Re: Cornell @ Union, 2/10 - 3 months ago
Cornell is getting all the calls so far this game. Thank you Gabe Seger for making the PP look less like complete crap. Still, I don’t get it—watch the Union PP from just prior—vastly more movement. It’s night and day compared to five Cornell skaters mostly standing around aside from the two defensemen at the point occasionally trading places.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Union, 2/10 - 3 months ago
Our PP is pitiful. Can’t gain the zone cleanly, and when we do gain the zone the offense is so unsettled that by the time we cleanly possess the puck, the defense is already set up. It’s also clear this team barely practices 5x3. How about a shot fake to get the defenders moving? All we could muster was a couple of shots from outside (relatively speaking, since the defense is packed in pretty cloby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Teams ahead of us in PWR that we are beating in record vs common opponents right now: 2. North Dakota 7. Denver 8. Minnesota 9. Quinnipiac 10. Western Michigan 11. UMass 12. Providence Basically, we are 2-0 vs NCHC and 1-0-1 vs HE.by BearLover - Hockey

upprdeck Quin up 8 on us.. we have a game in hand.. So we need to do our thing and get it to 5. We win and they lose to Clarkson and suddenly they are in reality 1 win ahead of us with 5 left for them. More importantly, Q losing to Clarkson means we are in striking distance of them in the PWR. In the ECAC, all that really matters is first round bye + not seeing Q until the final. There isn’t mby BearLover - Hockey

upprdeck looking ahead. Prov and mass have multiple games vs Maine/BC/BU.. hope for the best there. St cloud/WMU play each other twice. Mich has one more with MSU and 2 with Minn. Every little loss helps Conn outshot Umaass tonight but couldnt pull that game out. Hope for the split tomorrow. That UConn result stings.by BearLover - Hockey

Cornell down to 15 in the Pairwise. But—we are now within striking distance of the four teams directly ahead of us. (CC is now within striking distance of us, though.)by BearLover - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ RPI, 2/9 - 3 months ago
One thing Cornell started doing (as of at least last week, possibly prior) was put Fegaras on the first PP unit as a second D. Previously Robertson was the only D on the first PP unit I think. Not a hockey genius so someone else is going to have to explain the advantages/disadvantages of having one versus two D on the PP.by BearLover - Hockey

The Rancor Maybe with home ice on the line, we get better scheduling... maybe even a proper number of games played each season... better SOS... Better RPI... I'd rather have the odd chance at winning in Denver with the nearly same chance of winning at Lynah. This logic doesn’t make sense though. The entire point of RPI is to compare two teams who play different schedules. RPI is a function of SOSby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Adam's CHN podcast talks about the home NC$$ seed issue this week. I forgot how amazingly smooth his voice is, it's a pleasure to listen to him. Wow, the Denver coach sounded smart and made some persuasive arguments. After listening to that, I am firmly in the camp of playing the first two rounds of the tournament at schools. Though Carle made a number of good points, one key takeaway waby BearLover - Hockey

If hypothetically Cornell did run the table until it lost the Ivy final, we would be 26-4. In my eyes, that would certainly make us deserving of the NCAA tournament. When your record is that good, the fact you don’t have any wins over top teams shouldn’t be disqualifying. Winning 87% of your games is extremely difficult. In that scenario we would also be nationally ranked. I think we’d get an at-by BearLover - Other Sports

upprdeck Playing the PWR what if is pretty hard to see us getting very much higher without some bad play above us no matter how well we play down the stretch. If Mich doesnt get swept this weekend by MSU they gain on us and if they sweep they really gain on us Umass has 4 chances to win over higher ranked teams. so best to have them beat UNH in a few weeks and hope they lose a bunchby BearLover - Hockey

VIEWfromK For me the shift away from Lynah began when the Men’s basketball team went on their back to back NCAA tournament runs. IDK. It’s not like home basketball games are attracting that many fans, and it’s rare for basketball and hockey to have competing home games in the first place. But you’re right that things started to decline around the time when the basketball team began having successby BearLover - Hockey
