Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Sportscenter - 21 years ago
Keith Olberman, as well. Who, I suspect, still has many ESPN ties despite having left the network.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Harvard vs. BU - 21 years ago
As I recall from the (free) BU radio feed when they came to Lynah, the announcers were very poor.by Adam - Hockey
Re: OT: Columbia Basketball... - 21 years ago
I stand corrected, Matt. In that case, Thompson is in a sweet spot. It's good to be the guy who replaced the guy who replaced the legend.by Adam - Hockey
Re: OT: Columbia Basketball... - 21 years ago
Princeton has John Thompson's son (read: actually has coaching in the blood) and it didn't get them all that far this season. In Thompson's case though, it might be an example of "being the guy who follows the legend." Kareem would certainly have no such legend to follow and probably still has a better jump hook than the entire Columbia squad.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Any place to watch in DC? - 21 years ago
Alright, sounds like a final word then. See ya'll there.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Any place to watch in DC? - 21 years ago
Mike, I'll be there with my dad (who's apparently becoming quite the hockey fan). Do you think it's worth posting to the DC alumni listserve?by Adam - Hockey
Re: New Cornell Recruits - 21 years ago
So does that mean she's been a Canadian for a long time or his girlfriend for a long time?by Adam - Hockey
Re: Does Anybody Know How Ticket Sales are Going? - 21 years ago
I'm with David. No way it sells out. There are two eastern regionals, thereby splitting fans. Sure, some will go to both, but the vast majority won't. With two western schools represented, there will likely be lots o' room to stretch out.by Adam - Hockey
Re: New Cornell Recruits - 21 years ago
Question. I know we were able to evaluate and recruite Dougie because he played in New York after moving from Sweden. How the heck did we get to evaluate and recruit this new kid? Does Cornell now make recruiting trips to Europe?by Adam - Hockey
Re: Question from a Pre-Frosh - 21 years ago
Oh, they only WANT you to believe that's the Vet Tower. Top secret stuff. Has something to do with cloning Lenny. Muuaahaha.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Flights - 21 years ago
A word of caution on those E-Savers. They are often good for only 1 departure on the date mentioned. In other words, USAirways (and other airlines who have these "deals" sometimes advertise a cheap fare to grab your eye, yet don't tell you it's for the 11:20pm departure or what have you.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Flights - 21 years ago
Try: www.site59.com They specialize in last minute travel deals, that include flight/hotel (car optional). Highly recommend the site.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Shame on Wodon! - 21 years ago
Supersticion is bunk. For example, if Red Sox fans are so supersticious, why doesn't their team win? Do I pick Cornell to win? No. Do I want them to win and will I be pulling for them? Of course. Two different issues. Case closed.by Adam - Hockey
ESPN.com Poll - 21 years ago
The current "Sports Nation" poll on the front page of espn.com is "Who Will Win The Frozen Four?" (lower right hand side of page). Choice are: Cornell, Minnesota, Colorado College, and New Hampshire. Currently Cornell is 3rd with 12.1% of the vote. Minnesota leads with 55.3%. Get out the vote!by Adam - Hockey
Pull For Harvard? - 21 years ago
Yeah, I know, I never thought I would put that subject line on an ELF post either. But can it safely be assumed that the people going to watch the games at Worcester this weekend will be pulling for Harvard? While many of us have a lot of respect for the BU program, it seems that this the time of year for some conference/league loyalty.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard(score) - 21 years ago
They could have had a car wash/bake sale/etc to raise money. Every high school band in America does that when they want to take a trip. On improvement: Easy, start by showing up!by Adam - Hockey
Re: Cost - 21 years ago
If you say, "Dunkin' Donuts was worth the trip," you might get half price tickets.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Any place to watch in DC? - 21 years ago
If anyone wants to head over a bit early to Fran O'Brien's, I'm going to see if they can put the UPenn basketball game on for a bit(starts at 2:35). Let's go Ivy League!by Adam - Hockey
Re: Baby was robbed! - 21 years ago
I think Ben Eaves might disagree with that statement.by Adam - Hockey
Bottom Line - 21 years ago
All this PWR, KRACH, braket, committee talk gets confusing. Bottom line: If Cornell wins against Brown this afternoon, are they assured no lower than a #2 PWR ranking on the date that NCAA seeds are announced?by Adam - Hockey
Re: CU alums gathering to watch in Washington - 21 years ago
I'd love to see people's best/funniest/most original excuse for getting out of their stuffy DC office early on Friday afternoon.by Adam - Hockey
Re: FYI - No Reentry Policy - 21 years ago
Josh, the reason Shea Stadium has that lax policy is because it would be a public service to put the Mets out of their misery! Two words: Junior Varsity.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Win out or get screwed for the Big Red - 21 years ago
But Keith, I think your argument presupposes balanced conference schedules, which not every conference has. We're lucky to have it in the ECAC.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Ideas for Signs? - 21 years ago
John, totally agree on Aaron Kim. After Peter Capouch (Capouch is an elf!) graduated, had to turn my attention to Aaron Kim.by Adam - Hockey
Re: Ideas for Signs? - 21 years ago
A few suggestions. And, granted, some might be better as cheers and others might not be good at all. All weekend: "Welcome To The Ivy League Championships" "Cornell: Albany tested, Buffalo approved" "Welcome To Lynah--Capital District" For Brown: "We're painting the brown red" (Capitalize 'B' if you choose) "Hey Brown, how many of these have yoby Adam - Hockey
Re: Win out or get screwed for the Big Red - 21 years ago
I don't know if conference standings ought to count as an overall criterion. I mean, conference games (which determine conference standings) are already counted in the overall record. It's not like conference games/conference tourney games are somehow taken out of overall record, strength of schedule, or any other criterion. BU deserves to be where they are right now.by Adam - Hockey
Re: NCAA scheduling changes? - 21 years ago
From Adam Wodon's USCHO article today: "Last season, the NCAA put travel restrictions in place, which left the committee with little flexibility. Those restrictions are no longer in place, but with a war in Iraq looming, would they return? "We're taking a look at all possible contingencies," said NCAA Dir. of Championships, Tom Jacobs. "There is not a policy as there was lasby Adam - Hockey
