Re: Samaritan Cornell players - 16 years ago
Josh '99I don't really expect Cornell to be able to draw many New England players with all the college choices there already are out in that area, but upstate NY guys (Lee Stempniak, say) might be a good group to be able to recruit. Dartmouth seems to do a pretty good job drawing kids from the Buffalo area (Stempniak and Mike Devine come to mind immediately). Now if only Cornell could have lby mnagowski - Hockey
Re: Union Pregame - 16 years ago
If you break it down further, in the six periods where Cornell played Union this year, there was one period were Cornell outscored Union (1-0), three periods where the two teams tied (2-2), and two periods where Union outscored Cornell (3-0). On the power play, Cornell was 1 of 7, whereas Union was 0 of 6. So, um, it's probably going to be a close series. Not that we didn't know that alreadby mnagowski - Hockey

Re: Spitzer - 16 years ago
KeithKIt's a very god thing that NY can set a higher minimum age for driving than Montana, for both places. It's also a good thing that New York State varies the minimum age for driving by county. I could drive at age 16 in Erie County. Not so on Lawn Guy Land. One would think that if they could vary driving ages within the state, they could also vary things like state income taxes and Medicby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Spitzer - 16 years ago
Jim HylaIt has been true with the Wall Street boom, that has not always been true. You don't have to back too far to remember when upstate had to bail out a bankrupt NYC. These things change over time, and I for one would not want to take too strong a stand one way or another. And hey, maybe with the way the dollar is falling, manufacturing is restarting, and the way Wall Street is imploding, mby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Spitzer - 16 years ago
kroseNot going to speak for metaezra, but IMO for reasons of both budget and general legislative behavior, upstate NY would be a wonderful place to live if Westchester-and-south were its own state. It would be mostly like a bigger Vermont. I'm not certain if Vermont would be the best analogy, as Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, etc. are all pretty urban areas with a lot of problems. What a fall. Admittedly I was already getting quite annoyed with him, but he may have been the State's best shot at changing the way Albany is run. To think I actually had some respect for the guy at one point. Although who knows, maybe it takes an event like this for the politicos to wake up and smell the roses. Combined with rapidly declining revenues from Wall Street, maybe push will reallyby mnagowski - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Hockey players get NCAA's highest scholarships: NYT - 16 years ago
pfm10So how would Army factor into all of this? Every student there gets a free ride (as long as you temporarily forget about the four year commitment, or is it five or more now). That could toy with the numbers a little since everyone on the roster kinda has a "scholarship". Army's 'free rides' wouldn't be averaged into these numbers for athletic scholarships, just as any other acadeby mnagowski - Hockey

I must say, it's a nice way to finish out a season at Lynah. Especially against a team that has provided frustration in recent years. Now if only Topher can get a goal... Union's going to be ready for us, though.by mnagowski - Hockey

KillerFriggin' Devine Devine went to my Upstate New York high school. I could never figure out why Cornell doesn't have more of a stronger recruiting base Upstate. Cornell women's basketball beat Princeton tonight. This, coupled with a Harvard loss to Yale, means that they captured the Ivy Title (or a share thereof with Harvard) for the first time in school history.by mnagowski - Hockey

Re: OT: Verizon Wireless to watch streaming video. - 16 years ago
I think the Cornell Redcast stream is 473 kilobits per second, or around 58 kilobytes a second. So 120 minutes of streaming audio and video would be around 400 - 450 mbs. Assuming you don't do anything else on the Internet, that would give you at least ten streaming events a month. Have you looked into satellite access?by mnagowski - Hockey

ebilmesI show up to Lynah at least 45 minutes before every game, but I have to sit in my assigned seat. The three rows in front of me remain empty until at least midway through the first period, if they fill up at all. While I haven't been to a game at Lynah since Senior Night 2005, from what I can gather I think it's pretty obvious that the lottery system is doing a disservice to long-time fanby mnagowski - Hockey
