Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Alumni in the Pros - February 2009 - 15 years ago
NESN announcers gave Bitz a lot of credit for starting the forecheck which caused a turnover to intiate the play in the first place.by cth95 - Hockey

I just turned on my computer. In case someone didn't notice, April Fool's is still a couple of months away. Would someone please post the real game thread?by cth95 - Hockey
ESPN Heckling Article - 15 years ago
I thought this was interesting. It gives some pretty good general rules as well as input from players of various sports as to what actually gets in their head. We will probably agree with most of these; but, based on the lengthy "Notice to Ticket Holders" thread, there will be some discussion about Rule #4.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Interesting Goalie Pad Concept - 15 years ago
As a goalie, I can assure you that I absolutely need to see the puck. It can easily get lost against my pads or in among a bunch of sticks and skates. If I can't see the puck I stay still so I don't accidentally knock it in. Unfortunately for me, if it is still loose and I don't realize it, an opposing player will often see the puck and poke it by me. If you watch most college and pro teamsby cth95 - Other Sports
Re: Interesting Goalie Pad Concept - 15 years ago
From what I have read in the past and from playing some myself, I think white pads do give a more ambiguous target to shoot around. Darker pads provide the shooter with easily defined lines. This story takes the concept a step farther by actually making the white pads look like the net. I am confident that white is a little trickier for shooters, I just don't know if it makes enough differenceby cth95 - Other Sports

imafrshmnNo "asshole," no "fuck," no big deal. Thank you. Imafrshmn has the best post and attitude of this entire thread.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
nyc94cth95From what I heard on TV Tuesday, it didn't sound like anyone had trouble expressing their enthusiasm for Obama without swearing. Sounded like Bush was receiving the verbal treatment and hand gestures we reserve for our favorite opponents. Not sure your analogy is spot on. You are probably right. I didn't hear any profanity, but I did see some pretty poor responses. At least ourby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
fatchance72 But you're missing the point, cth95. My point was that athletics holds significant power over the band, whether we care to admit it or not. In this situation, athletics is choosing to use the band as a tool to help cut down on profanity at Lynah. What athletics doesn't realize is that the majority of the potty-mouthed students at the games are going to curse regardless of whether theby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Important message to ice hockey ticket holders - 15 years ago
What's the big deal about having to say "Rough 'em up?" I have been shouting that at games for years. I often still think "F 'em up" in my head while I am saying it. There is no reason to say "F 'em up" other than to satisfy your own ego that you are going against the "establishment". Hockey games are loud and energetic, but they are still family eventsby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros, January 2009 - 15 years ago
Bitz was interviewed in the NESN post game show. He had a big cut on his lip, and they joked about him not getting the memo to go to make up before the interview after taking a high stick during the game. Unfortunately, no Cornell mentions. The questions were aimed at his transition from Providence to Boston and how the veterans had helped him as well as about the current state of the Bruinsby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 RPI 0 Postgame - 15 years ago
I really appreciated the Snickers. Jim, when I didn't see you there Friday, I thought it was going to be my first game in recent memory without the opportunity. I'm not sure who you are, "2nd String Jim", but thanks for taking over.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Cornell 3 RPI 0 Postgame - 15 years ago
This weekend, the style of play reminded me much more of the '03, '05, and '06 teams than I saw each of the last two years. Cornell bent a few times, but they never really broke. Despite some good possessions by both Union and RPI in the Cornell zone, I didn't see either team get many clean looks at Scrivens. In '07 and '08, it seemed like we saw more odd-man rushes and breakaways in any givenby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Union & RPI Roll Call - 15 years ago
I'll be at both games with a buddy of mine. We are going to ski at Pico near Killington, VT on Saturday, so we are going to split the difference and stay in Glens Falls. If anyone wants to join us for a ski day and you are at least comfortable on blue trails feel free to PM me. I'm sure we could manage to hang around after either (or both) game(s) for a couple of rounds.by cth95 - Hockey

