Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams

Lennie gives up two short-handed goals--both called "weak" by the announcers--and is replaced by Fleury.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: 13/30 Polls - 21 years ago
Apparently an easy win for Maine. Consolation games have not been good to us since...God knows when. The OSU loss will probably hurt rankings and PWR much more than the loss to Maine.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Ohio State, 12/29 - 21 years ago
It sounded like Marr couldn't be faulted. The one question we'll never get answered is whether Lennie's absence affected the way the team played (i.e., more defensively in front of a very inexperienced--at the college level--goaltender). It didn't sound that way against Maine (apparently very aggressive until the string of penalties shifted the tide a bit), but tough to really know.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

I think we should play in the North Dakota cupcake event, instead.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Two short-handed goals by Chris Higgins helps beat the Swiss, 3-1. (Sorry, John. )by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

We're very happy with DirecTV so far. Picture quality is much better than the AT&T cable we had before. Only concern is their financial situation, and whether they'll survive if the merger (takeover?) with Dish is not approved.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Let's hope we can get up for tomorrow's game so there isn't a repeat of last year's game with OSU.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Maine, 12/28 - 21 years ago
Good effort. Couldn't get the second goal to get a little breathing room. The three penalties in a row seemed to shift momentum to Maine.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Maine, 12/28 - 21 years ago
Maine seemed to come on in the last five minutes of the second. Could be the result of killing three penalties in eight-nine minutes. We'll see shortly.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. Maine, 12/28 - 21 years ago
Gotta stop with the penalties. Maine's better than 25% on the PP.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

My sense is that if Hornby's healthy Schafer's gonna play 'im.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Seems to me if they're ever gonna play him it would be against Germany.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Maine radio announcer says it's Marr. I'm quite surprised. (See bra's comment above.)by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Maine Game, televised? - 21 years ago
There doesn't even seem to be a preview of the game at the CornellBigRed site. A feature of the new, improved coverage, I presume. Can anyone suggest what might have been the last regular season game that had as much national implications as tonight's?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
YES - 21 years ago
YES is available on DirecTV as part of the sports package that includes just about every Fox Sports station on the planet as well as Empire and probably a few others. But it doesn't seem to include whoever it is that's doing the Canada team's WJC games.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: ECAC Tourny Games, Fri. - 21 years ago
Bizarre game. Yale's starting goalie, Cohen, gave up six goals on twelve shots. It was 1-0 with two minutes left in the first when two quick goals sealed it. On the first Cohen went down for no good reason and Hirsch put it over him. On the second, a PP goal, Vanek was allowed to stand alone in the slot, got a pass from behind the net, and easily found a corner from point-blank range. Theby Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: And boy aren't these guys out to lunch... - 21 years ago
Robb, you could very well be right--especially since much of what they said wasn't very coherent. And, if that is what they said, I hope they're right. You're very right, though, in saying they're the ultimate homers. Wonder what the North Dakota announcers are like...by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: And boy aren't these guys out to lunch... - 21 years ago
According to the Minnesota TV announcers, Cornell is a "really good team--big, strong, and their goalie, Jimmy Howard, is playing for the US Junior team in the world championships."by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

We had weather bulletin BS in Boston, too. Haven't people in New England seen snow before?by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Cornell occasionally plays the University of Waterloo (top-notch comp sci department, by the way), not the Waterloo Black Hawks, who play in the USHL.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes TV Special, Dec. 25 - 21 years ago
I didn't watch it, but my wife said that during the awful "America's Greatest Christmas Decorations" show they had a promo for Sarah's special--which confirmed the December 25, 8pm slot.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: [OT] Sarah Hughes TV Special, Dec. 25 - 21 years ago
Well, this is still a mystery. Instead of Sarah, NBC Boston is showing "America's Greatest Christmas Decorations" tonight at 7pm,. This is the wonderful show that the local paper says will be seen at 8pm, December 25. So...here's hoping we'll see Sarah Christmas night.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
