefullly if they go into a shell we can finally break through.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Union 2, Cornell 1 (2nd) - 18 years ago
It seems that the refs call a penalty virtually anytime someone hits the ice (and this applies both ways).by scoop85 - Hockey

They sure seem to be pressing, and playing a hot goalie only adds to the pressure.by scoop85 - Hockey

Two thoughts: 1. Good to see Michigan State continues to play well against solid competition; 2. What the heck is going on with Ohio State?by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 @ Brown 2 (OT 11/5) post-game thread - 18 years ago
While the close calls are of some concern, at least we outshot Brown by a fairly wide margin (although since I did not hear the game, I don't know if that stat is indicative of the play). Against Yale the shots were even, and the game certainly sounded about even.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Yale Game thread - 18 years ago
Terrible powerplay, and now a make-up call, aparently. This is going to be a tough finish, as Yale seems to have the jump right now.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Yale Game thread - 18 years ago
Great save by McKee on a 3-on-1 after another giveaway ... it doesn't seem like we're doing much hitting tonight. Ya hafta wonder if the tight officiating is taking away from our aggressiveness. Now we have another PP -- let's put this one away.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Yale Game thread - 18 years ago
Based on the way we've been playing (it sounds like a number of giveaways in our own end), we may be overratedby scoop85 - Hockey

Re: MSU v. Cornell (Sat 10.29) - Game Thread - 18 years ago
Terrible icing by Kranz -- he had no pressure and iced it five feet before the red line. MSU's goal came directly off the ensuing faceoff. When have we last given up 4 goals in a period?by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: MSU v. Cornell (Sat 10.29) - Game Thread - 18 years ago
Good stretch of control in the MSU end, but not getting any good shots. But at least we are showing a bit more urgency.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: MSU v. Cornell (Sat 10.29) - Game Thread - 18 years ago
3-1, MSU powerplay goal. McKee made a few great saves but had no chance on the rebound. MSU really taking it to us this period.by scoop85 - Hockey

Re: NHL Draft / Sasha # 14 overall - 18 years ago
Congratulations to Sasha! The only downside is that such a high draft position makes it more likely that a player will leave early ... but I guess it's a problem I hope we will have to deal with frequently.by scoop85 - Hockey
Re: [OT] NCAA Lax QF: Cornell v Duke - 18 years ago
Valiant comeback when a complete blowout seemed likely. Reminded me of the Army game where a big mid-game run killed us, although we had a shot at the end. Magnificent carreers for our Senior class; too bad they could not have made it to at least one final four out of the three chances. I guess I would have to pull for Duke to win it all now -- add a little more validity to the season.by scoop85 - Hockey
