Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
Yeah - but I think it's pretty cool that we have two cheers to MHALL. Just part of the culture - you have to be an insider to know that when the trumpets play, it's FMK, but when the crowd starts it, it's Great Big Sieve time. A couple other folks and I made a (large) Fight Maim Kill banner for Lake Placid in '96, but it apparently got some negative feedback from other teams' fans (imagine thatby Robb - Hockey

Re: Sejna Scores - 21 years ago
Besides - wasn't the game in Denver? That's what - 2-3 hours from CC? He might have only missed a day or two of classes. I'm sure his much-touted GPA can withstand that hit. He'll probably miss more class time to attend the Hobey ceremony than he did to play that game....by Robb - Hockey

Re: Question from a Pre-Frosh - 21 years ago
Wow - you all are too nice. I was expecting to see responses like, "at the vet school tower on Nov 1," etc - especially if you are worried about a long line for tickets this fall (I would be, too!). Good luck to all who strive for tickets this fall - should be a wild time....by Robb - Hockey

Go Cantabs! Even if we don't make it to Buffalo, it would still be nice to see a team that we beat 3 times there! Same goes for BU....by Robb - Hockey
Re: Blaeser/Moy - Perfection or Monkeys got lucky? - 21 years ago
Not at all, Greg. I went to a public high school in the hills of East Tennessee (dropout rate ~20%) - and arrived at Cornell with 27 AP credits in my pocket. School is way more about what you put into it than what it "puts into" you.....by Robb - Hockey

Re: Quality Wins - 21 years ago
They really should call the fudge points "wins against teams from other conferences." Yeah, it's awkward and extraneous (sort of like the bonus points themselves ), but at least it'd be clear.by Robb - Hockey
Re: RPI and RPI & PWR - 21 years ago
So RPI's probability of winning the series should be: 1/18*1/18 + 1/18*17/18*1/18 + 17/18*1/18*1/18 = 0.89%. Must....resist....urge....to....comment....on....already....purchased....Albany....plane....tickets....by Robb - Hockey

Re: Sunday PWR: Big Doin's - 21 years ago
Greg - how do you figure that? If 2 of the top 4 are WCHA, and 2 of the bottom 4 are WCHA, wouldn't the top WCHA teams get non-WCHA bottom teams, leaving us with SCSU or DU? I'm confused....by Robb - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
I could be wrong, but I think the host schools bid for the right to host - they find a suitable rink, rent it out, handle all kinds of details (tickets? concessions? etc), and "sell" those services to the NCAA. Whichever schools come up with the best packages (value-wise) are selected as hosts. Therefore, there's nothing to stop Cornell from bidding on hosting a regional. Obviously,by Robb - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
Heck, yeah! It just would have been nice to face a MAAC/CHA team at a neutral site rather than PC at home....by Robb - Hockey
Re: Maine Loses? Cornell #2 in PWR? - 21 years ago
Yes, but we still win the individual comparison with ME and have the higher RPI, so we're ahead of ME any way you slice it. Nevertheless, we probably still end up as #1 in Providence so that ME/PC don't meet in the first round.by Robb - Hockey
Re: slope day - 21 years ago
Good grief. Are today's youth such sheep that they have to have the university's blessing to have a good time? If the administration wants the slope, let them have it. Chinese students pulled off Tieneman Square, and you can't figure out someplace else to party? This sounds a lot like the difference between organized cheers and general noise at the hockey games......by Robb - Hockey
Re: USCHO.com poll, 2/17 - 21 years ago
The magic square problem from hell.... I'm 99.99% positive that there would be a set of points that could be achieved with two different sets of votes; therefore, the problem is not solveable in general. On the other hand, if all the voters voted exactly the same, then the problem is solveable - so there are specific cases which would be solveable. The question is, how could you tell by lookinby Robb - Hockey

Re: The brake down - 21 years ago
Do you mean in the ECAC standings, PWR, RPI, KRACH, KPWR, or polls? The only team out of the top 7 PWR teams to get a win last night was BC, and they needed OT to do it. At least all the top teams were drinking the same bad water. Let's hope Cornell at least can shake it off for tonight and pound the Crimson. With all the losses last night at the top, our tie with Brown didn't hurt us tby Robb - Hockey
Re: Complete List of All Cornell NCAA Titles - 22 years ago
Not sure what you mean, Dave. Back in my day (90-94), men's and women's fencing were scored and tracked separately. There were three men's events (foil, epee, and sabre) with 9 bouts in each weapon, for a total of 27 bouts. At the time, women only fenced foil with 16 bouts. Many times we would come back from Princeton, Penn, etc, with the women having "won" the meet 10-6 or so and tby Robb - Hockey

Re: Clinching - 22 years ago
I've been working on for determining possibilities (including taking tiebreakers into account - bleah). Unfortunately, I started working on it from the optimistic point of view ("what's the best a certain team can finish", and planned to adapt it later for finding the worst a team could do. Haven't gotten that far yet.... My algorithm tells me that the best we can finish is first! Whby Robb - Hockey
Re: New TBRW Feature: Complete Scoring List - 22 years ago
Is there someplace on TBRW or slack.net that discusses the ECAC tiebreakers, what the order is, what the inconsistencies are, etc? E.g. if two teams are tied for 5th and 6th place, and they are tied head-to-head, do the top-5 criteria become top-4 or top-6? (Yes, I realize that it doesn't matter for record vs. top 5, but it could for goal differential vs. top 5). What if there's a tie for 5thby Robb - Hockey

BRA - you didn't miss Purity because it's too new; you have missed it all these years because Cornell students don't go downtown any more. Purity has been down on Rt. 13 since before my parents attended Cornell ('64 and '65).
