Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: North Dakota Postgame 1/22 - 14 years ago
Team didn't look like they played at their top level but the skilled UND team probably had a lot to do with that. Hopefully they'll hit their stride tomorrow. Any thoughts on the penalties? Some of them looked a little soft. M. Devin 5 minute was probably deserved but the 5 min we got in our favor looked soft. Overall, a really good "grind out" win.by sockralex - Hockey

Re: Poll: What is the most useless stat in hockey? - 14 years ago
My vote is for GWG for the same reasons as everyone else, but... I think looking at any statistic alone doesn't tell the entire story. The +/- and the 3rd assist are good stats combined - a good indication of a "play maker" IMO. I am not sure if there are players who have a combination of a lot of goals but a weak +/-. I am not a big statistics hound so I'll throw the question outby sockralex - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs. Colorado College Pregame (NOT a game thread) - 14 years ago
andyw2100 upprdeck anyone find a cost on the b2live feed? the link doesnt say I might be remembering incorrectly, but I believe last year the cost was a few dollars more per game than the typical $7 or $8 for the regular season games. How's the quality? Worth the cost if it's around $10?by sockralex - Hockey
Re: Visiting Yale/Brown - 14 years ago
Word is that it’s restaurant week in New Haven, so folks may want to plan accordingly. I am not sure what the level of popularity for it is though… By the way, Pepe’s is great stuff so I’ll try to go if I get out of work early.by sockralex - Hockey

Not sure if anyone has posted about this already but CNNSI had this in their Campus Corner today. Looks like a repost of an earlier Sun article.by sockralex - Hockey

RichH Thanks for that link, since someone over there has put up a video clip of the SportsCenter coverage. I can't find it. Granted I haven't searched through it very thoroughly. Can you please post the sports center clip link?by sockralex - Hockey

RichH You'll be singing a different tune when the Whalers come back, and I'm living 2 blocks from the Civic Center. }3 (stole that emoticon from a life-long Whaler fan, BTW) Also, considering I moved from Blacksburg, VA, I'm quite empathetic to your plight in W. Lafayette, and also excited to be within a 2-hour drive of seven ECAC schools, and back in the Lynah roadtrip range. Yeah, Hartforby sockralex - Hockey

Just sit at Mac's Cafe in the bottom of Statler around lunch a few days and you could probably get his autograph and other hockey players as well. Trillium is a good bet too.by sockralex - Hockey
Re: Harvard ejectsion - 18 years ago
mikee293so can we go to Bright, throw some stuff on the ice at the opening of the 2nd period, and then have Harvard serve 2 mins in the box? As mentioned in another thread it's been tried before in Bright. 2 years ago after a Moulson hat trick (those were the days) the Hahvahd fan threw a hat onto the ice to try and get a penalty. It was in a game stoppage a little bit after the hat trick. Hby sockralex - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Colgate Postgame 2/4 - 18 years ago
ugarteOne more thought: as much as I enjoyed seeing the game on TV, count me among those who think that ESPNU has now idea how to televise hockey. I can't count the number of times that they showed a player's face as he was winding up to shoot, cutting away just quick enough to catch up to the puck in the corner. The ADD producer refused to just keep the camera pulled back far enough to watch theby sockralex - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Colgate Postgame 2/4 - 18 years ago
Doug '08Agreed, definitely a very goonish bunch of fans. Throwing things on the ice DURING game play? They were "warned" twice, but should have been penalized. I believe 2 years ago a rowdy fan threw a 4 foot plastic phallic shaped object and even that only warranted a warning. Seeing the referee pick that up was priceless though. Yesterday the camera panned the Colgate crowd inby sockralex - Hockey

I am going to go to Rookies in Cromwell just south of Hartford and see if I can get a TV there for the game. I figure it's worth a shot. Alexby sockralex - Hockey

What is the source of info? Also, has anyone considered the fact that Sasha is one of 3 defenders listed as being a Right stick player? I think that can really help out.... i've always thought it was an important issue for hockey players for which side they play on to be a certain stick. Maybe I am mistaken...by sockralex - Hockey

Re: What The Hell Do I Do? Injustice Maybe? - 18 years ago
I got kicked out tonight. I guess I said "Asshole" too loud and the usher was able to hear from behind me somehow. Luckily I was booted right before we made a comeback in the third. Nice way to finish my time at Cornell considering I am graduating in January. I am sure many were glad to see me go.... then they didn't have to hear me yell "FIESTY FELINES" at the Bobcats.by sockralex - Hockey

Robb Wrote: Forget 76. I want him to catch Turco at 127! Theoretically, he could have as many as 100 games remaining (18 RS to go this year + 8 playoff games, then 37 + 37 the next two years - I'm assuming that if we're doing that well, we'd be getting first-round ECAC byes). He'd "only" have to go 77-23 in those games to get there. HUGE challenge, for sure, but not completely outby sockralex - Hockey

CM cWo 44 Wrote: -Student section chanted "Harvard Rejects" as time was winding down. Syracuse students were chanting that? Too bad there was more of them and they bring boxes of nails to the games or else "Cornell Rejects" or "Safety School" would've been a nice retort.
