Re: Cornell in the Movies - 2 months ago
Dunc Cornell is name dropped in the Holdovers a few times Highly recommend The Holdovers, I Loved it And I know it takes place and was filmed in New England, but the bar they go to (pinball scene) reminded me a lot of The Palms.by RichH - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell at Dartmouth, 1/27 - 3 months ago
ugarte how did we get outshot by dartmouth what the fuck i'm still mad about this game The defense babied the puck in the defensive zone all night and just about any Dartmouth forecheck could have their way anytime. Why is it always Dartmouth. Seems like it’s over 20 years with this dark bugaboo they have on us.by RichH - Hockey

adamw RichH upprdeck if go on any kind of a run we get our RPI above .5600 and we move up 3-5 spots.. Are we good enough to do that. Like unbeaten in their last 7? That kind of run? Some of us need to chill out about the PWR situation in January and enjoy the rest of the regular season. We’ve barely begun the 2nd half of the league slate. Things are typically still fluid into March. Sheetz.by RichH - Hockey

Hmm. I could make some “real victim” crack, but instead, I’ll just say to CaL that I respect their place as long-standing poster here who has value in this space. I just took a beat and seriously thought about the point of view they presented. I feel bad that you’ve been hurt or offended by the changing times, even though I think you’re not fully seeing why changing policies are important inby RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Trotsky "Thank God there is still a sport for middle-sized white boys." Yesterday in Manhattan, we were solicited by a Black guy selling tickets to a comedy club. As I walked past, he said, "We need White boys." I told him, "Look up Colin Jost. He counts as two." Got the guy to laugh. dbilmes My nitpick about Vanini is that he uses the word "great" way too many times, making it lose its impact. I’ll allow it, for no other reason than it’s something different than the near constant use in sports broadcasting of the word “unbelievable” for anything that is deemed mildly positiveby RichH - Hockey

Re: Women 2023-24 - 3 months ago
Weder CU2007 I just looked at the women’s ECAC standings - they give out half points?! Yeah, it's what they came up with instead of having shootouts after OT. I looked at the NEWHA conference, and it seems they have a curious system where a win is worth two points and a tie is worth one point. Also strange they only have columns designating Wins, Losses, Ties, and Points. That’s it. Huh. How abby RichH - Hockey

HeafDog abmarksANd, to heafdog...as several pointed out way back when you first introduced that ditty, it's not even unique to the league. SLU? SLU chants "SLU". But we should continue to chant "Let's Go Red", right? Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. While not ideal, this nonetheless has energized people, injected some much-needed variety, and is a stepby RichH - Hockey

scoop85 Forward Parker Murray from Chilliwack of the BCHL has committed to Cornell. He’s a 20 year old 6’5” power forward who has a heavy shot. He’s the son of longtime NHLer Glen Murray. 2 inches taller than our last Murray with a heavy shot. Sounds good to me.by RichH - Hockey

ugarte Trotsky Wells?we play one or two D-III games every year. SUNY Morrisville was one of our first games this year, marking the first time I'd heard of Morrisville (the town, not the school) and I've lived in New York for 50+ years. Awfully glad to hear that there are ad-men who think people will want to buy Zagnut bars endorsed by famous Yale squash players. If there's one thing the general public adores, it's Ivy Leaguers. High-end recruits with brains will still choose Notre Dame/Duke/Stanford/name-your-Jock-Powerhouse-with-good-academics to play basketball over Penn/Princeton.by RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Dan Swanstrom new Cornell head football coach - 4 months ago
billhoward Ken711 The new indoor practice facility slated for construction this Fall is a good start. But, yes the new coach needs all the resources necessary to recruit student athletes and hire and retain a quality staff. 37 varsity sports, 1 practice facility. Does a 3-4 football team get priority over an 8-3 soccer team? And if the women's soccer team is 9-2? I mean, what do they all do rby RichH - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Hockey Coverage - 4 months ago
Trotsky It's a really low bar. Hopefully we'll begin to see something like the flowering of scriptwriting after fifty years of stifling by the networks, and we'll begin to see actual writers who cover sports, rather than the low effort, LCD hacks of the bad old days.by RichH - Hockey

arugula Just back from MSG and watching some of the broadcast on demand. God I Love Bernie Corbett. Terrific crowd if well below a sellout. I bought my ticket at 7:20pm. Available tickets at that time were very sparsely scattered across approximately a dozen sections, and I thought a majority of the tickets left were from resellers. They closed the extreme upper deck and bridge seats. It waby RichH - Hockey

Re: CU-BU 2023 - 5 months ago
arugulaWe can win this but it has to be a tactical masterpiece and we just take advantage of the few chances we get. Just wanted to highlight this. Was it a tactical masterpiece? No. But the D got their asses in line and Shane came up big where he had to. One particular toe save in the 3rd stood out to me. And the PP showed signs of actual creative movement. Chris '03 Probably time to move on from the 22-23 thread... Matt Moulson to the booth: “ Moulson’s alma mater, Cornell, has a history of producing hockey TV analysts, notably including Ken Dryden, who was in the booth with Al Michaels to call the 1980 Winter Olympics tournament.” Famed analyst Ken Dryden, but it took him over a decade to make a name for himself.by RichH - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Princeton 11/18/23 - 5 months ago
sah67 Still a big concern for me at the moment is how easily smaller teams are muscling our D around on the forecheck and forcing turnovers. This happened constantly during the Harvard game, and the game-winner at Princeton was a direct result of one of our D-men (Robertson I think) getting roughed up by a Princeton forechecker and coughing up the puck deep in our zone. tycho Trotsky I'd like to think he was offered a position with the university. He couldn't cut it as the HC but as someone said above he bleeds Carnellian and white, and that's worth something to me. +2. Time for a change, but no personal vendetta from me. Best to him and his folks. And I thought the tone of the official announcement was spot on in acknowledging and respecting that. Well donby RichH - Other Sports

kingpin248 billhoward With the season ended, the most likely outcome is for David Archer to step down as head football coach or be removed. Given his two-decade career with Cornell (including as a player), he might find a second life in athletics or Cornell administration. The decision will be easier – less hard – to make this year: * Cornell football lost 3 more games than the best-under-Aby RichH - Other Sports
