Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Nieuwy 500 Countdown: 1!!!!! - 21 years ago
Brian did play for Trail. He is now with the Florida Everblades; he was traded in November from the Trenton Titans for cash. I think he still splits time with the Titans but I don't know for sure. All the '02 graduates were profiled in the latest edition of the Cornell Alumni Magazine. Edit: Let it be noted that I don't think he is playing anywhere anymore. It's L-E-N-E-V-E-U. Sorry, but that irks me. IF he's so good, spell his damn name right. Don't mean to be the grammar naziby Erica - Hockey

For anyone else who happens to be in Ithaca this early... "The Ithaca community is invited to join the Cornell men's hockey team for an evening of bowling and pizza on Friday, Jan. 10, from 7-9 p.m. at the Helen Newman Lanes on the Cornell campus. Admission to this event, sponsored by the Cornell Hockey Association, is free."by Erica - Hockey
Re: hockey fund raiser - 21 years ago
Unfortunately, Melissa, I don't think this is the case. When I was a junior, I was personal friends with most of the players and I asked one of them what he thought of a certain issue that was floating around. I asked him as a friend, because I know he didn't want to get involved. While he did offer his opinion, what he told me was that the players and especially Coach try not to get involved witby Erica - Hockey

Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes and Harvard? - 21 years ago
They aren't going to do anything. What can they do? It's more of like a word type of contract. I applied early decision, however, I had to wait for my aid package. Since I had also applied to UMich on a rolling admissions type of basis, I knew I had already been accepted to that school. But I was still planning on going to Cornell had I been able to pay. I also still went ahead and applied to thby Erica - Hockey

Re: [Semi-OT] Dartmouth Cuts Swimming and Diving to save $200k - 21 years ago
I was trying to get the point across that it was a lame excuse, and I didn't think it was the real reason. It is clear that they have to come up with something that sounds good because they know they are going to have dissidents.by Erica - Hockey
Re: [Semi-OT] Dartmouth Cuts Swimming and Diving to save $200k - 21 years ago
Hey Rich, I see what you're saying, but according to the Globe article, the reason they had to cut the teams was because, in order to remain competitive, they would have had to build a $25 million dollar swimming pool. That would take a whopping amount of alumni interest and donations if the university couldn't fund it. Other than that, I think the equipment is pretty low-maintenance: swimsuits,by Erica - Hockey

Re: 4-10-3 Grrrrrr... - 21 years ago
Much like the Clarkson Class of '96 who had one more game to become the first class (perhaps ever) to go undefeated vs. SLU. They lost. And, might I say, much like the current crop of Dartmouth seniors... BTW, if they're the first class to go undefeated against SLU, aren't they also the first class ever? Re: Final HockeyCam Letter - 21 years ago
It sounds ok, but it seems like it would be way too long to print as an editorial column. I would say chop out a few paragraphs, and you could still get your point across, probably even a little more effectively. I only skimmed it, but it also seems as if the student body as a whole would be uninterested in the whole issue, as the ones that care about hockey are probably going to the games, as weby Erica - Hockey

Re: 'new' - 21 years ago
all "mark all read" does is exactly that. It marks everything as if it's been read already, in which case all the new tags disappear. I was always bewildered by that. It does that to me even if I haven't read them all. Weird...by Erica - Hockey
'new' - 21 years ago
What happened to the red "new" signs next to the topics with new posts in the "show topics" page? It only appears when you first download the page. Once you go back to the show topics page after having left it once, the new tags are no longer there. I am sad. I liked that because it indicated to me which topics had new posts. I preferred that over the show new posts button. Caby Erica - Hockey
Re: [OT] Huh? - 21 years ago
Oh please, don't kid yourself. The game between Cornell and Penn is no more of a rivalry than any other Cornell game. Pendergast said himself that he considers all the league games rivalries, it's just that they like to beat Penn and end the season on a high note. True, among the band members it is a rivalry, but the football players don't get up for that game any more than the others (if they gby Erica - Hockey
Harvard/Dartmouth - 21 years ago
After listening to the Harvard/Dartmouth game in its entirety, and the Harvard/UVM 1st period, these are some conclusions I have come up with. 1. The Harvard play-by-play kid is really bad. It's not that he's clueless-bad, but he was talking so fast that he just kept saying the wrong thing or garbling his words. Kinda annoying. And the only ECAC updates he gave were end-of-first-period scores,by Erica - Hockey

Re: hahvahd's asst. coach - 21 years ago
No No No, I don't care who our coaches are. However, I have no idea why a former Cornellian would want to coach such a subpar team as Harvard. Maybe he likes a challenge...by Erica - Hockey
hahvahd's asst. coach - 21 years ago
Pardon me for being out of the loop, but I just read that one of Hahvahd's three asst. coaches was a 1985 graduate of Cornell, a goalie on the team. Grrrr... you'd think Schafer would have picked him up first.by Erica - Hockey

Re: copyrights - 21 years ago
When I was in marching band, we used to get shirts every year, with all the schools' names on the back, and sometimes the front, depending on the design. Usually, these names were referred to in a disparaging way, or at least the spellings. How did they manage to get permission to do that? Did they have some sort of agreement with the Athletic Dept. that they could make T-shirts every year?by Erica - Hockey
