Re: Ivy League hockey recruiting - 11 years ago
Cornell Daily Sun 7/8/2012 In an abrupt reversal after years of expanding financial aid, Cornell announced Tuesday that, beginning Fall 2013, it will no longer provide loan-free aid packages to all students whose parents make under $75,000 a year. Cornell had eliminated loans for students whose families made under $75,000 a year, replacing them with grants and work-study options. No more. Beginniby BMac - Hockey

Matching the higher scholarships of wealthier Ivy League schools to ensure athletic competitiveness... that's about as close to giving athletic scholarships as I'd ever like Cornell to be. Or perhaps it's over the line. I'm conflicted. It's unfair to the rest of us, but it's more fair for athletic competitions against other Ivies. Re: Best ECAC rink - 11 years ago
Yes, Agganis is pretty amazing. Baker is beautiful. Meehan would be a perfectly fine rink if it filled up with loud rowdy students. Obviously, Lynah will always be my favorite, though not at all due to the facilities. The banners do something for me. As far as the renovations... I loved my leaning rail when I had seats on the 14th row of B, but it's nice to fit more people in the rink withoby BMac - Hockey

I'm glad to see so many defenses of Schafer on this thread. I sincerely hope he doesn't read eLynah, and I'm glad that if he does he'll see people coming to his defense. (Not that he should care what a bunch of people on the internet say) The idea of firing him is ridiculous. It's really, really absurd. One bad year. FF 2002. One game away from the FF in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2012. An alumnby BMac - Hockey

Rutgers basketball coach pulls a Bob Knight. Love watching Jeremy Schaap (Cornell alum) absolutely pummel the Rutgers AD for not firing the coach.by BMac - Other Sports
Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go - 11 years ago
Crap. I reeeeeally hope not. Also, I was about to say "go to Penn State, it's a scholarship school with money that you can turn into a big-time program." Then I went to find out who their coach was. Re: Future of NCAA Regionals - 11 years ago
Wait, you mean reseeding the remaining 8 after the first round, right? No Byes? So this: First round: 9-16 @ 1-8 Re-seed the remaining 8 QF: 5-8 @ 1-4 Don't re-seed the remaining 4 Frozen Four Pros: The top eight get a first-round series at home. I really like that. No going to Minnesota/Wisconsin as the top 2-seed. Cons: Not a neutral site. If a 16-seed upsets the top team they stby BMac - Hockey
Re: NCAA Tournament - 11 years ago
+1. Love this quote from their AD: CHN article “We certainly wish George the best in his future endeavors and we are thankful for his 19 years at the helm of our hockey program,” said Denver athletic director Peg Bradley-Doppes. “He certainly had his fair share of success, returning the program to the pinnacle of the collegiate hockey world during our great run in the middle of the previousby BMac - Hockey
Re: Future of NCAA Regionals - 11 years ago
KeithK BMac Alternate idea: would sticking a regional in a "destination location" work? Montreal, Lake Placid (for those of us who haven't been there), or Atlanti sorry. They've tried destination locations for the FF (Anaheim) and attendance suffered. I doubt you'd get great attendance in the locations you mentioned. You also need someone to host (do the legwork), which might be challeby BMac - Hockey
Re: Future of NCAA Regionals - 11 years ago
Are sites really neutral now? You pointed out Manchester; I'll point out our team having to play Minnesota in Minneapolis and Wisconsin in Milwaukee in '05 and '06 respectively. It's like if we played BU at the Boston/TD Garden. It's a home game for their fans. I dislike it as a Cornell fan (we'll never get that sort of treatment unless it was at MSG). But it's great for attendance. Iby BMac - Hockey
