Re: Women 2023-24 - 10 months ago
scoop85 Weder The official announcement of the Class of 2027 includes five players: D - Piper Grober D - Abby Thibodeau F - Beatrice Perron-Roy F - Karel Prefontaine G - Annelies Bergmann A few of the gals mentioned in the recent Hockey News article are not listed as part of this class. I’m pretty sure they based that article on the commits listed as committed to Cornell on its Elite Pby mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
Yes. I heard rumor at one point that it wasn’t certain if Bergmann would arrive in 2023-24 or 2024-25. She’s a senior this year so I’m not sure why she would delay coming.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women 2022-23 - 1 year ago
billchu Given that the season is now over, what is the outlook for incoming recruits (2023-2024)? I can't find a consistent list of incoming players for next year. I know of the following: - Karel Prefontaine (F) - Piper Grober (D) - Anneliese Bergmann (G) - Lindzi Avar (F) The first two were on the Canadian U18 team last year (aged out this year?). Bergmann was the US U18 goalie forby mattj711 - Hockey

Weder profudge Team USA versus Sweden on ESPN+ leading 1-0 early in first right now. This is the U18 Worlds in Wisconsin. Incoming D Grace Dwyer had a couple of assists in a 6-1 win. Canada has four incoming Red players (and a 2023 commit) and lost its opener, 2-0 to Finland. There are two 2023 Cornell commits on Team Canada, Piper Grober and Karel Prefontaine.by mattj711 - Hockey

Weder Five players from next season's incoming class were selected to the U.S. and Canadian U18 teams for the 2022 Worlds, which didn't take place: Team USA: Grace Dwyer (D) Team Canada: Avi Adam (F), McKenna Van Gelder (F), Alyssa Regaldo (D) and Sarah MacEachern (D). Piper Grober (D), who is a 2023 commit, also was selected. Anneliese Bergmann (USA) and Karel Prefontaine (Canada) are alby mattj711 - Hockey

They did, but Johnston Saulnier only were on the team together for one year.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2017-18 - 7 years ago
It appears that the team has also picked up a commitment from Willow Slobodzian, formerly a UND commit. She played for the Canadian U-18 team for the three game series against the USA this past summer. She was going to enroll at UND this fall. I'm not sure if she will be able to get through admissions for the 2017-18 season or if she'll be in the 2018-19 recruiting class.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
andyw2100 Jim Hyla No, she came at a defenseless player with a hard illegal check. It should be called for what it was. I would hope that even in the men's game, a defenseless check would have been punished. Those are the type of checks that can be career ending, and how can you say that because the next game is an NCAA game, you'll look the other way. If you want to eliminate that type of play,by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
andyw2100 Crazy thought, but could this be the powers that be at the ECAC wanting to try to tip the scales a bit to make it more likely that the "stronger" team moves on to the next round? I was watching the game and also thought it didn't look like much of anything at the time. My mind went there too.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
daredevilcu Wow. Wow is right. I didn't see what exactly she did to draw the penalty at the time. I would like to see that play in front of Cornell's empty net again.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
Jim Hyla imafrshmn BC wins, so Cornell should get in. Big question is whether we get matched up against Clarkson again or perhaps Minnesota-Duluth. They pick 8 teams and here's the PWR before today's results. dag14 Great finish; kill a long 5on3 and then survive SLU pulling the goalie with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd. Hope they have enough gas in the tank to take on Clarkson tomorrow.... Yes it was...also Cornell making the NCAA tournament now pretty much comes down to either pulling off another upset tomorrow or, failing that, for BC to not choke against whomever the play (BU or NU) tomorrow.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
She posted on Instagram after last season something along the lines of it being a very difficult decision to quit hockey to focus on getting healthy. It would be great if she were able to come back next year, but it sounded like a permanent health related retirement.by mattj711 - Hockey

Nice 2-1 win over Princeton this evening thanks to Taylor Woods scoring two goals in the last 1:30 of the game, the first being short handed.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 8 years ago
Official announcement on the 2015-16 recruits: Looks like a solid class. I believe Cornell will be stronger defensively with the addition of Hart and Saracco (from what I heard Saracco was expected to be fully recovered and ready to play this coming season so I'm assuming nothing has changed). Cornell also appears to be solid in net with more experienced returning net minders and the additby mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
I think we match up better with Quinnipiac, based on the regular season games I watched. Fortunately, neither of those teams' seasons will likely be on the line tomorrow. Hopefully, that gives us enough motivation to get the W against either.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
Anyone know why Saulnier, Fulton and Bunton didn't play last night. It looked like Saulnier suffered some sort of injury in the game against Yale last Friday, but I was hoping she would be back for this weekend. Fulton and Bunton not dressing was a complete surprise.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
Looks like Derraugh moved Woods back to defense for most, if not all, of the third period. I thought it really helped Cornell's play. The third period was the first time this season where the team appeared to be somewhat clicking. At the very least, I wasn't scratching head wondering what in the hell they were doing.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 9 years ago
imafrshmn After first period vs Quinnipiac, down 3-0, it's obvious that this is not a great hockey team right now. They have a lot of bad habits on both ends of the ice, easily find themselves out of position, and can't get through the neutral zone with speed. The absence of Saulnier and Jenner to the Four Nations cup hurts, but I think Doug Derraugh's absence behind the bench, as he's also awayby mattj711 - Hockey

Announcement on the class of 2018: 2014-2015 Roster: ; Confirms Jenner is returning as expected. Any one know what happened to Murray, Pittens and Leck?by mattj711 - Hockey

Jim Hyla Via ECAC, Canada's National Women's Development Team Selection Camp for Under 22. From CU: Hayleigh Cudmore Cassandra Poudrier Jill Saulnier Taylor Woods Invited, but unable to attend Jessica Campbell In addition, incoming frosh Hanna Bunton will be there.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
Weder So the recruiting thread on USCHO lists four forwards and a goalie as committed for next season. I assume that there will be at least two defensemen coming in as well. So that seems like a large class given there are three seniors on this season's roster. Can I assume that the expectation is that Jenner and possibly others will be out for the Olympics? And will there really be four goaliesby mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Cornell women 5, BU 2 - 11 years ago
jacks9110 Good to finally see Poudrier play and make an impact. Will Gags play as a forward the rest of the season? Don't see any reports, which is strange this late into the year, but how is recruiting going for 2013? From what I can tell, pretty good. I've heard rumor of at least 2-3 players committed for next season.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Cornell women 5, BU 2 - 11 years ago
I'd say we played much better yesterday than today. Today, we looked more tired, and there were to many indivual efforts.by mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Women's Preseason - 11 years ago
margolism I believe that Brampton team is a pretty highly regarded women's team; has two Olympic gold medal winners on it. Even though it was an exhibition game, it is a quality win. I would agree. Montreal is even more highly regarded. If Cornell is able to win again tomorrow, that would be an great sign for the upcoming season. Both exhibition games should hopefully be good preparation forby mattj711 - Hockey
Re: Cornell Women's Hockey: Offseason - 11 years ago
Correct. She is Liz's younger sister. I saw a roster which had her height listed at 5'10" or "11. Hopefully, she has good speed and mobility to go along with it.by mattj711 - Hockey
