Re: Cornell Hockey mention in NYT - 14 years ago
I heard Moulson and Tavares were at MSG, then I was pretty sure I saw Tavares. I was going to walk up and say "I'm pretty sure you're John Tavares, but have you seen Matt Moulson," because I was more interested in saying congrats and keep up the good work to Moulson!by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: Student Season Ticket Information - 14 years ago
From the ticket office: Dear Cornell grad student, If you are receiving this email, your name is on the grad student season hockey ticket line number list. Since undergraduate students did not purchase all of their allotted tickets, more season tickets are being allocated to grad students. And, since there are still Cornell hockey season tickets available for students in the E/F generalby JDeafv - Hockey
Re: Student Season Ticket Information - Numbers Announced - 14 years ago
Info posted on athletics website, kinda sucks for the grads that the people who didn't get a number before the deadline was extended get to pick first, oh and grads are the only ones with a wait list: Starting line numbers for student blocks have been drawn. The starting line numbers and order of seat selection is as follows: Graduate Students Graduate block: no. 327 picks fiby JDeafv - Hockey

KeithKSo no posts yet about Riley signing a three year deal with Edmonton today. I'm shocked. With a $10.1 M / year deal, exceeding Alex Ovechkin. I've heard he'll donate back to the hockey program and so they'll offer free internet broadcasts next year.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: TBRW Awards - 15 years ago
CowbellGuySo you'd rather vote for the guy who, most of the time, is just being too indifferent to have a positive or negative impact? At least Colin's making an effort, if a bit too exuberant at times. No, I vote for the guy (Riley) who if you take him out of the lineup leaves the biggest hole, because he's on the PP, PK, 4x4, and the top line 5x5.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: TBRW Awards - 15 years ago
CowbellGuy Schafer-Bâby (Leadership and Passion): Colin Greening. Again, this seems like a no-brainer to me. Colin exudes leadership. He's always the one conferencing with the refs, always vocal, always leading by example, and never takes a shift off. Nieuwendyk-Murray (MVP): Colin Greening. 'nuff said. I couldn't vote for Colin for these awards, because of his mental lapses taking lateby JDeafv - Hockey

Career Improvement: Michael Kennedy, he was gawky and awkward as a frosh and now he's a leader of the team. Transcendent Beauty and Skating Prowess: Evan Barlow. The goal against Princeton. Scrappiness and Effort: Brendon Nash - when he hits, he really hits, better than anybody else on the team. Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
Kate and I just did an experiment where we stretched a napkin over two sticks (simulating the crossbar and rear bar) and then by just passing my hand quickly, but closely over the setup the napkin bulges outward.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
jtwcornell91 I see that your alternative explanation involves the puck not actually touching the part of the net that bulged out. You've articulated my hypothesis much better than I did. Thanks.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
jtwcornell91 Right, the replay is two-dimensional so the shot from the end of the rink can't be conclusive. But on the overhead, it looked like it was still on the inside of the post when it passed the crossbar. I agree that the overhead show it went between the pipes, but that doesn't tell you it was below the crossbar, and I doubt the cameras on the end and overhead are synchronized.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
Trotsky I haven't seen the replay -- but it's hard to imagine a straight shot from in front of the net grazing the netting. It would have to have come from below the crossbar, right -- hence a goal? It is possible. All shots on on an arc trajectory. It is possible for a puck to go over the crossbar and hit the rear crossbar and move the net outward.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
Jordan 04 It went under the cross bar and inside the post. There's no way to tell if a puck is actually in the net just because a frame from the front of the net shows a puck "under" the crossbar.by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
Jacob '06There is no physical way with the shots they showed that the puck did not go in the net. Yes there is! Try the napkin experiment!by JDeafv - Hockey
Re: NC$$ games Saturday 3/28/09 - 15 years ago
No way that was a goal! A few things: 1. Pucks don't go threw a net and then ricochet without changing velocity 2. The puck could go over the net and without even touching the net get the net to move (try putting a napkin on your finger and just blow -- what direction does the napkin go?) 3. The puck could be in front of the net from a certain angle and then go over the crossbar andby JDeafv - Hockey

Re: Pink Uniforms for Late February - 15 years ago
Robb monstrosities I think they could have done much better with a few small changes: 1. Put the names on the back 2. Put the numbers on the arms 3. Use a matching shade of pink on the jerseys and socks I don't think the jerseys are all that terrible, but they are not nearly as awesome as the women's jerseys from last year that I saw a few fans wearing in the stands this weekend:by JDeafv - Hockey
