Re: Should He Stay or Should He Go 2014 - 10 years ago
Kyle Rose RobbBecause just as kids are entering college is a typical time for parents to make major, potentially risky career changes? When they graduate college would seem more likely to me. If he wants to maximize his kids' grants at a top-tier, need-blind, full-need school, he'll quit his job the year before his kids enter college. That's what my dad did—unwittingly, admittedly—but it cut theby Josh '99 - Hockey

ugarte Josh '99 ugarte Staying in school for a diploma or a class when someone is offering you pro-athlete money to leave is evidence of a brain injury. For a guy like Ryan Haggerty making $925k, sure. The ECHL salary cap is $12,000 per week, so Iles is maybe going to make a couple thousand dollars before the end of the season. And he can take Incompletes and finish his degree over the summer. Tom Lento I'm not saying that Cornell is going great guns right now, particularly not by the standards Schafer has set for the program, but I think anyone even considering removing him as head coach needs to step back from the ledge.Let's not forget this - we (excepting those whose fandom dates back to the Harkness era) hold the program to the high standards we're discussing in this thread and elby Josh '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell lacrosse 2014 - 10 years ago
billhoward Now that everyone else has lost, Cornell has to move up. Question is, if Cornell loses an RS game, how far does it fall and how quickly do critics say "This would happen once Cornell met some really stiff competition"? Interesting that what is perhaps the least heralded team of the past 5 years is doing so well on the field and in the rankings. Syracuse game April 8 will be hby Josh '99 - Other Sports
Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
mha But I do feel the novelty is limited, perhaps as much as the novelty of playing at Madison Square Garden. Playing there once was amazing! Every two or three years lets everyone try it. Schedule a game there every year, and I think the fans will rapidly lose interest and stop coming, and then playing there will start to feel like a game against Colgate in Newark. Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
Jim Hyla adamw Jim HylaI understand that it's the school's choice, but why don't they ever do a poll of the fans from each school. See where they would prefer. Sure it would cost some money, but not much. Sure, it wouldn't identify, for sure, those fans that would actually attend. But I'm also sure that a school like Quinnipiac, which has done many polls and has a polling institute, could designby Josh '99 - Hockey

Re: Lake Placid Attendance - 10 years ago
KeithK MattS I can see the players liking it a lot and enjoying playing there. It is obvious that the league and some of the coaches are trying to pass LP as a recruiting tool. However, I wonder how much it really effects recruiting. I just can't see a player thinking: "Well, BC wants me bad and so does Cornell. But dang I could play at Lake Placid if my Cornell teams(s) makes it to the ECACby Josh '99 - Hockey

MattS Chris '03 Jim Hyla adamw Kyle RoseThrowing shit against the wall to see what sticks is not how good businesses operate. Said it before, will say it again ... Attendance is going to be bad pretty much no matter where they put it. Might as well put it in a place with prestige. The attendance in LP won't be any worse than any other location, so it belies your point about it being so difficulby Josh '99 - Hockey

gomestar i can't access twitter on my work computer, but this tweet from TSNquizmaster: "Since acquiring Srivens, Oilers have gone from NHL's worst team save percentage (.889 Games 1-49) to the NHL's best team save percentage (.930 games 50-70)"Acquiring a good goalie can be part of The System, right?by Josh '99 - Hockey

Rita JC Trotter is being projected as the starting center for the the Green Bay Packers. Trotter went down with a season ending injury in minicamp (IIRC), though was able to work out with the practice squad at season's end. Green Bay's center from last season recently signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs.Nitpick: Tretter.by Josh '99 - Other Sports

Pretty sure this is his award. The younger Carey snuck up there. Finn taking the job from the incumbent is why he gets on the list. Perry's W-L isn't good.I know Anas got a lotby Josh '99 - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Colgate LAX - Cor 6-3 half - 10 years ago
billhoward Cornell sounds good but not blowing out Colgate. 6-3 at the half.Colgate's 6-1 coming into this game (albeit against a soft schedule that has them below 1-4 Villanova and 1-5 Ohio State in Laxpower's computer rating), so I don't know that I'd necessarily expect to be blowing them out. 13-10 now with about four minutes left.by Josh '99 - Other Sports

Tom Lento KeithK Jim Hyla Icy The Bardreau save at 12:30 in the first period, part 2: (1) Josephs brings the puck to his forehand (2) Shoots as Bardreau dives in front of him (3) And Bardraux blocks the shot with his stick. Thank god for a bad backhand, he certainly could have scored if he felt good about it. Definitely. I would score 9 out of 10 times from that spot with a backhand so no doby Josh '99 - Hockey

billhoward Josh '99 billhoward Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, 813 Mirror Lake Drive, next to the new Hampton Inn. Multiple levels, school pennants (Cornell prominent), good food. Try the Ubu Ale, it's fantastic. Been there, drank that. They also have good IPAs. Read the menu card carefully. Alcohol content ranges from 4% to 9% so at the higher end you're getting a load of liquor. You say that likeby Josh '99 - Hockey

scoop85 More trouble for Teddie: Arguably Harvard's top two recruits for next year, Brandon Fortunato and Adam Plan, apparently have decommitted. According to posters on USCHO, for Fortunato at least it may have been a problem getting through admissions.Un-Fortunato-ly for Harvard, it seems like things aren't going according to the Plan. ACM Funny, there were three defense pairings listed on Cornell's line chart for the Mercyhurst game: Richardson-Gagliardi, Smith-Cudmore, and Murray-Poudrier. And I saw all six of them in the game at one time or another. Admittedly, Gagliardi, Cudmore and Poudrier played a lot more than the other three, but we still had six defense dressed and playing in the game.Murray is listed as a forward onby Josh '99 - Hockey
Re: 2013-14 Women's Ice Hockey in NC$$ tourney - 10 years ago
MattS I agree about the short CU bench. It was obvious MC had the better legs for a lot of the 3rd.This seems to have been the case for the women's team for a while now. For instance, the 2009-10 team that played to 3 OTs in the national championship game had just 18 players, not even close to enough for a full lineup; this year's has 21 including three goalies, enough for a full lineup if everyby Josh '99 - Hockey
