Re: lles is not the answer - 12 years ago
css228 Tom Lento Give My Regards Here's what else three straight shutouts will do for you. Andy's numbers after the Dartmouth game: 3.23 GAA, 0.870 SV%. Andy's numbers after Niagara: 2.01 GAA, 0.918 SV%. It's the system. So let me get this straight? When Iles had a .750 save percentage and was struggling, he's nothe answer and the systems not to blame but when he has 200+ shutout minuteby dag14 - Hockey

Catching up on the over-night posts over my second cup of morning coffee. When I got to this Scrivens thread I laughed so hard I spit coffee all over my computer. Thank you. This is what makes eLynah a treasure, in spite of the John Harvards-type rants.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Women vs Syracuse - 12 years ago
That's not fair to the rest of the team. Jillian is an amazing player but we get plenty of scoring from the second line and the third line can hold its own. Everyone will need to step it up on defense, however, since we don't skate 7 defensemen and will be very thin with the top pair gone.by dag14 - Hockey

The SLU game at Akwesasne is a non-league game. We play at SLU on Jan 27. I bet this is a recruiting opportunity in the north country for both teams. While NY girls' hockey does not yet compete with Canadian programs, it is nice to see a chance for more exposure for both programs close to home.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Baseball coach Thoren dies - 13 years ago
Ted Thoren was active in Cornell athletics literally until the day he died, both as a fund-raiser/supporter of baseball and as a member of the Hall of Fame selection committee. I will miss sitting with him at Hoy Field and hearing both his hilarious stories about past players and their "antics" as Ted called them and his astute analysis of coaching decisions and plays taking place duriby dag14 - Other Sports

I seem to recall the same sentiment regarding Ohio State. Before they beat us. I am going to assume that the players and coaching staff won't take any team for granted during the month of May.by dag14 - Other Sports

We need to beat Hartford first. Am I the only one who remembers being scored upon at home during the quarterfinals game by the opponent's goalie on the way to the upset loss????by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse in 2011 - 13 years ago
I think Quint's point is that as a rule, no one speaks up to predict the Tewaaraton winner until at least mid-May. There may be front runners throughout the season but generally the team has to advance pretty far for a player to win the award so nothing is sewed up this early. That is how Pannell is different: he is so far and away the best player in the country that his team could bow out earby dag14 - Other Sports

Re: CU-SU Lacrosse Tonight - 13 years ago
I, too, was shocked and disappointed in the Sun's lack of coverage. While I am a strong supporter of all of Cornell's sports teams, bumping a column and eliminating an atsy rowing picture on the back page would have provdided the column inches necessary to accomodate lacrosse coverage on the back page. And we need "off the grid" -- which I assume serves as Tuesday sports "filler&by dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Cornell Wrestling article in Philly Inquirer - 13 years ago
I can't name names or provide specific GPA information because of privacy issues but I teach and advise at least 4 Varsity wrestlers -- more than one of whom are nationally ranked -- whose grade point averages in a very difficult major exceed 3.5. Two are in the 3.8+ range. And those are the guys whose academic records I can access. I have had several other wrestlers in my classes who have earby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell 2, Harvard 1, Final - 13 years ago
Today was a truly noteworthy day in Cornell Daily Sun history. The WOMEN'S hockey team claimed the back page on Monday, rather than the men's hockey team. Wrestling was also featured, rather than basketball. So we are seeing prime coverage of the winning programs, rather than the historically popular programs. I am not sure what this year's sports coverage editorial policy is but last yearby dag14 - Hockey
Re: Women's Season Stuff - 13 years ago
It is a pleasure to review the uscho women's stats page: No Cornell player leads in the individual statistics because our scoring is so balanced, but the only team stat that does not show Cornell as #1 is team scoring. We are third behind Wisconsin and Mercyhurst. We have the #1 pp and pk; our team has given up an unbelieveable .7 goals a game on average and two of our goaltenders are #1 anby dag14 - Hockey
Women: Cornell 8, Union 0 - 13 years ago
The women dominated Union before a decent crowd at Lynah. Senior Katie Wilson had the shutout in goal; shots were about 35-9. Hat trick for Johnston; otherwise scoring was spread out with 2 assists on almost every goal. Everyone got playing time and the team basically sat on their 8 goal lead through the third period when they easily could have pressured and scored a couple more.by dag14 - Hockey

Re: Cornell 3 St Cloud 4 OT 2010 Florida Classic - 13 years ago
I, too, was disappointed in the attendance but South Florida alums who are not die-hard hockey fans may not venture out to watch an unranked Cornell team play on a Wednesday afternoon. Who knows. Most out-of-town fans made their head-south-for-the-holdays travel plans well in advance of the cold snap so I actually would have expected a larger than average turn out in nasty weather. Women: Cornell 3 St. Lawrence 1 - 13 years ago
Another solid effort this afternoon by the Cornell women's team. Shots were 32 - 18; SLU's only goal was over Mazzotta's shoulder through a screen. May have been deflected but she definitely never saw the puck. While SLU hustled, the talent difference was obvious. Re: Women: Cornell 6 Dartmouth 1 - 13 years ago
In spite of what the statistics might say , Cornell dominated this game. The talent difference was clear and the women hustled hard from start to finish. Dartmouth took a lot of penalties because they couldn't keep up with our players which helped us control the game. Missing Johnston and Jenner both games this weekend , the balance of the team played very well together.by dag14 - Hockey
