Re: Colgate @ Cornell 02/07/17 - 7 years ago
I remember being a student just a few years ago and the Colgate games being sold out affairs. Lynah looks less than 2/3 full tonight.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Achievements - 7 years ago
Roy 82 Hooking In the past 20 years Cornell won 3 ECAC men's ice hockey championships. In the previous 30 years Cornell won 9 ECAC men's ice hockey championships. If you are content with these numbers good for you, but please don't defend your satisfaction with references to league change, bad hops, and all that malarky, just enjoy the status quo. I am not happy with participation ribbons in anby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky TimVAnd I wish we'd stop complaining about the refs.99 times out of 100 I'd be with you. And if anybody has the temerity to claim the refs screwed us against Harvard I'll pitch a fit -- we should have been assessed a minimum of 1 and IMO reasonably 2 delay penalties for the the fuckwits who don't understand NO FISH AFTER THE FIRST PUCK DROP, AT ALL, PERIOD, YOU ASSHOLES. Ahem. But.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2016 and Beyond - 7 years ago
As our spineless senator Marco Rubio might say, can we dispense with the notion that an improved ECAC has yielded recruiting benefits for Cornell? Or, for that matter, any benefits for Cornell at all?by BearLover - Hockey

Wow. Well, this could go down as one of the worst weekends in Cornell Hockey history.by BearLover - Hockey

imafrshmn I just caught this quote in the Daily Sun article. Did anyone else notice? Coach Schafer “I think our crowd — our students — have to show up,” he said. “We were excited but I saw our players looking up in the crowd and going, ‘Where the hell are the fans? … I know not everybody is back but this has been continuing on here … To skate out and hear the roar of your student body, there’sby BearLover - Hockey

This is a few hundred seats we're talking about here. Just lower the damn prices.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd @ Cornell 01/27/17 - 7 years ago
Dafatone I used to be a big believer that ticket prices are too high. They still are, probably, but I also think there are a bunch of kids who can afford season tickets but then just don't make the games a priority. Of course. But the goal isn't to get every last person at Cornell interested in hockey--it's to fill the stadium. I think season tickets are a downward-sloping demand curve like mby BearLover - Hockey
Re: The Next Two Weekends - 7 years ago
Swampy andyw2100 scoop85 That being said, we've won a lot of one-goal games, so the margin for error is pretty slim. But I am optimistic about our chances to have a successful final 11 games of the regular season, which to me would be something like 7-4. Our losses are also all one-goal games, though, with the exception of the home Quinnipiac loss, which was 3-1. We're playing a lot of closby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky BearLoverTotal number of penalties is fine; it's the types of penalties we're taking (completely unnecessary ones) that's so frustrating because it's completely preventable.I have not noticed this except for the last weekend. Prior I thought just the opposite: as opposed to the last 4 years we seemed very disciplined.IIRC, the entire third period vs. Princeton was one stupid penalty afteby BearLover - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence 2 vs. Cornell 3 1/21/17 - 7 years ago
Dafatone I don't think we've been THAT undisciplined. The retaliation penalty with two minutes left last game was bad, but honestly I blame the refs for that. SLU already had a minor coming, then a scrum occurred that SLU started, and I didn't see Cornell scrumming any more than SLU did. I'd be curious to see some sort of penalties per game stat comparing us to other teams, but that's tough beby BearLover - Hockey

Jim Hyla upprdeck i thought the STL goalie was awful all night, he was beat on the glove side repeatedly. the McCarron goal was really soft. he left a ton of rebounds and got saved by pipes a couple times. But then again we got saved by at least 1 pipe and 1 late crossbar. Those things happen. We also had a few that just missed, when Gillam was out of position. I certainly didn't think he wasby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Clarkson 3 vs. Cornell 3 1/20/17 - 7 years ago
Great win, but the number of penalties coming in the offensive zone/off the faceoff/after the play is over is going to cost this team at some point.by BearLover - Hockey

Zero discipline on this team.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Clarkson vs. Cornell 1/20/17 - 7 years ago
Al DeFlorio Hooking Ever notice that the attitude of a team is reflected in the attitude of its fans? Truth is, I never noticed this. And I certainly don't notice it in this year's Cornell hockey team. What I do notice is a very negative attitude on the part of you. I've noticed a positive team attitude and a positive fan attitude?by BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Jason teases our first home game in about 6 weeks with "a long awaited day, and a transfer of power." 'Scuse me while I drink this bleach, It's weird, given that we could very well look back on today as the day democracy died, that I still care a lot about the outcome of this game.by BearLover - Hockey

As intersession doesn't end until Wednesday, I assume most students are still home for break. So not much of a home ice advantage this weekend.by BearLover - Hockey

Re: Rankings - 7 years ago
Trotsky BearLoverAlso, according to this, since 2010, 26 points in-conference was enough to guarantee a first-round bye, and >7 games above .500 overall was enough to guarantee an at-large bid. The latter statistic doesn't account for the effect of ties on the PWR, however. Here's the link to pts by seed. We'd need 27 points post-2010 (the 5th place team in 2015 had 26). RichH BearLover BearLover Now Cornell goal disallowed for no reason. This will be the game we look back on when Cornell misses the NCAAs by 1 game. ...and ask, "Why didn't Cornell play like that every game?" See, here's the thing, even as one of the eLF optimists: I wasn't blown away by the win. Translate that, it was a good win, but it wasn't pretty. I felt we locked it down by theby BearLover - Hockey

What a joke. Cornell dominates first five minutes incl. Kubiak goal, Buckles takes completely needless penalty while Cornell has possession and is entering Q zone, Q immediately ties it up on PP.by BearLover - Hockey