Re: Lynah East - 15 years ago
BMacThe sad thing is that even in the NBA, where you see the player's faces, the attempt to turn the circus crap down a notch has had mixed results. Mark Cuban tried turning off music during games and it didn't work too well. On the other hand, the Lakers' return to using focused lighting on the court, just like ol' days, was a winner (if you can read their awful purple website). Cool picsby cth95 - Hockey

Josh '99I have that bear-and-C bobblehead; they sell it at the Campus Store. Why does the bear have a shiner? That certainly doesn't make us look very tough.by cth95 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Really Old Article - 15 years ago
Great article. I rowed for the Freshman Lightweights in '90-'91 and loved it. Unfortunately, I had to work for the rest of my duration on the hill,so I couldn't keep it up. Some of my teammates were in the undefeated varsity boat in '92. Not that I would have been in that boat by any means, but it would have been pretty cool to be a part of the team. Rowing is a great sport which requiresby cth95 - Other Sports
Re: Coach Schafer's Three Goals - 16 years ago
ursusminorAccording to hockeydb, Schafer had a total of 10 goals in his four years playing for Cornell. Did one of them beat Harvard?by cth95 - Hockey
Conn Smythe Winners - 16 years ago
Here is a link on SI.com to some notable Conn Smythe winners. Two Cornellians are on the list of 20 total. I would be curious to know how many other college players made the list, let alone more than one from the same college. Gee, I wonder if anyone can guess which two Cornellians made it.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - April 2008 - 16 years ago
amerks127Reports are circulating that in an effort to put more grit on the blueline for game 4, Guy Carbonneau might put O'Byrne in the lineup for his NHL playoff debut. Nothing confirmed though. The hosts, analysts, and callers on the Team990 out of Montreal throughout the day and almost without exception were hoping to see O'Byrne in the line up. He was mentioned as a needed change for someby cth95 - Hockey

Re: No UVM in Near Future - 16 years ago
My celebrity waiter at a fund raiser night in Burlington last week was Kevin Sneddon, the UVM coach. I congratulated him on his Coach of the Year award as well as his previous success making Union respectable. Sneddon was a great guy and really friendly. When I asked him when we will get to see Cornell play UVM again, Sneddon said he really respects our program and would love to set that uby cth95 - Hockey
Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
Well, that was certainly better than having to stay at home. This should be a great experience for all of the players. Even though it was against the Stanford bench, the team did start to settle down in the second half. Maybe they can keep the deficit to only 15 next year. Great season, guys.by cth95 - Other Sports
Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
cth95Stanford is playing mostly bench players now, so maybe the final score will look at least a little bit respectable. Of course "bench players" is a relative term. The Stanford bench has nearly equaled Cornell's point total.by cth95 - Other Sports
Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
metaezraIs the only way to dissect a major team like this a Princeton offense? It would have been nice to see a couple of more threes go down in the first half... I think Cornell could have hit a few in the first half, but it would have taken a much calmer approach. If they can get back next year, maybe having this game under their belts will take away some of the nervous edge that shoby cth95 - Other Sports

Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
ugarteThe second half isn't any better. I feel like I'm watching a preview of the women's game against UConn, but with more dunking. So far, it's worse than the 1st half. I was thinking it looks like a lot of high school girls games in which one team can score at will and the other can even get to the basket.by cth95 - Other Sports
Re: Tipoff Time? - 16 years ago
Cornell is facing much more pressure than they are used to. Unfortunately, they are not handling it well at all. Many of their shots are very rushed as a couple of other people have mentioned. They have had a few good looks, but they are playing so tightly that they are throwing up bricks even when they have had good chances.by cth95 - Other Sports
Re: C.U. In Albany!!!! a.k.a. Albany Roll Call - 16 years ago
Unfortunately, I can't make the Saturday games, but I will be there with my fiancee for the Harvard game. I called at 10 this morning and got the last two seats together in Section 119. We have Row P, 4 and 5. There was only one other seat in that section when I called.by cth95 - Hockey
