fire it up! fromHockeyjournal.com Six-foot-four forward Byron Bitz graduated this spring from Cornell with a degree in business. For a while, it looked like his next order of business wouldn’t be with the Bruins, who drafted Bitz 107th overall in 2003. But days before camp opened, he put his name on the dotted line. “It wasn’t too bad,” Bitz said of the wait to close a deal. “It could’vby The Rancor - Hockey
Undrafted players - 16 years ago
Will any of our freshmen- who went undrafted- be draft eligable next season (ex: B. Nash or P. Kennedy)? edit: B Nash is a rising sophomore and Kennedy is an incoming freshman.by The Rancor - Hockey

KeithKrediceCan anyone argue that a player will have more time in the weight room at Cornell than he would have while keeping a heavier game/practice schedule in some other league? Yeah, actually I can. Sure, playing fewer games might mean more time for weights but attending classes and doing homework makes takes away training time. Its not the end of the world that this kid won't (likely) stay all 4 years. It was a major coup for him to commit to CU a few months ago- and we were all singing the praises of Prince Riley, heir to Nieuwendyk's crown. So what no one respects the Cornell program. That is new? So what if he can't stay for 4 years. Lets have him for two. great! I'm glad Romano and Milo are gone. Bad eggs. Theyby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Milo - 16 years ago
calgARI '07Milo will also be playing in an International Jewish Tournament in Israel this summer. Other members of Team USA include Dov Grumet-Morris and Nathan Davis. Also, David Adler is on the roster. Dylan Reese was supposed to play but he had to drop out. The GM's of Team USA are Dave Taylor and Neil Smith. that wasn't part of my birthright trip!by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: Post-draft news on Riley - 16 years ago
DILLIGAFredice I wonder if this is somehow tied to Brendon's knee injury. Is the injury bad enough that they would have already decided that he's not part of the 2007-08 team? I hope the answer is: "no". I'd prefer it to be a USCHO mistake.[/quote He knee injury is comparable to the injury that Duante Culpepper suffered a couple of years ago. It would surprise me greatly thaby The Rancor - Hockey

The Oilers moved up, dealing their 30th and 36th selections, to grab Nash, a rangy centre who was the BCHL's rookie of the year after collecting 83 points in 55 games. He's off to Cornell university, but expects to be on the professional tracks before long. "I think I'll take it year by year," Nash said. "I probably won't stay the four years, but if I have to, I will." Aby The Rancor - Hockey

Scersk '97ithacatOn the other hand, if SU's going to spend 35-50 million on a new facility...soft water or hard? I would hope that they'd make it a soft-water facility, because, you know, it's tough to get clean in hard water and Syracuse, well, is a "hard-water town." ZEST!!by The Rancor - Other Sports
Re: Romano will not be back next year - 16 years ago
Milo, Nash, Romano, and Gallagher were all left behind on the north country trip for an undisclosed disciplinary measures. two are off the team, one got his bad ass little brother to blue chip at Cornell. hmmm. the other?by The Rancor - Hockey

redhair34The RancorMcKee is the AHL P.O.W. He didn't fare all that well tonight. ...and he's back in the ECHL. after making the most of his first 3 games, he sure blew the last 2. i wonder how this affects his standing in the Ducks organization?by The Rancor - Hockey
Re: [s]Two[/s] Three more recruits. - 17 years ago
flyersgolf Last years recruiting class has yet to grasp what it is to be a Cornell Hockey player and hopefully that chemistry and understanding to the system will come and no more suspensions will be needed. Mike Schafer has never needed blue chippers to create a winner, he needs guys with Character, Class and Committment to the team. Better days are on the way sooner than later. ECHL News: Shane Hynes, recalled to Portland. Sounds like his rehab has gone quite well. I wish the same could be said for Sasha Pokulok. He has been placed on the 7-day IR, after leaving a game earlier in the week with dizziness. He had been on the 3-day IR previous to that, after a big hit forced him to leave the game. Again I hope his rehab goes as well as Hynes'. But, I still feel pangs of aby The Rancor - Hockey

Re: WHY CORNELL WILL NO LONGER DOMINATE THE ECAC - 17 years ago
bandrews37Then apparently you missed the last four games of the season, when all we were doing was dumping and chasing. In truth, I believe that Schafer has taken this team and this school as far as he possibly can. This team was in a position to win an ivy title this season, needing just two points in the final two league games to get at least a share, and they couldn't pull it out. Is it becauby The Rancor - Hockey
Re: WHY CORNELL WILL NO LONGER DOMINATE THE ECAC - 17 years ago
bandrews37The Schafer glory years are over. The game has evolved, and he's still coaching his style of play from when he wore the Red and White. It's a shame, the players he hoodwinked into coming here deserve better. did you see Schafer play? because if i remember correctly it was a totaly diffrent cornell team back then (when Lou Raycroft was coach).
