Interesting problem they seem to be facing. Seems in some ways similar to the 1A vs IAA split, but I don't think AA schools are required to field a minimum number of varsity teams. Actually, it seems more reminiscent of Ivy vs. say SEC. 33 vs. 17 varsity sports fielded. Lets hope they come up with a solution (specifically one that doesn't rock our boat).by Ben Rocky '04 - Other Sports
Re: Holiday tournament competition in Florida next winter - 17 years ago
ugarteMan, I want Cornell to start playing in the T/SP tournament. The in-laws live in the area and it would give me something to do on a trip down. Why play in Notre Dame's tournament when we have our own? We've gotten good teams scheduled at ours, year after year, with very few (if any?) AHA or CHA teams, and who says this one at the SP-Time Forum will be a regular thing. Lets be happy withby Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey

CU LAX has retired one number already (two? Boiardi?) I, for one, don't have a problem with them retiring a number for a former member of the men's hockey team.by Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey

evilnaturedrobotdtoThis is great news. Two of the teams I despise the most will be playing a hockey game right up the road a piece from me. (Still some hard feelings over that BU game in ummm 92???) Despite all this, it is hockey, and quality college hockey, count this Clarkson fan in for the game and the good of college hockey. ugarteI'll simply say that you don't understand how advertising works or notice how effective it is on you. Advertising works on people smart and dumb and viral marketing is often designed to work on people who pat themselves on the back about how immune they are to advertisers. Oh my god, you're right. I guess I'm not gonna buy Vista for my Powerbook G4 now that I found out I've been tricked..... ugarteI'm not sure why you are OK with it taking over public spaces but not your email inbox. Both are intrusions into your lives done without your consent (or even ability to not consent). Viral marketing turns the world against you, tby Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: newsflash: Boston Police scared of lights, cartoons, middle fingers - 17 years ago
Don't get me wrong, I think the police should treat anything called in as a potential bomb as a bomb threat, but charging these two guys with placing 'hoax bombs' on the bridge is bull shit. They didn't intend for them to create panic, they intended for them to increase DVD sales or adult swim viewership. The charges have totally been brought on these guys because the powers that be are embarrasby Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead

This would be hilarious, if the Mayor, State Attorney General, Police Chief and Governor weren't so insane. I don't even watch the show, and I recognize these things are cartoon characters. Not only did they hideously over-react, but it took them a week to notice these billboards in the first place. Pathetic Mass-holes.by Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Cornell 3 Maine 6 Post-Game Discussion Thread - 17 years ago
ebilmesSeems to me that there's not a lot of new stuff to talk about. Davenport was off and had to be pulled--again. Special teams stunk--again. Maine was a better team than us. I don't think Davenport should have been pulled. The first Maine goal was unstoppable, and the second ME goal was from a total defensive breakdown. Letting in two goals bad goals isn't so bad (cough cough Ben Bishop).by Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 Maine 6 Post-Game Discussion Thread - report from estero - 17 years ago
Good game, but the PK didn't look good and the defensive breakdowns for the first and 2nd Maine goals were bad bad bad. Liz describes the 2nd Maine goal as "the parting of the Red sea." You could have driven a zamboni through there. 5th Maine goal was caused by a CU player (28?) slipping on the ice and leaving a hole open. Krantz's 3rd CU goal was an amazing bullet. Unfortunately, iby Ben Rocky '04 - Hockey

krose Everything you said here is based on faulty assumptions I noted above. First, imagine that all property---that means everything, including the roads---are privately owned and that private owners had access to privately-contracted security of a more or less unlimited degree through local insurers and reinsurers acting as private security contractors. I'm saying that Kyle's push for people to purchase guns for self-defense is going to kill and injure more innocent people than stop burglars. Statistically speaking, I'd say it is a bad idea to keep one in the home as they seem to be very dangerous to your family members and friends. I could search around the internet for 5 more minutes and find stats on concealed handguns being more dangerousby Ben Rocky '04 - John Spencer Is Dead
