Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: NC$$_ Women v. Mercyhurst - 11 years ago
Time for Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. EDIT: Oops, think the NCAA.com free stream is just for the Frozen Four. But I believe NCAA tournament games are supposed to be streamed free, so the Redcast feed should be open to all.by Weder - Hockey

Jim Hyla Ben Rita Hey, this deserves its own thread. From the ECAC Harvard and Clarkson are in as well. Hockey East sends BU and BC. The only 2 western teams Minnesota and N.Dakota meet in the quarterfinals. Go NDAK Go. North Dakota is 10th in Pairwise, behind Wisconsin...how did they get in ahead of the Badgers? They beat them in WCHA Tourney. North Dakota has a much higher RPI than Wiby Weder - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Ben dag14 Ah, these women are students? Playing Sat/Sun means they can miss fewer classes? Nah, there must be some other reason for the schedule Then why do they normally play Friday night/Saturday afternoon? The ideal combination for minimizing missed classes would be Saturday night/Sunday afternoon (which I believe is the HE schedule). And if that were the case, it still doesn't explain why Mby Weder - Hockey

jeff '84 TimV The picture also captures a team tradition: the scoreboard in the background shows 21-10. During practices they keep those numbers up to memorialize #21 George Boiardi and #10 Eamon McEneaney and the ethic those two characterized. Thanks for the explanation, Tim! Also nice that the uniform kit they're showing off has Paul Schimoler's No. 40 jersey.by Weder - Other Sports
Re: Next Year's Finish (Poll) - 11 years ago
Tom Lento underskill MattS underskill but if there's some behind the scenes stuff going on, I wouldn't be shocked if we see some early departures either next year (Ferlin, Lowry, etc.) I have wondered about this also. I think there are two ways to look at it strictly from a hockey standpoint... First, nobody has shown this season that they are able to consistently compete at a high level thus mby Weder - Hockey

CUontheslopes ugarte billhoward There's the ribbon twirling gymnastics event that remains. The sport that will live forever is women's beach volleyball. Rythmic gymnastics is part of the larger umbrella of "gymnastics" - it isn't up for debate. And, honestly, it is impressive as shit to watch but for the fact that the girls are so young that it feels creepy. It's boring as hell to watby Weder - Other Sports

css228 Towerroad Trotsky We are not "tournament fodder." During Schafer's tenure we are 8-9 in the NCAAs. The rest of the current conference membership is 7-27 over that span. Let me be clear what I mean by Tournament Fodder. Tournament fodder is a team that when they make the tournament plays in the regionals and then goes home. That is us for better and worse. Ben Weder The bench has been getting shorter the past several games. From what I've seen, a couple of injured players could be out for some time, but has anyone heard anything about players returning this week? It's the same three players who have been out since the winter break: Brown, Zorn, and Murray. Pittens wasn't listed in the box scores for the Brown and Yale games, and I wasn't paying cby Weder - Hockey

Chris '03 Are they giving you a twitter jersey for your efforts? That's interesting, because the men's basketball team at Akron had a similar idea rejected by the NCAA.by Weder - Hockey

Re: Red Cast improving (don't blink, you'll miss it) - 11 years ago
Rita Trotsky I didn't have any video freezes. There are still those mysterious moments when Jason drops the mic and stalks off stage. And we didn't get the commericals during the Brown game. I had a friend visiting and was streaming the audio and she commented on the periodic spots of dead air and wondered if I needed to refresh the browswer. She didn't mind having dinner with Cornell hockeyby Weder - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
dag14 The free video feed from Yale, complete with video replays, was better than any paid RedCast product. From the broadcast announcers comments, I am guessing it is a student enterprise, at least in part. Since CU is shacking up with Google in NYC for the moment, maybe someone can go down the hall and get a similar YouTube setup for us?by Weder - Hockey

Ben ithacat mattj711 Weder So the recruiting thread on USCHO lists four forwards and a goalie as committed for next season. I assume that there will be at least two defensemen coming in as well. So that seems like a large class given therOe are three seniors on this season's roster. Can I assume that the expectation is that Jenner and possibly others will be out for the Olympics? ftyuv I have a few friends who grew up in Ithaca and went to Cornell. A couple of them even used to post here, though I'm not sure if they're now lurkers or just infrequent visitors. I'd be interested to know how the reduced tuition benefit for CU employees has affected the number of IHS graduates who enroll. There were easily 30 or 40 from my IHS class who went to Cornell, but it's a much easiby Weder - Hockey

Ben Weder Or could it just have been that one of the backup goalies was going to start against Colgate regardless? Possible, but I doubt it. I don't recall Derraugh ever doing that before. My recollection was that Derraugh's definitely done that against weaker opponents. Anyway, if Slebodnick is not 100% yet, not a bad weekend for her to sit out.by Weder - Hockey

Trotsky Getting out-muscled and, worse, out-positioned and, worst of all, out-hustled at Q was ugly. I'm sure it did not pass without comment from the coaching staff.
