Re: My brain hurts... - 22 years ago
Admittedly, it's been 30 years since I wrote a program (although I did have a summer job as a programmer in '69, '70 and '71). Anyway, if you start at C=5 and O=5 and adjust for every penalty and goal ( the program should be able to act like a ref and know how many should be on the ice at any time), I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get the values of C and O each time a goal is scored. Re: My brain hurts... - 22 years ago
This may be too simplistic, but can't you just merge the goal and penalty files by time, and flow through the game. C=CU players, O=opp. players, start C=5, O=5 and reduce where appropriate for penalties and then add back when appropriate for expiration or early release for goals. Each time a goal occurs, you'll know the values of C and O.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: More ESPN genius - 22 years ago
During last night's Isles-Leafs game, they showed both Dryden and Hughes, and then incorrectly said that Hughes captained the Cornell hockey team when Dryden was the goalie. Well, they were only a year off. Emily Hughes, Sarah's sister, skated between periods. It was an awesome game. I'm going to Toronto tomorrow and will be at game 5. Should be fun. It certainly will be better than the 4-0 Bby jkahn - Hockey
Hockey computer virus? - 22 years ago
Someone unknown to me "Berniejv@hotmail.com" sent me a file named iginla(1).exe. Being a big hockey fan, I clicked on it without thinking. Next thing you know, I'm getting "out of memory" messages and my computer is freezing up. Can't prove they're related, but I've since had windows reinstalled and it's working fine. Since whoever it is may have picked up my address from tby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Notes on the Frozen Four (long) - 22 years ago
While the OT infraction may have been a penalty, early in that PP Hauser clearly clothes-lined a Maine player with the top half of his stick as the Maine player was skating aroung the net. Unfortunately that wasn't called, as I would've liked us to have a shot at knocking off the defending national champs next December.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 1971 tournament - 22 years ago
The UVA website lists 1971 as one of many years that they won the ACC Championship, and also shows that their longest winning streak, 12, was from '70 to '71. Also, they have a list of All-Americans, and the '71 squad had 3 first teamers, one second and 2 thirds. Also, they beat Navy in the regular season in '71, as their longest losing streak against an opponent was vs. Navy from '59 to '70.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: [Off-topic] Lacrosse - 22 years ago
Al, maybe my recollection of Army being #2, Cornell #3 and Navy or Va. #1 were the rankings going into the tournament and not seedings. Unfortunately, recollections are not quite as sharp as the facts.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: 1971 tournament - 22 years ago
Al, my recollection of the '71 tournament seedings is somewhat different. Teams were seeded 1 through 8, with Army #2 and Cornell #3. Perhaps there was a conscious effort when they did the seedings to regionalize by putting more northern teams in the 2,3,6,7 bracket and southern teams in the 1,4,5,8 bracket. The first two rounds were at campus sites. I was at the game at Army which we won 16-by jkahn - Hockey
Re: April Fools! - 22 years ago
The joke issues used to be on the big party weekends. Spring weekend my freshman year, the headline was Dryden to Leave School and Play for Canadiens. And this was at a time when almost no former college players were playing pro hockey. On the back page was a petition "signed" by many urging Ken to stay in school. Among the alleged signatures, mostly Cornellians and especially Corneby jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA - Ivy Squabble - 22 years ago
May recollection is hazy, but wasn't it something like the NCAA passed a rule saying you needed a 1.7 average the previous semester to maintaine eligibility, and the Ivies thought that was bull as how do you equate a 1.7 at _____ with a 1.7 at ______ . I'll be polite and let others have fun filling in those blanks.by jkahn - Hockey

Thanks - 22 years ago
Thanks first and foremost to the Big Red hockey team (players and coaches) for giving us a fun season to follow. You were great. Thanks to Age Manocchia for providing this forum for all the Lynah Faithful (and Kyle previously for CHDF). And thanks to posters on the Forum for your insightful observations during the season. How many days until the 2002-2003 season starts?by jkahn - Hockey

For those with the Swedish flag, just wanted you to know there was a great shot of the flag on TV right after the Murray goal.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: SCSU was screwed - 22 years ago
The guy on the far side from the shot was clearly in the crease, so it should have been No Goal. The guy out front, who was more in the play, was borderline, and I don't know if he would've been called, but the guy on the far side, who had nothing to do with the play, was so clearly in the crease that they had no choice after looking at the replay.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA TV - Chicago area - 22 years ago
If I have to leave my house at 5:30, that would be 5:30 where I am, not somewhere else. Since I didn't expect anyone to drive from another time zone (although southwest Michigan's not far) I thought I'd be safe, but I've edited my posting to add CST just to make sure it's clear to all.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: NCAA TV - Chicago area - 22 years ago
My house in Flossmoor (in south suburbs). Any and all Lynah Faithful are invited, Sat. and hopefully Sunday. E-mail me if interested and leave a phone # and I'll get back to you with directions. Saturday, I've got to leave for a wedding at about 5:30CST, so let's pray for no o't.by jkahn - Hockey

I would assume the blackout is because some local, over the air, station has the rights to the Maine games and will be showing them.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Joe N. gets traded to Devils - 22 years ago
In these days of rapidly changing rosters, it's hard to have any loyalty to organIzations. Plus, I've always admired Lou Lamorello (sp?) and the job he's done with the Devils - like I never understood why other teams didn't draft Brian Gionta before the Devils got a steal in the 3rd round. So Good Luck Joe and Let's Go Devils. There's an article on the trade at:by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Semi-final Pairings - 22 years ago
Instead of the usual E1 vs. W2 and W1 vs. E2 semis, the committee apparently also did an overall seed for the top four teams, and with UNH and BU being 1 and 4 respectively, decided that those brackets should meet in the semis. See from the NCAA site and note the "overall" seeds on the bottom. I don't know if this is a new procedure or perhaps it was introduced last year or before bby jkahn - Hockey
Re: Yale-Cornell Part II - 22 years ago
The PP looked great tonight. Unbelievably crisp passing from the first two units. And thank you whoever it was that was responsible for getting this game on TV. It was great seeing the Big Red at Lynah on TV out here in the Midwest. I watched it tonight with my wife and a Cornell couple I drove to Boston with for the '68 ECACs, which we won 34 years ago tonight. A good way to celebrate thatby jkahn - Hockey
Re: #1 defense - 22 years ago
When did we switch ends? We definitely defended the closed end in periods 1 and 3 during the time I was in school. In fact, I remember accusations from other teams that we were skating downhill for 2 out of 3 periods.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Off topic: Lacrosse - 22 years ago
Butch Hilliard was my dorm counselor spring semester '67. I remember him saying that if Ned took over the baseball team (even though it was very mediocre and Ned didn't coach baseball), he (Butch) was sure they would win the Ivy League title. That's how much he thought of Ned as a motivator.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: Everything But Anchovies - 22 years ago
If I hadn't just finished dinner, after reading this thread I'd probably be trying to cook myself a PMP right now. After I graduated I used to make them for a while, but they do taste better after you've waited on the Hot Truck steps when it's 5 degrees out and past midnight. What's a WGC? Either I've forgotten or don't know. I was always PMP w/Pep or MBC w/mush.by jkahn - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
During the '66-70 time period, I don't even remember the concept of Ivy title. The only standings anyone looked at were the ECAC (with BU, BC, Harvard and Clarkson the key competitors). Of course, even with the ECAC standings, it was usually a case of looking at the standings to see how 2 through 8 were shaping up When the NCAA's were held in the east. my freshman and senior years, I bought NCby jkahn - Hockey
