Cornell in "pay-as-you-go mode" - 10 years ago
Interesting Bloomberg article on how Cornell is piling up debt to pay for the New York tech campus and other expansion. Debt reportedly is just under $2 billion.by Weder - John Spencer Is Dead

margolism Why would he get to build up his legs and body more in college vs. the OHL? Sounds like education is more a priority for his family than for himself. The official spin is that college teams spend more time on practice and conditioning than CHL teams do.by Weder - Hockey

KeithK Josh '99 Jim Hyla Let's start this off with some good news. Maybe this is one reason we like being in the ECAC. Half of the national men's and women's teams that scored over 990 on the NCAA APR rankings were from the ECAC. I might as well put up CU's post on this and the NCAA press release. USCHO has a nice interactive table.Good to see that so many of the teams scoring above 990 werby Weder - Hockey
Re: Hopkins looking for a conference - RIP Ivy doormats? - 10 years ago
billhoward Assuming it came to pass that for hockey, lacrosse, and what else (wrestling ?) the Ivy top schools joined with another league. The league's perennial non-performers might decide to chuck a sport here and there. The Ivy League for sports would implode. How many other sports exist where a school other than Cornell is dominant every year: fencing (I had to check that this was an NCAAby Weder - Other Sports

Scersk '97 Jim Hyla ursusminor Any truth to this? I heard through the grapevine that CORNELL was or is talking to the B1G about joining for select sports like hockey, lacrosse etc. There probably is truth that he heard it through the grapevine. The only question is whether it had already been made into wine. Not to add the ring of truth to what, in its current form, is just a ridiculous ruby Weder - Other Sports

Trotsky Towerroad Trotsky Objective does not mean "oriented towards the object." It means "corresponding to observed fact." An objective criterion could be irrelevant to the object, and thus stupid or irrational, but it would still be objective. Re: Red Cast Really Sucks - 11 years ago
The athletic department has been sending bits of information about the new service today via Twitter. Of note, it seems that they are planning significant equipment upgrades at Lynah, Schoellkopf and the wrestling center. Let's hope that this turns out to be true: Will the investment in new equipment make a big difference here at Cornell? You bet it will. Particularly in the reliability of thby Weder - Hockey

The Ivy League is launching an online network in August. Each school will have its own channel, and it looks like the schools will set their own subscription prices. The service will be run by NeuLion, which in my experience does a really nice job with streaming content.by Weder - Hockey

ugarte jkahn ugarte Bahnstorm Swampy ugarte A team that doesn't have much blocking his path, anyway. Except there would be 2 Cornell alums on the NHL team. When has that happened before? Murray and Vesce in 2009 with the Sharks as well. Iggulden played one game for the Sharks in 2008 and Murray played 62, so they might have been on the ice together in the NHL too. Jim Hyla Rita Thomas Larson Keep dreaming. Schedule for next season likely already completely done, contracts signed and everything. Things like this generally have to be worked out long in advance. Maybe we can make that "California Dreaming". OUtdoor game at Dodger Stadium in February? Did hell actually freeze over when Yale won on Saturday night, thus making this possible? Whby Weder - Hockey

Pippy leaves women's team - 11 years ago
Ithaca Journal's Will Cleveland reports on Twitter that Katelyn Pippy has left the team to focus on school and her acting career. He says he'll have a feature in tomorrow's paper. Wonder if this was planned with the team given that there was a goalie listed in the next recruiting class fairly early on. Best of luck to Katelyn, and I wonder if the team has another anthem singer available. Edit:by Weder - Hockey

KeithK BearLover Jim Hyla BearLover I am more disappointed in this year's season than almost anybody on this forum. I would rather watch exciting offensive hockey than defensive hockey. nyc94 Trotsky WederIf Harvard is indeed skewing its AI numbers to benefit men's basketball, it will be interesting to see which other teams there take the hit. That was a heck of a ride the last month of the season. This senior class accomplished a lot and will be missed a lot. Don't know if it's too early to look ahead, but next season's roster could look very different depending on how far certain players make it in the Olympic tryouts.by Weder - Hockey

Jordan 04 Ben Jordan 04 Ben Not really, but even if we accept this premise, it would be wiser to prepare for the higher likelihood of Q thrashing us 8-0 over two games than thinking about AC.
