billhoward Winter-spring 1971: Cornell all-time pugilist Kevin Pettit, like a fire hydrant (only one was taller) with boxing gloves, in overtime, shot from center ice beats Harvard 5-4. IIRC correctly, Pettit needed close to 20 PIM in his final game to break the Cornell record. And did. Three-year totals: 36-80-111--227 PIM vs. 126 points. That was the era when a very good player got 2 points a gby jkahn - Hockey
NIL Update - 2 years ago
Some links follow regarding how some schools and their alumni are using the NIL rules to funnel money to student athletes. I see this as largely the professionalism of college sports as opposed to real NIL opportunities that make business sense to the providers, as they are using alumni donations to a Trust to fund the NIL money going to the athletes. In order to compete in the future, will Corby jkahn - Hockey

arugula Saw the drop in the pwr. Who wants to take a shot at explaining that? Game counts as .44 wins and .54 losses, which certainly lowers our win %. It's 55% win x .8 (home win factor) and 45% loss x 1.2 (home loss factor).by jkahn - Hockey

jtwcornell91 ursusminor And on Saturday RPI lost to previously 1-12 Alaska whose only other win was vs. Clarkson. Although the Nanooks did get two almost-wins in Ithaca. In fact, with the home-away weighting, I think two OT losses on the road actually counts for more than one regulation win at home. It counts for more than one home win but the overtimes also add a loss factor, so the one homby jkahn - Hockey

Andreev along the boards makes a short pass to Stienburg in the faceoff circle who quickly passes to Psenicka in the slot. Now 3-0 after 2. Re: 3-on-3 overtime and the RPI & PWR - 2 years ago
For pairwise, we are actually under .500. Home wins are multiplied by a .8 factor, and home losses by 1.2. So our 2-0 record gets factored down to (1.1 x .8) wins and (.9 x 1.2) losses, totalling .88 wins and 1.08 losses. The committee in charge obviously thinks 3 vs. 3 overtime is fairly meaningless weighting it only .55 vs. .45, why not go back to 5 vs. 5.by jkahn - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 Not gonna start a new thread. Just watched the third period of the Canada - Finland women's game. Brianne Jenner with the empty netter to clinch Canada's 5-3 win and also an assist on the 3rd goal. Rebecca Johnston and Jill Saulnier got ice time, but didn't score (I believe). Jamie Bourbonnais and Micah Zandee-Hart also on the roster, but I think they were healthy scratby jkahn - Hockey

scoop85 Dake takes Bronze with a convincing 5-0 win over Chamizo of Italy. Terrific job coming back from the shocking 2nd round loss. Congrats to Kyle! Except for that loss, Dake won all his other matches without giving up a point. Kadzimahamadeau, who beat Dake, was shut out 7-0 by Sidakov of Russia in the final. In the heavyweight final, Gable Stevenson, this year's NCAA champion, took the goby jkahn - Other Sports

CU2007 So when will we know if he’s done or not? The Belarus guy did beat Chamizo, so Dake will wrestle Garzon of Cuba at 10 eastern tonight for a chance to get back to a bronze medal match.by jkahn - Other Sports

Dake gets beat in 2nd round match by tech fall. He'll only get a chance at the repechage if the Belarus wrestler beats the #1 seeded Italian in the semis.by jkahn - Other Sports

Dake wins his opening match 4-0 vs. the #4 seeded Iranian. See weight class preview: Dake's next match will be against a wrestler from Belarus who beat Garzon of Cuba 12-8.by jkahn - Other Sports

jkahn Kyle Dake's first match is scheduled for 10:51 eastern time tonight against an Iranian opponent. I don't know if that gets moved up if prior matches end in a fall. If he wins, he would be in the second quarterfinal and the quarterfinals are scheduled to start at 11:26, immediately after the first round ends. It should be on the Olympic channel and also internet streamed on nbcolympics.cby jkahn - Other Sports

Rita my niece is now a freshman in high school and is starting to look at colleges. I had lunch with her yesterday and it was a rare day when a teenager was in a chatty mood. She has been researching colleges in the northeast and has been checking out the IVY league schools. she wanted to know what was up with Cornell, the gorges and suicides. oh dear.
