Re: Clarkson excessive penalties - 20 years ago
As the saying goes (I think Rick Reilly did a whole SI column last fall), My team is agressive and hard-hitting. Your team takes cheap shots. My guy's big and takes advantage of his size, within the rules. Your guy's a goon. Etcetera. If you were looking for a pattern, you'd have to go back more than a couple years. eLynah: good show - 20 years ago
eLynah has been a great leisure time pursuit these past few months. An incredible time sink, too, and probably responsible for the falloff in my personal productivity recently. Thank you to everyone who makes eLynah tick. Thanks to the ticket forum readers who helped me scrounge tickets for the Princeton / Yale weekend so I could bring my boys to see Cornell play at home. It's tough for freedom and responsibility to coexist in a 3836-seat arena. It's like trying to segment a swimming pool into peeing and no-peeing sections. Is there a point where fans can go too far? From applauding your team to booing the opponent to making rude remarks to making boorish hand signs to making obscene printed signs and adding gestures? This is going to mess up McKee's second place in goals against. (Seems as if we're more worried about LeNeveu's record being undone by Jim Howard than the current goalie being No. 2 in the nation in goals-against.)by billhoward - Hockey

Re: Around the Rest of Hockey This Weekend - 20 years ago
Imagine Cornell meeting Maine in the playoffs and having the chance to push Howard's GAA average up above 1.20. My quick calculation says if Howard gives up 2 goals in his next start, that's 21 goals allowed in 1032:19 (approx 17.2 games) or 1.22GA. 3GA would push him to 1.28. Well, we still have most of Marinaro's records intact, the yards-per-game ones. Obviously not total yardage, nowby billhoward - Hockey

Too bad the story didn't explain the "one incident with the goaltender" in enough detail for most readers to understand McKee got his mask knocked off by Clarkson. The story read, >>> The game started to get chippy in the second period as well, as frustration crept in for the Golden Knights and Cornell tried to stand up to it. But it never got completely out of hand. >&by billhoward - Hockey

There is no perfect Personal Video Recorder yet. Tivo is best but the new Replay 5500 series is not much different. You have to pay a monthly service fee of $10 or a lifetime fee of $300 and it's lifetime of that unit, not your lifetime. If the unit goes belly up after the warranty, you're hosed. Re: No Cornell on TV - 20 years ago
If you remember last year's ECACs and NCAAs on TV, you remember how precious few advertisers there were. You saw the same commercial for one bank and one beer, I think it was, maybe 20 times. That underscored how hard it was to find sponsors. Maybe the profile of CSTV will help lift up the minor majors such as hockey, lacrosse, maybe wrestling. Problem is, part of the year you need CSTV on foby billhoward - Hockey
Re: Cornell 16th in PWR after Fri night - 20 years ago
To host an NCAA regional means the school agrees to be the sponsor and do some of the background donkey-work. It does not mean you get to host it in your home rink. Thus Cornell could as easily be host of a regional in Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, or Albany as could Canisus or RPI. Problem with Cornell playing in the ECAC is we have the easiest schedule year in, year out because Cornell doesn't don't have to play Cornell. The ECAC as a group did not do a lot against non-ECAC teams.
