Re: ESPN Declares Cornell Among the "Hot" Teams in South Region - 16 years ago
On one of the Sportcenter segments on ESPN Radio today, they were talking about the potential for interesting matchups. After expressing disappointment that the Hansborough (sp?) brothers were not going to get to play against eachother, the committee was praised for pairing Cornell and Stanford to get the game leading to the most lawyers, doctors, and CEO's.by cth95 - Other Sports

UVM 1 vs. NE 0 Just got back from the game. I don't know how UVM gets credit for supposedly being a rowdy place to watch a game: Other than occasional chants from the student section (which seems to consist of only one section at the end of the arena even when I have been there for non-spring break games) the fans only cheered after the goal and a couple of other key plays. They finally sby cth95 - Hockey
Re: The "Fighting" (Lady) Sioux - 16 years ago
Rita, Did this ever happen in any of your games? It might be a good way to let out frustration when people screw up something on which you have put in 80-h weeks. Just take it out on the next player that bumps into you.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence post-game - 16 years ago
daredevilcuUVM used to play all of their instruments into microphones. UVM still has the band piped into the speakers. I went to a game against Northeastern a few weeks ago, and I didn't think there was a band at first. Not only does the sound from the band come through the speakers, but every other break is just typical piped in music. Before I noticed the band in the corner, I thought theyby cth95 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence post-game - 16 years ago
As I said, two students each with a drum at SLU(t) (The one with the big marching band drum was whaling on it about as hard as he could, the other had a snare drum so it wasn't quite as loud) and a Clarkson band member drumming during play certainly seem to fit rule b and c, respectively.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: St. Lawrence post-game - 16 years ago
I thought Clarkson was bad enough occasionally drumming during play. The two guys with drums at SLU(t) beat on them as much as most fans clap during a game. The only time they quieted down a little was during the 3rd period when Cornell was all over the SLU(t) end, probably worrying them enough to make them actually pay attention to the game. Didn't someone on here say that artificial noisemby cth95 - Hockey

Re: St. Lawrence post-game - 16 years ago
I don't know if it will affect Davenport's confidence if the reason was just to buy time, but it certainly confused him for a couple of minutes. Schafer signaled to Davenport to come to the bench as the team started to huddle around. It took him a couple tries to get Troy's attention, not surprisingly since goalies aren't usually involved in these discussions. Davenport skated halfway, andby cth95 - Hockey

I know about the threads, but all of the discussion about politics made me temporarily forget who had played whom in the first round.by cth95 - Hockey
North Country Roll Call - 16 years ago
I'll be at both games with a few friends. Clarkson is on a break, so I don't know how full the student section will be to challenge us. Is our band making the trip?by cth95 - Hockey

Nevermind original post. Just turned on the TV and didn't immediately realize I was watching Monday's game. Now I know why there was no thread already started.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: 19-0? - 16 years ago
I saw some ball caps in a convenience store just south of Burlington (VT) with the Pats logo and 19-0. I don't know who the heck was already distributing them, but I don't think the owner or manager of the store was too bright to put them out either.by cth95 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Unusual happenings at Union - 16 years ago
A new guy stalled a Zamboni in between the circles before my pick-up skate once, and noone could get it started in time for our skate. At first we planned to push it out of the way, but then we realized that is wasn't going to go anywhere with the shaving blade down. sah67cth95Here is a link to the Canadiens Fan Forum. The few I read were all positive and pretty excited about O'Byrne. That one's archived. The current O'Byrne thread is here: I went to your link and it was also archived. Maybe we have to surf to the right page of the links we posted. When I copied the link in originally, it was current.by cth95 - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros - December 2007 - 16 years ago
Tony Marinaro on the Team 990 thought the Canadiens nead to keep O'Byrne and Lapierre in the line up if they are going to turn their season around. He said he knew it was only one game, but Tony spoke very highly of O'Byrne's performance.by cth95 - Hockey

Anyone know how much Leneveu will be affected (hopefully helped) by the trade of Auld from Phoenix to Boston?by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Alumni in the Pros - O'Byrne - 16 years ago
O'Byrne is taking regular shifts and seems to be playing well. I will be interested to hear what they say on the Team 990 out of Montreal tomorrow. I listen to that station a lot when I am driving in far northern Vermont 2 days/week for my job. They spend about 90% of the time talking hockey. I do hope the Bruins' 2nd period rally continues, though.by cth95 - Hockey
Re: Helmet Poll Images - 16 years ago
The Lynah Faithful and Band tributes on Scrivens' helmet are very cool. I was wondering why he had a black helmet when I saw it from a distance at MSG. I think Burt's and Lenny's helmets both look very cool and go the best with the Cornell uniforms, with the nod towards Lenny's. I voted for McKee's, though. I don't really like the amount of white on his helmet, but I have always liked theby cth95 - Hockey
NFL Schedule Cornell Mention - 16 years ago
I just found this on SI.com while reading about this past weekend's games. Quote of the Week IV "The intent of the flex schedule was to make sure that, in the second half of the season, the primetime network package didn't get stuck with a bad game. It was never intended to cherry-pick the best game on Sunday and move it to prime time ... I think the Patriots versus Cornell would pby cth95 - John Spencer Is Dead

Shopping at the Harvard "coop"? I would have thought the commercial should have been read "Co-Op". Then again ,they said it has been around since the 1890's, so maybe they read it right.by cth95 - Hockey

Re: Alumni in the Pros- O'Byrne - 16 years ago
P.J. Stock's show on the Team 990 AM out of Montreal discussed O'Byrne and one other player (I'd remember it if I heard it) vying for possibly the last defensive spot on the Canadiens. They played a good interview with O'Byrne in which he discussed hoping he makes the team but realizing he will have to earn any minutes he gets and that he will not be able to take it for granted. He came acrossby cth95 - Hockey
New "We Suck" Prank - 16 years ago
Here is a link to a story about an Ohio high school pulling a prank similar to Yale's with Harvard. Unfortunately, the kids' own school administration came down pretty hard on them. I really don't see why pulling a prank that ownly hurts an opposing school's ego should be that punishable, if even worth punishment at all.by cth95 - Other Sports

I teach skiing part-time with a guy named Joe Bartlett who is in the UNH hall of fame for lettering in three sports. Of course, part of the reason he is in the hall of fame is because he was the last athlete to do this at UNH and it was in the 70's. He played with Dick Umile when hockey first became a varsity sport there. I think he played football and baseball, too, but I can't remember whichby cth95 - Hockey
