Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Saturday: UNO 2 Cornell 1 - 9 years ago
andyw2100 MattSIt was interesting to see the Hilbirch/Knisley/Bardreau line. I like the speed of Knisley and Bardreau on a line together, but Hilbrich didn't fit in my opinion. He's too slow and too weak on the puck (or anywhere) for that line. Bardreau and Hilbrich had a beautiful series of passes in the third period that resulted in a great opportunity for Bardreau. It happened at the opposiby MattS - Hockey

I though Stewart played well in the loss. In the very early going I do like Gillam a touch better just because I thought he controlled the rebounds better. The D really missed Ryan but they accounted for themselves well. I like Bliss so far for a freshman. For the most part he seems to have confidence that is above his experience and is playing up to it. Wedman has looked tenative. It seems liby MattS - Hockey

RatushnyFan Would anyone be willing to list the forward lines and d-pairs? From last night: Forward combos: Lowry-Bardreau-J.McCarron; Weidner-Kubiak-Buckles; Hilbrich-Knisley-Stoick; Dias-Fiegl-Tiitinen. On D, Ryan-Willcox; Wedman-P.McCarron; Bliss-MacDonald. Mitch Gillam in goal.by MattS - Hockey

Trotsky andyw2100 Omaha definitely had their chances, but the one goal they did score was kind of a flukey goal. One of our guys (I don't recall who) fanned on a shot from near the blue line resulting in a 2 on 1 the other way. Jacob MacDonald. He had an up and down game, to put it mildly. He helped set up our goal, then his whiff set up the UNO goal, and then he had a brutal turnover that leby MattS - Hockey

DisplacedCornellian 1-1 tie...not a bad result against a quick team that has played quite a bit more hockey than the Red at this point. What happened to Ryan? Didn't seem like he was out there at all during the 3rd period or during overtime. Something with his right hand. I think he had ice on it and during the handshake after the game he was shaking with his left.by MattS - Hockey
Re: 2014-2015 Season Tickets? - 9 years ago
I haven't received mine yet either but if I recall correctly I didn't get mine last year (or maybe the year before) until about a week or ten days before the first game.by MattS - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2014 - 9 years ago
CAS When should we expect Cornell to announce the hockey recruits entering this fall? It was done on June 3rd last year so, soon I would guess.by MattS - Hockey
Re: 2014 ECAC Early Departures - 10 years ago
I wonder if Ferlin leaving will effect what Ryan does. I think it would if I was his age and in his situation. Losing the #1 tender and now the #1 scorer doesn't bode well for next season. Certainly it would make me think harder.by MattS - Hockey
Re: Frozen Four - 10 years ago
Trotsky MattS Somebody want to explain to me how, if Union wins, it will help Cornell? I'm sure there is some obscure reasoning. If by obscure you mean it's been hard for you to find, it's in pretty much every thread mentioning the tourney the last few years. If by obscure you mean it's been hard for you to follow, sorry, can't help you. You're right, I apologize. I should have used the wordby MattS - Hockey

Trotsky Bennett wins the Penrose. It was his late punching style at the RPI game that put him over the top! Voters were impressed with his willingness to defend his team against those horrid Engineers and the devilish coach!by MattS - Hockey

Final list is out for the NHL Central Scouting. Below are the CU recruits I noticed: #79 Beau Starrett #114 Anthony Angello #142 Jared Fieglby MattS - Hockey

Saw Bardreau in a walking boot yesterday. Anyone know why? I assume it's nothing major and he'll be ready for the season.by MattS - Hockey

Kyle Rose Jim Hyla Towerroad Trotsky Shorter poll: A. "Don't Know" B. "I have deluded myself into thinking I am competent to answer this question." It is going to be a long offseason we have to occupy ourselves somehow. You know what else would have gotten CU into the tourney? Winning the ECAC.by MattS - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the pros - March 2014 - 10 years ago
ugarte Andy Iles wins his first pro game, which sounds really great until you click through and see the score. But doesn't look quite so bad after watching the highlights and see how he was hung out to dry on at least 2 of the goals.by MattS - Hockey

Dafatone MattS Do really feel that one of the non-seniors will jump ship? I personally feel like only Ryan is ready to make a move to the pros. The rest I do not feel that way. We've had people who weren't ready jump ship before, and if I were a very talented player who, while great, has improved a little less than hoped, I might think that jumping now would be better than waiting another yearby MattS - Hockey

Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
redice MattS rediceHow much of much of the defensive side of the game can be sacrificed to improve the offense? That's above my pay grade. I will say this: We saw some wide open teams in the 1970's who were a lot of fun to watch. But, they didn't win a lot of championships. Do we want to return to that? My vote: Nope!! I understand what you are saying and share your concerns. Hby MattS - Hockey

Kyle RoseIf it wasn't obvious from the other thread, I think Schafer is doing a (mostly) bang-up job on defense, and a lousy job on offense. I would be satisfied if he brought in a talented assistant to take control of the offense, because the last 10 years have made it abundantly clear that he's got no idea how to coach it himself. A man's got to know his limitations. +1by MattS - Hockey
Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
ajh258 It's rather biased to host this poll here. A more accurate barometer would be the amount of attention that the sport gets during the season - I would measure that with a mix of attendance, news coverage, total dollars spent by fans on tickets/gear/away games travel. If I had to guess on this barometer, people still want Schafer around, but it's been on the decline for the past few years.by MattS - Hockey

It would be interesting if there was a poll like this one after each season to see how the results have changed over time.by MattS - Hockey
Re: LP Games - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose MattS So unpredictability = bush-league? No. A league bad enough for a player to regularly get away with that shit = bush league. I see. I got it now. That I can agree with.by MattS - Hockey
Re: LP Games - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose MattS Kyle Rose This: BearLover When was the last time Cornell scored a goal off an amazing deke is not hockey. That's bush-league shit that a good defense can and will predictably prevent. Yeah, because those type of goals are never scored by any team at any level! The point is not that these goals never happen, only that they are unpredictable enough against skilled opponentsby MattS - Hockey
