Re: Ivy basketball title Penn's to lose. Again. - 17 years ago
Penn vs. Texas A&M. I'm probably really dumb to do this, but I'll pick Penn to beat them in my brackets just because I don't like A&M. Stupid aggies. Go Quakers!by Ben Rocky '04 - Other Sports

Re: WHY CORNELL WILL NO LONGER DOMINATE THE ECAC - 17 years ago
I wasn't quite convinced it was true until I read Ice Meets Metal's post. Now I know its true. I'm gonna stop following Cornell hockey and switch my allegiance to Mercyhurst, or maybe Minnesota. There has to be a hockey program out there that isn't sinking with the Titanic. Any suggestions? Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
Josh '99GiffyThe city did put up more money for the Steelers and Pirates new facilities just 8 years ago, totaling $840 million. If you ask me, the money on the Pirates should have been spent on the Penguins, who are and will be much more competitive over the coming years.Of course, nobody knew 8 years ago how effectively the draft lottery would get rigged in Pittsburgh's favor (resulting in howby Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey
Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
KeithKI think we can definitely blame Rendell. For lots of things unrelated to the Penguins . But on this one Ben is absolutely right. It makes little sense for a municipality to build arenas/stadiums for professional sports teams. If your business requires a new facility to be competitive do what every other type of company does. Secure financing and build the facility yourself. (Though adby Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey
Re: OT: Penguins Moving - 17 years ago
amerks127You really can't blame Rendall, nor can the currently elected Pittsburgh officials be blamed. What we have here are the culmination of events, at least 15 years in the making. Other than the NYC area teams (New Jersey is building the New Jersey Performing Arts Center),and Detroit, Edmonton, Calgary and Anaheim (1993),every NHL city has an arena that opened no earlier than 1996. Re: Lynah East and/or Dartmouth Roll Call - 17 years ago
RichH In 14, you'll have a good shot at exchanging taunts with Evan Finchester Snood IV, and the rest of the Harvard student section, like that weird painted concave-chested fellow with the hockey helmet, and the 5 'roid-raged football players looking to start fisticuffs. Instead of fisticuffs, wouldn't they rather race their daddy's yacht against my daddy's yacht at the cape this summer? Liz,by Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey

KeithKBen Rocky 04[Lynah needed some renovations and those visiting lockerrooms were a joke, so I support that. Why do people not understand that that was not a bug, it was a feature? Re: Should Cornell Build a New Arena? - 17 years ago
ugarteThey had a couple of shockingly good recruiting classes and managed to get to the Sweet 16. I guarantee you that Bucknell's current success and attendance is an abberation. At some point in the next three years Bucknell will not win the Patriot (hell, it could be this year) and they will no longer sell out the building. Also, Patriot League teams can give out scholarships which gives them aby Ben Rocky '04 - Other Sports
Re: Should Cornell Build a New Arena? - 17 years ago
ugarteCornellFanDoes anyone else think that Cornell should build a new arena? I think Cornell would be better served with a larger venue than Newman, say in the 10,000-15,000 seat capacity range. The new arena could be used for both basketball teams, concerts, notable lectures as well as special events such as graduation related activities. Newman could then be used exclusively for the volby Ben Rocky '04 - Other Sports

[way OT] WP series on Walter Reed hospital - 17 years ago
These are well-written articles about the conditions, red-tape, drinking, pills and PTSD at Walter Reed Army Hospital in DC, but are rather depressing. Registration is required, but its free. The Pentagon, Congress and White House react to these articles:by Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead

jtwcornell91I rather like the look of Caltech's campus (what there is of it). Please tell me you're kidding..... its a wonderful combination of a white cake right in the middle of things, ugly 50s labs all painted a fading yellow, turtles and weird 60s modernism. Ugh.by Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey

Re: HARVARD SUCKS - 17 years ago
jtwcornell91RichHPersonally, I get more of a Cornell vibe from the UC Berkeley campus than I do from Stanford. The hills, the clock tower, the not looking like a Taco Bell... Having just finished a cross-country roadtrip and having wandered U-Dub's, Reed's, Stanford's, Cal's, CalTech's, Texas's and USF's campuses, I'd say Stanford's stood out as the most gorgeous and unique. Re: Any Ideas for the Proposed Development In Ithaca - 17 years ago
reilly83Generally, there seems to be an anti-wealth sentiment and alot of desire that low and middle income housing be built. The desire to build middle- and low- income housing stems from the fact that there isn't enough of it in Tompkins County, and what low to moderate income housing we have already is not located within a reasonable driving distance of major employers but instead is in Ulby Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Retired Number - 17 years ago
kroseI would add, as a point of clarification, that Cornell has granted exactly 2 honorary degrees in its history, to David Starr Jordan '72 (first president of Stanford) and the introduction-less ADW, both at the same time (1886), and with an unwritten return to a policy of not granting honorary degrees that has stood for the last 121 years. Re: Holiday tournament competition in Florida next winter - 17 years ago
KeithKugarteBen Rocky 04Josh '99Ben Rocky 04ugarteMan, I want Cornell to start playing in the T/SP tournament. The in-laws live in the area and it would give me something to do on a trip down.
