Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
ACMRatushnyFanThis was Scrivens' first start, right (though he has played before)? Has another Cornell goalie pitched a shutout in their first start? Just curious but no time to look it up. 11/19/83 Don Fawcett, 5-0 over Wilfrid Laurier 12/3/60 Laing Kennedy, 9-0 over Pennsylvania So the next time we can expect a first-time starter to pitch a shutout will be the year 2029. Good to know.by Will - Hockey
Re: dressing 3 goalies - 17 years ago
las224In reply to ACMAnd sometimes there isn't a third goalie. Like last season. Or the season before, after Davenport left. Last season we had McKee, Chabot, Dileo. That's three, and yet I feel like Dileo rarely dressed. I realize it wasn't as necessary because Dave was great, but if it's allowed and doesn't affect the number of regular players you can dress, why not dress him just in caseby Will - Hockey
Re: dressing 3 goalies - 17 years ago
Ronald '09Okay, I didn't know that. But that begs a bigger question, why wouldn't every team dress three goalies? Sometimes it's not deemed worth it to bring a third goalie on the road. Sometimes the team's third goalie is injured or otherwise unavailable.by Will - Hockey
Re: Cornell Penalty Shots - 17 years ago
ACMChuck HendersonGive My Regards1/20/73 -- Carlo Ugolini, vs Toronto (Anderson) -- score This is the one that really stands out in my memory. Ugolini did a complete 360 as he came in on the goalie. Is that even legal now? What goalie? The player who defended the penalty shot, Warren Anderson, was a defenseman, inserted by Toronto coach Tom Watt for reasons apparent only to him. Re: Alumni in the Pros -- November 2006 - 17 years ago
Larry72To answer John Garrett's question - So far 8 Cornell goalies have played at least one game in the NHL: Ken Dryden 1971-1979 6 Stanley Cups Brian Hayward 1983-1993 Darren Eliot 1985-1989 Doug Dadswell 1987-1988 Corrie D'Allesio 1993 Parris Duffus 1997 Jean-Marc Pelletier 1994, 2003-2004 David LeNeveu 2006 Not a bad list!!by Will - Hockey

I think I agree more with Ari than I do with Rich here. Nash looked out of position to me at certain points. I don't think he's an awful player in the least, but I do think he needs some work in some areas.by Will - Hockey

Jim HylaAs others have mentioned, our defense is good and offense is fun to watch. We have never had great PP, so I don't expect it now, better yes, great ,no. I do expect our PK to get better. Actually, we had the best PP and PK in the country in 2004-2005 , when the current seniors were sophomores. It's not totally unreasonable to think that Cornell should be capable of getting back to theby Will - Hockey

Re: ECACHL: Best Conference? - 17 years ago
The problem is that the ECACHL needs to do better when the games count the most, in the postseason. While I've been watching college hockey, ECAC(HL) teams have made it to the Frozen Four a total of two times. Frankly, twice in seven seasons is pathetic. The ECACHL needs to be better and be more consistent in the NCAAs. At least one ECACHL team--preferably Cornell--needs to make it into the Fby Will - Hockey

RichHDpperk29simple solution... don't pay for it then. I'm not, but that's my reason for posting. "Don't pay for it" ISN'T a simple solution, or a solution at all; it isn't solving anything, which is my point. It's going to take more than inaction and "not paying for it" from one or many people to get this changed. Athletics can just sit back and say "well, we offereby Will - Hockey
Re: Weekend Not Yet a Sellout - 17 years ago
ftyuvWell, I'm a MA resident, but yeah... Think of it this way. You could have gone to UMass-Lowell, who hasn't been to the NCAAs since 1996, or you could have gone to UMass-Amherst, who has never been to the NCAAs at all. Say what you will about Cornell. At least we get to go to the big dance on a regular basis.by Will - Hockey
Re: Infamous 5th Down: Cornell vs. Dartmouth - 17 years ago
Great bit of sportsmanship by our guys, but they probably should haven't mentioned the part about waiting for Dartmouth to refuse the forfeit, since that just makes Cornell look like sore losers. That being said...Dartmouth still sucks.by Will - Other Sports

ftyuvebilmesAnd, Clarkson loses to the kids, 6-2, at home. Ouch. Their website describes it as a "slow start," but the opponent "taking a 4-0 lead midway through the first" isn't a slow start in my book, it's a damn fast one -- just, in the wrong direction. 52 minutes of penalties earned 3 points for the kids and 1 for the Knights. I hope they enjoyed their decaminute oby Will - Hockey

Re: Season Preview is Up - 17 years ago
Just a little more fact checking: Oh yeah, and there are zero minutes of experience at the collegiate level between the three goaltenders. Actually, Troy Davenport had a whopping 9:13 of collegiate experience in the game against Army in 2004-05 and made a grand total of two saves. Not that it really invalidates your point. Otherwise, though, good analysis.by Will - Hockey
