sorry about that link, hit the dropdown to select the archives, go to "Zajac catches eye of scouts" and then it's the 2nd of the two articles on that page.by pfibiger - Hockey

an interesting article about the cornell-nanaimo pipeline:by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: Feb 2004 - 20 years ago
where did you see that Wieckowski had been cut from the Ice Dogs..last I heard he was removed from the roster and put on the 30-day IR cause he broke his arm. Same reason he didn't play in the echl all-star game.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Prospect Updates - 20 years ago
I was poking through the Alberni Bulldogs site, and found this photo: which appears to be incoming d-man Doug Krantz putting a hit on incoming forward Tyler Mugford during an Alberni-Nanaimo game.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: 1970 Ithaca Journal Cartoon - 20 years ago
It involves every player on the cornell team surrounding the clarkson net, pounding the goalie with shots..and Cropper sitting behind the cornell net, ice fishing. i think that's the gist of it, at least.by pfibiger - Hockey

Re: What the hell is going on? - 20 years ago
I still think there are going to be more recruits announced before the year is over. Judging by the lack of faith Schafer has exhibited in Chabot, I would be surprised if another goaltender isn't brought in..and with Stachurski quitting the team, and Wallace graduating..there's room for at least one more D-man, perhaps two?by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: What the hell is going on? - 20 years ago
I'd say that it has to do with us having a pretty young team and with having graduated a huge percentage of last year's total point production..but it seems like our more recent slide has to do with what Schafer talked about in the uscho game recap. It sounds like our team is in pretty rough shape, injury-wise. Even with our meager lineup last night, at least one of the ten forwards and 2 of theby pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Mid-Season Central Scouting Bureau Rankings - 20 years ago
I don't know whether to put this under 'prospect updates' or here, but I think it fits here as well as anywhere. Here's an article about the BCHL all-star game, and below is the relevant part about Sawada: ----------- With Jones already spoken for, Cochrane, Canucks' chief scout Ron Delorme and other eagle eyes are turning to the draft potential of 2004 and recruits such as right winger Ray Sby pfibiger - Hockey

Chloe, Check out the various "cornell alumni in the pros" threads..there are updates on pretty much everyone who's playing any kind of pro hockey. Sam's playing for Atlantic City in the ECHL.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Prospect Updates - 20 years ago
A piece about Sawada and Mugford heading to Cornell from Nanaimo: Also this was posted to the BCHL message board. Apparently Sawada is attracting a lot of attention from NHL scouts (he was listed on the central scouting "players to watch" but there are no BCHL players in the "preliminary rankings". viewing CU @ Harvard in Los Angeles - 20 years ago
I know it's late, and the Cornell Club of LA is holding a tape-delayed viewing on Sunday..but I want to listen to the Brown game, and I'm sure i'll hear the CU-Harvard score. So I'm going to go watch the game at Yankee Doodles on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, if anyone's interested in joining me. Philby pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Prospect Updates - 20 years ago
from here: "6'3", 200 lb. Jon Marshall, an '86 from the Boston Junior Bruins, is big and every now and then does something to make you take note. However, he needs to produce offense more consistently. Experience and hard work could get him there. Marshall is a top student and Harvard and Cornell are both reportedly interested." that's from USHR news from August (for more receby pfibiger - Hockey

Re: Prospect Updates - 20 years ago
interesting article on Ray Sawada: Excerpts from the article: His thunderous hits not only crunch the opposition into the boards, but have the fans and his own teammates cringing as well. "Very few games go by that a member of the opposition doesn't feel Ray's punishment," says Nanaimo coach Bill Bestwick. "I'm sure the fans can feel them. I know we feel them on the bench."by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Prospect Updates - 20 years ago
There was also talk here this summer that Matt McKeown was headed to Nanaimo before some trade happened, and he left that league to play for his hometown team (Niagara Falls) in a different league. Since he had been recruited well before that happened, it does seem like the street is two-ways and it could be that Cornell recruiters "sent" McKee to Nanaimo, much like McKeown.by pfibiger - Hockey

In the last couple of days, Murray picked up his first goal and a few assists with the Barons. He's been taking some penalties, and apparently, hitting like a mack truck. People on hockeysfuture who are going to Barons games are impressed with his level of play.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: 2003-04 NHL Central Scouting "Preliminary Ranking" - US Colleges - Nov. '03 - 20 years ago
Looks like there are no BCHL players on that list. Ray Sawada made the "players to watch" list as one of 3 "A" players from that league. I have to imagine that the canadian junior players will be added to that list at some point.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: OT-BU vs Harvard on Fox Sports - 20 years ago
Harvard's now up 2-1. They scored a PP and then even strength goal within maybe 2 minutes.by pfibiger - Hockey

Topher Scott -- Chicago Steel LPH/USHL Offensive Player of the Week (November 10, 2003) Scott (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), Chicago's captain, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after notching five points (4G, 1A) in three games and extending his goal- scoring streak to four games. Honorable mention goes to Sean Muncy (Cedar Rapids), Todd McIlrath (Danville), Jimmy Kilpatrick (Green Bay) and Joby pfibiger - Hockey

Re: ON-TOPIC Video/Audio Thread - 20 years ago
What's frustrating is that if I want video, but I also want to be able to get the away games _at all_, I've got to shell out $6.95/month for the real networks sports pass plus $60/season for i2sports, rendering the real networks content useless for all home games. There should absolutely be some sort of less expensive combined setup.by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: Murray Sent Down - 20 years ago
LeNeveu was sent down to Springfield today. Don't really understand why they didn't do that earlier, it seemed pretty clear he wasn't going to be #1 or #2 on the Coyotes depth chart this year. Looks like Bâby is still in Atlanta, he's played 2:05 against the Hurricanes so far this morning:by pfibiger - Hockey

Looks like today Underhill was cut from the Kings training camp, and was assigned to the Manchester Monarchs. Seems like a step up from the Pee Dee Pride to me ..by pfibiger - Hockey
Re: CHDB updated for 2004 - 20 years ago
Age, there's a display bug where if a player has 2002-2003 stats, they're displayed for their 03-04 stats as well (games played and PIM seem ok, this only affects goals/assists/points). Philby pfibiger - Hockey

Re: Rookie Tournament at El Segundo - 20 years ago
Ok, in the end, Phoenix beat LA 3-1. Underhill started for LA, and gave up 2 goals and the 3rd was an empty netter. It sounds like he still played pretty well, hopefully well enough over the tourney to get an offer from the monarchs or their ECHL team. Onto the SJ-Anaheim game.
