Re: Cornell 0 @ Quinnipiac 0 (postgame thread) - 15 years ago
I didn't think the place was soulless. Sure, it was new, so that obviously prevents it from having had acquired any kind of patina that an old barn would enjoy, but hey, I think it's a terrific rink, and would encourage anyone to go check out a game there when you have a chance. It's a real beaut. And I was also impressed by the Q student section, who showed up wearing mostly the same color, wby HeafDog - Hockey

Re: Coach Schafer's Three Goals - 15 years ago
ebilmes 3. Pack Lynah Rink 3. Looks very good on paper, with Lynah at 98% of capacity for the season, but probably more like 90% when you factor in lackluster student attendance. And as far as that goes, Schafer can't do that all by himself. He first would need a little less incompetence on the part of the Athletic Department in terms of making the games fun for students again. I'm sure thatby HeafDog - Hockey
Re: Coach Schafer's Three Goals - 15 years ago
ebilmesThere's no doubt that Schafer has done great things for Cornell hockey, but maybe we should renew our focus on these goals from 13 years ago. I'm tired of losing to Harvard. Um, how about winning the NCAA? I don't care about Harvard, since it's not a mutual rivalry (i.e., the average member of the Harvard community couldn't give less of a damn about beating Cornell in hockey). Re: THE NYC VIEWING LOCATION - 16 years ago
Other RockeyI called Ship of Fools and they said they would turn some TVs off march madness to the game at 7pm tomorrow. Their address is: 1590 2nd Ave New York, NY 10028 (212) 570-2651 This is second ave inbetween 83rd and 82nd. So is you can't make it to Albany, I will see you there! I'll probably see you there about 8:30. I trust you'll be wearing CU stuff?by HeafDog - Hockey
Re: selection sunday on now..... - 16 years ago
DeltaOne81Like the NCAA couldn't sell twice the tickets they have available anyway. Sure, but the NCAA shouldn't just be about selling tickets to the highest bidder. They should be about making sure that even schools like us get to have fun and participate, even if it's only once every twenty freaking years.by HeafDog - Other Sports
Re: selection sunday on now..... - 16 years ago
Well, so much for driving to DC or to Raleigh. I hate Stanford. Grade inflation up the wazoo. I also think it's lame that we're all the way in freaking Anaheim. Like that's fair. We'll have all of, what, five Cornell fans in attendance? Where are we watching the game in NYC on Thursday? Ship Of Fools, anyone? Can we rent out the middle room, just like always?by HeafDog - Other Sports

BeeeejJacob '06BeeeejCornell wins 71-64, wrapping up the first full-season Ivy sweep in a very, very long time. Not to be nitpicky, but the last one was only in 99-00: Thanks. The last article I saw mentioning it said it hadn't been done since Princeton in 1976-77. Yeah, nice to make it to the game, JEFF.by HeafDog - Other Sports

KeithK According to CBS Sportsline they have canceled next weekend's games. Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa. Hold it just a second there. Is that true? Does this mean no going down to Princeton to see the away game Saturday night?by HeafDog - Other Sports

At this point, I'll put in a plug for the eLynah Cheers Page. If you've got the energy to cheer the entire game, why stick with the same cheer the entire time? Change it up a bit and go for some variety!by HeafDog - Hockey

Re: Hey Band! - 16 years ago
ShardZAs for the "soccer" chant...the band has 50 people in Lynah at each game, all of them are dedicated fans, and some of them are very stubborn towards the old ways. Like all fans, some things they like, and some things they don't. For better or for worse, it is impossible to simply say "get into the chant" and expect the band to automatically be 100% supportive. Re: Soccer Chant - 16 years ago
A-ronI've been to a few US soccer games where we chant this, followed by U-S-A all while jumping. I'm not sure why the jumping happens, but it's a lot of fun. After about three of these, the section switches to the deliberate clap cheer. A lot of baseball stadiums play a drum beat that matches the clap. I'm not sure how to describe the clap other than saying it's 9 total (long long quick quicby HeafDog - Hockey

KeithKSoccer chant? Ew. Sorry I still hate soccer. Keith, I knew you'd say that as soon as this thread started. But I'm with Rich -- whatever gets us loud is worth it, no matter where the chant originated. (Couldn't have said it any better myself, man!) That's why I hope these guys get something started. Re: BU Postgame - 16 years ago
BeeeejWe may very well not have a national championship during our lifetimes, because in addition to a great team, you need the bounces to go your way, too. But I believe that under this leadership, we will legitimately contend for it for two years out of every ten, and for an Ivy to do that is a spectacular achievement. This ain't gonna be the year, but I like what I see coming down the road.by HeafDog - Hockey
Re: BU Postgame - 16 years ago
Nationally, it definitely is not realistic, by any stretch of the imagination. But when will it be? That's what frustrates me. This was an embarrassment. For us to get blown out of the water by a team that's having a sub-par year in their conference makes me think that a national championship may very well not happen during my lifetime. And that blows. Yes, I know it's not happening this yearby HeafDog - Hockey

calgARI '07All I can say is that my life has been ruined because as a kid I sat across from B and they swore a lot. Actually, considering it's a documentary, Chloe07, and if you're set on slicing and dicing it from the perspective of rules, it might not be a bad idea to look at the swearing issue (that is, for example, one rule is, "no swearing in Lynah, or you'll get tossed or your seasonby HeafDog - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
RazzBaronZ I also liked the resurrection of " is a great big sieve" chant over in A on Saturday. It worked pretty well. I haven't heard that one in a looong time. Well, that's because it's really only supposed to be fired up if we've scored five or more. Four is kind of pushing it. And we know how often we tally five or more -- not that often. Hence the rarity.by HeafDog - Hockey
Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
ebilmesHeafDog The younger fans won't know any better if the older fans don't show them the way. You can't blame them for a lack in creativity. I agree with you that we should be doing a more diverse assortment of cheers to set an example for the "newer" fans. Re: Cornell 6 Union 0 postgame (12/2/06) - 17 years ago
ebilmesIt limits your creativity when you know that it will be nearly impossible to get the people around you to join in anything, much less something new. It also limits your creativity when LGR is the only chant people ever start. If I recall correctly, we do have other chants in our repertoire. Re: We want more..... - 17 years ago
It's definitely eight "sieve"s and four IAYFs. No question about it. From western cultures' tendencies towards multiples of four in our music, you just sing things in multiples of four, and it just somehow feels right that way. Try, on the other hand, shouting it seven times, and you'll see what I mean. Feels wierd.by HeafDog - Hockey
