Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Alumni in the Pros - November 2014 - 9 years ago
Scrivens mentioned in this post about the Ducks' recent outbreak of the Mumps. Still: the mumps is kind of a funny, archaic disease, as far as viral infections go. This is right up there with when Nick Foligno caught consumption, when Alexei Emelin suffered from dropsy, when Olli Jokinen contracted the King's Evil, and when Ben Scrivens missed a month with an imbalance of the humors.by Luke 05 - Hockey

With Grambling's win tonight over Alcorn St, I believe Cornell now holds the longest current D1 losing streak. Southern Utah is the only other school without a D1 win this year but they won 2/23/13, a week more recently than Cornell's last win.by Luke 05 - Other Sports

It's been noted that the goal should have been disallowed. It was a delayed offsides and you can't score a goal on a shot on goal from the shoot-in. Definitely heartbreaking and a bad call.by Luke 05 - Hockey
Re: Final Central Scouting Rankings for 2012 Draft - 12 years ago
adamw FYI - it's not really a prediction to go in the 3rd round - since the numerical ranking only reflects North American skaters. <Embeded Don Cherry video praising players from Quebec and Ontario>by Luke 05 - Hockey

Campbell led the league in minutes played (partly because he took so few penalties). He's the front-runner, but Moulson isn't far behind given his prodigious scoring ability.by Luke 05 - Hockey

As expected, Moulson balances Bitz out for Cornell sportsmanship and is nominated for the only award in professional sports with "Lady" in the name:by Luke 05 - Hockey

Re: Other Regional Scores - 12 years ago
What's wrong with having a strong Union in the ECAC? All we do is complain that weak in conference opponents hurt RPI/KRACH/PWR, and now we have an opportunity to have two nationally recognized teams. I hope they all stay and the ECAC builds on the success of Union/Cornell this spring.by Luke 05 - Hockey

Melrose has already called the Union goalie "Grossman" and said that Western Michigan was playing. Who wants to sign the RPItv for NCAA tournament petition?by Luke 05 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 KenP Jeff Hopkins '82 They were all such easy questions, too.Eastern bias... The questions basically amounted to: Which is the oldest university in the US? Which Ivy League School is in Providence? Who plays football at Franklin Field? Which Ivy League school is in New Hampshire? Where is the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs? Don't you mean the answers?by Luke 05 - Other Sports

Moulson checks in at #49 on Bucci's top 100 NHL players list. 49. Matt Moulson: You want 30 goals? Here you go. This guy is going to get 30 for the third year in a row. Some people know just where to go and what to do to be successful.by Luke 05 - Hockey

Re: Men's Basketball 67 Princeton 59 - 12 years ago
Current Bracketology has Ivy Champ (UPenn) as a 16 seed and Harvard as a 9 seed. Will be interesting to see if Harvard makes it through the conference with 2 losses if the Ivies get 2 teams in the tourney. Highly unlikely in the end, but still fun to watch this year given the hot start.by Luke 05 - Other Sports

So when Datsyuk puts a puck in the net off a D-man, it's a heads up play. But when Colin does it, that's luck? I guess it's all about perspective.by Luke 05 - Hockey

One of my favorite announcers is Darryl 'Razor' Reaugh of the Dallas Stars. He consistently uses an expanding vocabulary to turn the sports cliches on their head. Example, a "mastadonic save" as opposed to a "monster save".by Luke 05 - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Tamboni to Penn State - 13 years ago
The Ivy League does encompass the New York, Boston and Philadelphia TV markets. That's 3 of the top 10 markets covered by 8 teams. If the Pac10+2 is excited about adding the SLC TV market, it's reasonable that if athletics were given more priority, then the League could score a sizable TV contract.by Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: Basketball tournament expanding to 68 teams in 2011 - 14 years ago
They won't play a 17 seed because Kansas/Duke/Syracuse/etc will still play Winthrop/MTSU/Morgan St/etc. They will not be adding the 2nd place team from the Socon to the dance so in essence the field is getting stronger at the bottom because the 15/16 seeds will be playing each other for the right to play the 1 seed.by Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: Basketball tournament expanding to 68 teams in 2011 - 14 years ago
Does this make the possibility for a 16 to upset a 1 more or less likely? I could see both sides: More - #1 seeds will now be playing the equivalent of a 15 seed in today's tournament since 15 plays 16 in the PIGtails. They will all face teams that have had their first tourney appearance jitters out of the way Less - They will all face teams who have played two days before with more injurieby Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
One difference between Dunphy and Donahue: Dunphy only one 1 post-season game (even losing the one game playoff with P-ton in 1995) in 17 seasons at Penn. He never proved he could coach with the big six conferences. Donahue has a better post-season record and has been by far more visible than Dunphy ever was thus making him a better target for a BCS conference.by Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
Though giving may not increase due to team success, the purchasing of school branded merchandise and applications certainly increase and are direct sources of revenue to the school. I'm not sure how many t-shirts the school would have to sell to offset at $2m raise, but I'm sure someone with time can figure that number out...by Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: CU & ECAC Tourney on TV - 14 years ago
I have Time Warner and they have added it to the regular package (non-sports tier). You might want to check and see if the channel has been added to your programming guide.by Luke 05 - Hockey
Re: Odds that Donahue stays? - 14 years ago
If John Thompson III can go from Princeton to Georgetown after 2 NCAA appearances in 4 years, there's no reason to think Donahue couldn't go to a BCS conference. Granted JT3 had some nepotism going in his favor, but there is definitely a history that Donahue could end up better than in the Rutgers/Lasalle/St Johns area.by Luke 05 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell mentioned by Seth Davis - 14 years ago
Cornell drops from 31 to 39 after a blowout win vs Columbia. I doubt there's any scenario that puts a second Ivy team in the Last Four Out by the end of the season. Even if Cornell wins out, their RPI will likely fall into the 60s.by Luke 05 - Other Sports
