Re: Alumni in the Playoffs - 2010 - 13 years ago
Guess it fits in here. Was out on Thursday night with some friends and saw a bus escorted by police coming down the street. Jonathan Toews stuck his head out the window and I followed as they stopped two blocks down to go to some club with the Stanley Cup in tow. I snapped a few pics. It looks like the Blackhawks had a pretty good Thursday night.by Willy '06 - Hockey
Re: Riley May Be Traded - 13 years ago
Normally an NHL team wouldn't be too upset with this, however Cornell isn't a really hockey power house, and the Oilers feel that its not helping his development to play in Cornell.by Willy '06 - Hockey
Re: Places to eat in Ithaca - 13 years ago
This is an extremely helpful resource: If you are looking to spend some serious money, check out The Heights or John Thomas. I live in downtown Chicago and eat out a lot, and those two would stand up to nearly any of the places that I've been around here. It's too bad that you're going to miss the Farmer's market because that is also a great place to eat.by Willy '06 - John Spencer Is Dead

I also wonder if fences could have some "unintended consequences." Yes, they may make it a little harder to jump, and they could even convince someone not to jump, but every undergrad who walks by those fences will think about suicide when they do. I haven no idea what that means, but I'd hope that the administration has taken a research based approach to taking the right action.by Willy '06 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Zero productivity week for Cornell fans - 14 years ago
I actually got a lot done this week. Last week was far less productive for me. True story: I wrote a Labor Economics paper on the effect of deer hunting season on unemployment rates in New York State. Found a very small, statistically significant effect. Maybe I should do a followup paper on Cornell fan productivity... nah, I'd rather watch the game.by Willy '06 - Other Sports

I really don't like the idea of fences. Maybe it's just because it is too close to the urban legend about nets under the bridges during exam time.by Willy '06 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Polls 3/22 - 14 years ago
Josh '99Once again I find myself wondering: WTF happened to Kalemba this year? 2006-07: .897, 2.77 2007-08: .913, 2.43 2008-09: .944, 1.48 2009-10: .891, 3.33 Princeton graduated two of their top three scorers last year in Lee Jubinville and Brett Wilson, but no defensemen. Why'd they fall off such a steep cliff defensively? It looks more to me like WTF happened to Kalemba last yby Willy '06 - Hockey
Re: Greatest Cornell sports day ever? - 14 years ago
I think we have every right to be pissed off. Cornell is getting some serious national attention, and then Tiger Woods decides to do an interview and a healthcare bill gets passed. Goodbye front page.by Willy '06 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell vs. Union - 14 years ago
cth95 The one advantage to not being there was seeing some of the interviews on TV. Greening and Scrivens were both very well-spoken and neither gave the typical cliched responses. Their answers were well-formed and inciteful. It is a pleasure to know that classy guys like these are representing our program. What were they inciting?by Willy '06 - Hockey

Re: morgan uceny - 14 years ago
I happened to have ESPN at the time. I was disappointed that I didn't see Morgan in the 800 (I think that's what she used to run), but then surprised to see her running the 1500. She came extremely close to placing 2nd after having a sizable lead, but she just barely stayed ahead. The woman who came in 2nd blew past Morgan once they both crossed the finish line.by Willy '06 - Other Sports
Re: Just out......#25 in basketball - 14 years ago
Looks like we lost 7 votes in the ESPN poll, but kept our 2 votes in the AP poll. I think the chances that we are out for good are pretty strong now (I guess they already were) considering a 2 win weekend has us losing votes.by Willy '06 - Other Sports
Re: big weekend for basketball @Harvard/@Dartmouth - 14 years ago
My girlfriend's volleyball team would disagree with you. They shared the Ivy Title 4 ways her freshman year (made it to the finals in the playoff where they lost to Yale). That was a big step for the program. They won the championship outright the next two years. Yes, for basketball it would be a big step back and a disappointment, but not completely meaningless.by Willy '06 - Other Sports
