Excellent. Have they announced the time of the CU-QC game?by ugarte - Hockey
Re: 2001-02 team - 22 years ago
This season was not a failure. It was a thrill to be a part of, even if the ECAC tournament ended disappointingly. I wish the team the best of luck in the NCAA tournament, and hope that they can surpass expectations and knock off a very strong New Hampshire team. (I can't even bring myself to face the prospect of losing to QC. )Beating UNH will get us to a rematch that we want (BU) a chanceby ugarte - Hockey
Re: The actual GAME against Harvard - 22 years ago
I thought that the problems with our play outstripped the officiating problems. But, if you want to know what I thought of the officiating, I thought they were generally very hands off. There was a lot of mucking around that didn't get called on either side, and Harvard got a slight advantage from it. There were two bad calls that clearly went against Cornell, but it would be unfair to say thatby ugarte - Hockey
The actual GAME against Harvard - 22 years ago
Because the server crashed (and most of the usual suspects were in LP anyway), there wasn't any discussion about the game on the board. (By the way, thanks to Age for getting it back up so quickly.) OK, so we are in the tournament and the past is the past but. . . We were outplayed on Saturday. I thought that we were lucky to last as long as we did, and it was very disappointing to see. RPI beat Clarkson. Michigan beat OSU (bad day for OSU!) Enjoy playing with these new results in the script.by ugarte - Hockey

Re: ECAC idiocy - 22 years ago
I'll give you the "third place" quote. That is really embarrassing. But I have to disagree with your frustration over "nationally ranked Engineers". It sounds to me like the author of the article is only calling RPI "nationally ranked" as a way of praising the Big Red defense. In other words, Cornell didn't shut down a team of scrubs, Cornell blanked a "naby ugarte - Hockey

Thanks for the tip. Blondie's was packed, and wouldn't put on the hockey. I would have minded less if St. John's didn't play so poorly. . .by ugarte - Hockey
Re: THOUGHTS ON NCAA - 22 years ago
I don't see why you are pissed at the HE columnist. He makes a good point from the HE perspective: a Cornell loss could cost an HE team a bid, but a Cornell win could cost an HE team a bye. In that analysis, no matter what happens to Cornell in the ECAC tournament somebody from HE would pay the price. "Pick your poison" is exactly what an HE fan would have to do when deciding whether tby ugarte - Hockey

Disagree. We have to win, but I want that game to go to triple overtime.by ugarte - Hockey

It's a hockey game, not The Matrix. You don't lose much with the difference between fast and slow recording speeds.by ugarte - Hockey

I read this topic before I read Melissa's answer on the other topic. I was a bit disappointed myself . . . And since it seems that Age has taken down the message, there is no way to use my "late" advice anyway.by ugarte - Hockey

Re: Biting Sun Article - 22 years ago
Ivy league schools are committed to athletics in the best "healthy body/healthy mind" spirit. That means that the schools offer teams in a lot of sports - to ensure broad participation by students rather than a laser-like focus on media-friendly sports to ensure broad entertainment for students and the surrounding community. I like that a lot of people will pick Penn to beat Cal whenby ugarte - Hockey

Re: ECAC picks Grady - 22 years ago
Well of course they picked Grady. Grady Whittenburg is legendary. And the Brown crew was hysterical. I get the feeling that they pace themselves drinking so that they can make it through the game, but it caught up to them when the game went into 2OT. One of the guys called the Harvard team "dirtbags" and accused Mazzoleni of intentionally coaching dirty play.by ugarte - Hockey
Re: Hopes for the weekend - 22 years ago
I seem to recall that Dartmouth still calls itself "College" due to provisions in either the college charter or the land grant or some such document that prohibits the school from becoming a "University". Because this is just so much form over substance, it sounds urban-legend like. I don't have a source, so take it with a grain of salt.by ugarte - Hockey

When I meet Tim Taylor, I will give him a "hail fellow well met" and congratulate him on the sporting effort his team put in. Until then, when chatting amongst friends in my own house, Tim Taylor and Yale can go scratch.by ugarte - Hockey
