Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
The mystery to me is why Lacrosse missed essentially two seasons and bounces back better than before, while hockey, which missed really one season plus one post season, is dramatically worse.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - polls 4/25/22 vs. RPI - 2 years ago
yes it did. While the record was as good as some teams, the poor sos and the resulting low PWR doomed the season.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - polls 4/25/22 vs. RPI - 2 years ago
PWR killed hockey, but its sort of equivalent is helping lacrosse.by arugula - Other Sports

Do you think the UND is still happening? Depending on whom we play at MSG this would be the strongest OOC we’ve had in a long time.by arugula - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
They just keep going. Love the fact that the parade of coaches who, ahem, moved on are all having tough years while Cornell just keeps winning. Petramala, Tambroni, Milliman, Deluca. Anyone else?by arugula - Other Sports

The whole league is looking remarkably good, particularly when you consider how mostly bad Ivy hockey was this year. Optimistic outlook: First loss in three years.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
Yes. That’s so frustrating too when the fogo fights to a draw and we don’t get to the ground balls. Strange that coach to coach it’s the same problem.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
Penn was 21-19 on faceoffs against Princeton. 11-2 against us today so far. I ask again, why are we consistently terrible at the x. Everything else is good and it’s all being undermined by the x. A shame to have one aspect ruin everything. Down 9-4 and could be worse but for Ierlan.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
OK, riddle me this. USILA poll has us at number 3 last week. We beat a good, ranked Yale team and ...drop in the polls. No respect for this team yet, despite a reasonably tough schedule. Need to beat Penn Saturday.by arugula - Other Sports

Definitely will be better for Barron. More ice, a Cornell friendly coach. To my eye, he was better than a few of the people Gallant has been playing in New York, but with such a young team, I suspect the coach wanted a bit more age in the lineup. Morgan also looked a little slow at the NHL level to me. He's definitely mastered the AHL, so it's NHL or bust now. Let go Jets!by arugula - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros 2021-2022 - 2 years ago
The Barron trade really depresses me. I've been a Rangers season ticket holder since the first Roosevelt administration, or so it seems, and have been waiting for a Cornell player to wear the Blue after having to watch Vesey, Blackwell, and Fox, though for obvious reasons I've grown to love Fox. Had high hopes for Morgan on Broadway, but the Rangers have a logjam of bottom six forwards and wantby arugula - Hockey

Q was 1-5-1 against Cornell, Harvard, and Clarkson. 30-1-3 against everyone else. Means either that they will win the National title or they kind of suck.by arugula - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
Does anyone understand the game well enough to explain why we are consistently below average to bad on face offs? I know they’ve tweaked the rules a bit to make it more of a team effort That fourth quarter just felt utterly hopeless.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - polls 3/7 Cornell 4th - 2 years ago
Interesting that Quint, who I think usually has us higher than the poll, has us at 8 this week after 7 last week. So two good wins and he dropped us? Strangeby arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2022 - 2 years ago
My amateur analysis: when we had truly great middies and attack, the key was, I thought, passing in tight spaces. This team seems unwilling or unable to attempt those passes. Rather, they work the perimeter and try to go 1 v 1. While I love Jason on hockey, he sems a bit lost on Lacrosse. Lots of stats and stories, not much useful description.by arugula - Other Sports
Re: Cornell @ Princeton 2/26/22 - 2 years ago
I mentioned the concussion several posts back, but everyone was locked in to the stream issues! Sometimes it’s not the head contact but the whiplash which causes the concussion.by arugula - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Princeton 2/26/22 - 2 years ago
At the game. Definitely not “sold out” unless they have limited seating. Love baker rink. So far so good. Should be 2 or 3 nill. All one way traffic. As to andreev, I think two weeks ago he got drilled and was laid out on the ice for a minute or two. Came back later but I wonder if that shot either exacerbated a prior injury or concussed him. Re: Awards & Honorifics 2022 - 2 years ago
Is it the system? Or is it a good team and a terrible schedule. Other than UND, with whom they split, they have played no one good.by arugula - Hockey

Does the ice look choppy tonight? Or can we be that sloppy?by arugula - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
That’s the guy I was referring to. The scuttle it was that he missed too much practice so Lou Reycroft wouldn’t play him. Very fast attacking player. Smallishby arugula - Hockey

Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
Could be right. Do AAP students declare majors immediately? The guy from my time was definitely an architect, not a planner or something else, so he played a lot less than his talents would've suggested.by arugula - Hockey
Re: Recruits 2023 and beyond - 2 years ago
Don’t know about Rayhill but can report that McIntyre is alive and well on north campus. My first year daughter met him. Aside from ability issues, the fact that he’s in AAP may be an issue preventing him from getting in the lineup. In my day, the one architect on the team supposedly missed too many practices to get in games, though he was good when given a chance. More importantly, now a succeby arugula - Hockey
