Re: Alumni in the Pros - December 2013 - 10 years ago
margolism Hopefully the coach will put him in another few games. Been Jones the last two starts. I read that the Kings coach wasn't happy with some of the things Ben was doing. (Like only losing one game, multiple shutouts, leading NHL in key statistics, even getting an assist on a goal.) Come one Ben, step it up! Hard to tell with Darryl Sutter, but it's looking like Jones will start tonigby Weder - Hockey

2014 schedule is out. Virginia and Syracuse are the big names of the nonconference opponents, but CU will play at Michigan as well. Scrimmages are against D-III schools (RIT and Cortland State) and the Iroquois Nationals.by Weder - Other Sports

Jordan 04 RatushnyFan ACM David LeNeveu resurfaces. (But not as a Zamboni driver.)I have to believe that the reference to his 2.70 GAA at Cornell is incorrect. Per weekend, maybe? Cornell lists his career GAA as 1.29.by Weder - Hockey

Re: Momentum for Brown & Yale - 10 years ago
redice I believe there was a slight rule change relative to the goal judges. But do not recall the specifics. Of course, the referees have always had the ultimate say. But, there was some subtle change. Can someone help me here? NCAA.org Additionally, goal judges are no longer required for NCAA games and will only be recommended.by Weder - Hockey

Re: The End of Ivy Hockey Competitiveness? - 10 years ago
Trotsky Great now the thread has both "manifesto" and "ammonium nitrate" in it. Hello, NSA... > Remove the ban on post-season football. It's unnecessary in the age of the Championship Subdivision. I'm sure this has come up before, but would this have ever mattered? Has there ever been an Ivy that would make the FCS playoffs? Or are there conference auto bids? Eby Weder - Hockey

Swampy As for he sociological-technological determinist explanations for fan apathy, what's the atmosphere like these days at Cameron Indoor? Not as good as it used to be. Declining student attendance/enthusiasm is a problem at all levels of college athletics. Even Nick Saban is shaking things up at Alabama.by Weder - Hockey

Re: Women 2013-14 - 10 years ago
Jim Hyla Trotsky marty Jim Hyla This is my first look at the new women's box score. Check it out, it's wonderful. Will the men do the same? Not sure what the question is here but if you mean beat up on Clarkson we can hope. The number 12 ECAC preseason pick Knights are now 5-1-1.He means will we have great box scores (exhaustive, clean, useful) for the men, too. He's right -- that box score iby Weder - Hockey
Re: Women 2013-14 - 10 years ago
RichH Jim Hyla Cornell 6-3, I only saw bits and pieces, but we looked better individually and Clarkson better as a team. I only got to see the last 15 minutes, and we really did survive a great amount of Clarkson pressure and grade-A opportunities. Slobo earned the W (now CU's career Win leader), and we got a couple opportunistic goals near the end to seal it after Clarkson got into penalty troby Weder - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Jim Hyla David Harding ScrewBUHarvardtoo But being that many of you have been Cornell hockey fans for over a decade, ... A few of us have been following Cornell hockey since the 1950's, so we have a slightly different perspective. My undergraduate years were late 60's and early 70's, but I had grown up in Ithaca. RichH Trotsky WederNot playing recorded music. This is HUGE. Nothing destroys the fan experience more than piped-in music. Nor is Tradition a sure fire defense against it: Notre Dame football just succumbed after a hard fight against it, and I can imagine some moron fresh out of business school thinking it was just the thing to make Lynah more enticing to the vampire squid of advertisers. Not playing recorded music. The promotional announcements are relatively limited, too. Though I suppose those aren't really Lynah Faithful traditions but rink management decisions.by Weder - Hockey
Re: Women 2013-14 - 10 years ago
Pretty strong 6-2 win against Northeastern today. Cornell came out flying and weathered a bit of a lapse late first period/early second period. I'm intrigued by the Campbell-Woods pairing on the PK and think it could work really well. (Did they do that last year? I can't remember.) Liked what I saw from Bunton and some of the other freshmen a lot. Also, I forgot how cold Lynah is when it'by Weder - Hockey
Re: Ivy League Digital Network - 10 years ago
Trotsky Rita Trotsky Chris '03 Trotsky I was going to post after the York game, assuming it is streamed. Both men's and women's games are on the schedule at least: Yep. The CU preview says the radio call will be on the stream too, so this will be a good test. Does this mean that the exhibition game (and also the women's game?) will be carried by WHCU radio? billhoward Attendance at BC for the RPI game was 3195. Conte Forum (hockey) capacity 7884, 8606 when Steve Donahue's basketball team plays. BC did have no classes Columbus Day Monday. But still: 4500 empty seats. Plenty of room for recruits to sit and not be crowded. Conte has to be the worst of the Boston-area rinks, right? Matthews is the best.by Weder - Hockey

Re: What is your definition of a Successful Season - 10 years ago
Rita Jim Hyla Men: LP Women: 1 or 2 in ECAC and get into NCAAs. I think you're asking too much for the women to always make the FF. There are getting to be too many good teams. However, it is an Olympic year, so a lot of teams (Minnesota, Duluth, Wisconsin) might be missing their top players. Didn't some of that contribute to our magical run in 2010? Re: Cornell losing to Bucknell 10-0 in 2nd - 10 years ago
CAS Can't agree with the above statement, with an attendance of over 15,000 reported at Homecoming. Hopefully Dave Archer's youthful enthusiasm will translate into more wins. Based on what I could tell from the video, there were a lot closer to 1,500 who stayed past halftime. The Homecoming attendance number is always huge, but the number of people in that crowd actually interested in the gameby Weder - Other Sports
