Re: Mercyhurst 5 Cornell 4 - 12 years ago
kaelistus Not a great first game, but there's no reason to panic. We've lost our share of 'cupcake' games to start the season. (Holy Cross for example)Still, Schafer was unhappy with the effort put forth and he makes a fair point. Two goals off faceoffs is a lot. If a pattern emerges then we ought to be concerned. The Journal's wrap up for those who haven't had a chance to read it yet.by css228 - Hockey

ugarte ScrewBU Trotsky ScrewBU Big and slow is no way to go. Cornell's slide into obscurity continues.I would found an institution where obvious troll is obvious. They were in behind our defensemen the entire game. How long did it take them score the tying goal---3 seconds after the faceoff? The D looked like statues on that play. I guess the party line this year is "Isles sucks."by css228 - Hockey
Re: Mercyhurst 5 Cornell 4 - 12 years ago
I think a lot of this game comes back to the fact that this was Mercyhurst's sixth real game whereas its our first. If we played them 2 weeks ago we'd probably have won.by css228 - Hockey
Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
MattS My take on Iles is that because of his flopping style he looks worse than he is a lot of the time. It's tough to accurately judge a goaltender when he plays like that. Now whether he needs to play like that is the question. Is it because of his lack of size and he compensates with his quickness thus he had developed that style? Maybe he would benefit by trying to play a more traditional butby css228 - Hockey

pfibiger Trotsky Philippe Hudon was the only (I think) guy not to dress for either exhibition game. Any word on whether he is injured? I believe both Mihalek and Gotovets didn't dress for either game as well. I think I remember Gotovets playing against Carleton, but my eyes could have fooled me. He definitely didn't play against Guelph.by css228 - Hockey

RichH Trotsky Irony. It's what's for dinner. Then I guess it's appropriate that Grantland: The Website was created by a hack like Bill Simmons. *ducks* This is a summary of a crushingly good commentary. Not exactly [sure} where to put this, since it's not enough to merit a thread of it's own but a Lynah tradition gets a mention in this Grantland article. Even if its not the most positive view on yelling RED during the national anthem its still fun to see a Cornell mention on something directly linked to ESPN's home page. billhoward pfibiger From: Mike Schafer Head coach Mike Schafer ’86 was pleased to get all three goalies playing experience this weekend, but noted, “Andy is our No. 1. We know that as a coaching staff.” Maybe someone should forward the thread to the coaching staff so they have the benefit of our collective insights. They may have been blinded by seeing Iles too often. As Malcolm Gladwell noteby css228 - Hockey

Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
I'll admit that he could be a lot better with his stick handling but we don't need him to be Hextall. Hopefully Schafer will talk to him and he'll make better decisions going forward. That said he does have legitimate weaknesses as a goalie, and absolutely could be a flop. Still I'm not willing to judge him solely based on his performance last night or in a goalie platoon last year where he couldby css228 - Hockey
Re: National Collegiate Hockey Conference - 12 years ago
marty Jim Hyla css228 That was a great game last night. Began watching it with 10 minutes left in the 3rd. Hopefully Quinnipiac decides to go (if one of them has to go wouldn't you prefer to keep RPI?) and we can bring RIT into the conference.Depends how they work out the travel partners. RIT for RPI seems simpler. I am in favor of keeping either RIP or the Deer-ticks dependent on their worth aby css228 - Hockey

Look, I know many athletes here who might have gone somewhere else without the level of aid they received. Sure they got in partially because of their athletics talents, but once they're in they deserve the same chance at aid as everyone else. And a lot of these people would have gone elsewhere because they couldn't afford to otherwise. As a result they're getting a better education. And I know aby css228 - Hockey
