Re: Cornell v Union - 6 weeks ago
If Schafer challenges the Clarkson tying goal for a hand pass and it gets overturned, we’d be favorites for an at-large bid. Or if we beat Union, of course.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell v Union - 6 weeks ago
scoop85 blackwidow Goodbye ncaa Holy crap—you realize if we win the ECACs we’ll get a bid, right? I know it sucks right now but we have a team good enough to win the league. It is true that we can still get into the NCAAs if we win the ECAC, yes. It is also true that Colgate, Dartmouth, and the rest of our league can do the same. Cornell is not special in this regard. We have the second best teby BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone adamw BearLover upprdeck coach said they reviewed for goalie interference not a hand pass. I dont think hockey looks at everything in a review like football does. Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 7 weeks ago
upprdeck it all matters but if we had won the game in Reg we would still be in 16th though closer to 15. the same for Sat nights game. Win both nights though we would be in 11th The goal is to get an at-large bid by the end of the season. Thus, the difference in RPI for winning/losing is what matters, not whether we are 15 or 16 in a particular weekend before the end of the season. For examplby BearLover - Hockey

Scersk '97 BearLover Again, the logical extension of Trotsky’s argument is to not care about the regular season, not care about out of conference games, and put the entire season’s weight on 2-5 games in March. Last night’s game was irrelevant in Trotsky’s view, I guess. Jeff Hopkins '82 BearLover Dafatone BearLover Safe to assume Cornell is going to have to win every single game until the ECAC finals if they want to make the NCAAs. Absolutely not safe to assume that. There's more hockey left than people realize. I disagree. Cornell is going to be 16th in the PWR after tonight. It will not be especially close to any of the teams ahead of them in RPI. Cornellby BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone cuhockey93 Lots of people don’t agree you can have a good season and miss the NCAA tournament. It’s as simple as that. The team doesn’t go into the season with win% targets. Certainly the players won’t call that a good season. My three goals every year are get a first round bye, make it to Lake Placid (or wherever the tournament is), and make the NCAAs. Dafatone Different people value different things. If I had to choose, personally, I'd take the national title. But I understand people who think the ECAC is what matters and the NCAAs are just a fun bonus exercise. It’s not just about what you value, though. Well, I guess it ultimately boils down to that, but it’s just so silly to watch a 35-game season and only care about how a couple of theby BearLover - Hockey

Scersk '97 So just win the ECACs. A national title without an ECAC Championship would be kind of hollow anyway, in my opinion. In my dreams, the NCAAs would just be the regular season “champs” and champions of each conference, with those who unify those crowns getting preferential seeding. A couple of prelim rounds if necessary and the Frozen Four. Would be great. Lol. Okay dude. Quinnipiby BearLover - Hockey

Trotsky Stop measuring every breath with respect to the NC$$s. The important fact of every season is the ECACs. As with football and basketball, the NCAAs is a kitschy doohickey that was added to the end to make sportswriters feel important. Yeah, it would be fun to win, but measuring a season against it is like measuring your life by the size of your coffin. This is, obviously, a completely rby BearLover - Hockey

ER lol 1 loss in 15 games. What a charmed life we lead. ? Cornell is probably going to miss the NCAAs because of a horribly unlucky series of events in the final seconds of tonight’s game. The fact we didn’t lose for 14 straight prior makes that more frustrating, not less. This was a terrible result.by BearLover - Hockey

Big Dingus I am cheerful. It’s just facts though. Yale may have been the dagger anyway. Clarkson has really played below their talent the last few seasons. That always makes me scared to play them, because I expect us to have a better chance of losing than the Pairwise would suggest (which in turn would really hurt us in the rankings).by BearLover - Hockey

chimpfood Nothing against sever or student athletes in general, I know how hard it is to balance sports and school, but it’s kinda funny that a 3.5 gpa wins scholar athlete of the year for the whole league. 3.5 in Engineering is like a 3.8 in another school though I think.by BearLover - Hockey

Dafatone arugula with the players on the Pens pp, how is that even possible? Cornell's PP is too passive and too content to shuffle the puck around the umbrella, but I don't fault them for not shooting enough. Firing a shot into a defender's shins from the point is bad. We need to have more motion away from the puck and work the puck down low to generate chances, and for the love of god do somethby BearLover - Hockey
