First Quarter:
1-0 CU Hurley (Glynn)
2-0 CU Hurley (Romero)
3-0 CU Finn (Hurley)
4-0 CU Ritchie (unassisted)
5-0 CU Hurley (Finn)
Hurley scores off the opening faceoff feed from Glynn. He completes the 1st Period Hat Trick in the final minute. Hurley, Finn, and Ritchie sound dominant.
Second Quarter:
6-0 CU Romero (Espey)
7-0 CU Glynn (Seibald)
Barry Leonard with an interview with Mike French during halftime (recorded last night)
Third Quarter:
8-0 CU Hurley (unassisted)
8-1 CU Weber (?)
8-2 CU Andrzejewski (Winkoff)
9-2 CU Finn (Hurley)
10-2 CU Seibald (unassisted)
11-2 CU Espey (unassisted)
Slow start to the half. Penn breaks through on an unsettled situation. That must've made CU angry. Seibald scores off a Glynn faceoff win, Espey gets the 11th with 0:02 left in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
12-2 CU Seibald (Ritchie)
13-2 CU Hurley (Finn)
13-3 CU Winkoff (Hughes)
13-4 CU Weber (Andrzejewski)
13-5 CU Kohart (Andrzejewski)
Tambroni calls off the dogs after Hurley's 5th. Martinez replaced Myers, bench emptied.
"Statement game" says Barry. Score is closer than the game was. All indications are that it wasn't a perfect game, but a very strong game on both sides of the ball. Myers seemed to be seeing the ball the best he has all year. Breaks a 2-game losing streak at Franklin Field.
Myers - 13 saves, 2 GA.
Defensive player of the game: Myers
Offensive players of the game: Hurley & Finn

Glynn won the opening faceoff, passed to Hurley, goal after nine seconds. Several chances for Penn since then.

No. The audio-only or "lite" version of the PennCast costs $5 for a subscription, but if it's not on their media schedule...

I'm watching MD - UVA and wondering why ESPN doesn't have lax scores on the ticker during a lacrosse game. Not like the audience would care. Certainly people tuning in to a lacrosse game only want to see tonight's schedule in other sports...

Awesome offensive performance by Cornell and a combination of smothering defense by Cornell and a troubled Penn offense.
Cornell fans nicely outnumbered Penn fans but the total turnout, under 1,000, is another reminder of how a stadium such as Franklin Field can be too large.

Yeah, I love how Duke carries on the stats of the 2006 season, giving their players more games than anyone else.

What a great day.
All the sloppy play in the second half couldn't ruin my post-buttkicking buzz. Other than beating Harvard in hockey, is there anything more satisfying than throttling Penn at La Franklestra for the Cornell fan? So many horrible things have happened to Cornell football, lacrosse and basketball on 33rd Street over the years.
It also was a pleasure to finally meet Fred and the fabulous Em.
All the pieces are settling into place for Cornell.
Derkac looks super at his new position (starting close defenseman) and on the wing for faceoffs. What a brilliant move by the coaching staff. He's easily the biggest surprise success story of the season. I'm so glad he didn't follow his brother to Brown (like every other freaking Virginia-bred player in the prep universe -- what's up with that?). MacDonald is a better fit at LSM. Ritchie is clearly the best choice as the third starting attackman as well. And after some skepticism, I'm realizing that having Glynn face off is genius (as long as it's done with some moderation), because he can best take take advantage of the new faceoff substitution rules -- and because he's a damn good defender when necessary. Even Myers looks more comfortable.
I still think the Syracuse game could get very, very ugly. That team is built to prey on Cornell's weaknesses, and you can't count on Myers getting some verbal abuse given his history as a Syracuse transfer. It will be challenging for him to stay composed if he doesn't make a few early saves. I absolutely love Syracuse's new guys, especially Galloway, White and Smith -- how ironic that they're so much more productive than the Inside Lacrosse cover boys of 2006.
Even if Cornell doesn't survive the Syracuse visit, I'm starting to really like this team -- unforced errors epidemic or not.

It was a pleasure meeting you finally too, Hillel.
Btw, this reminded me of our discussion (well, my questioning) of mundane details of the 'closest' rule, so I just looked this up in 2008 NCAA lax rulebook:
Rule 4, Section 6b:
So, it depends. On a 'closest' call it's 'crossing the plane' that matter, but on any other play it's 'touching the ground'.

Loose ball—When a loose ball touches a boundary line, the ground or
any object outside a boundary line, or when a shot crosses the plane of
the end line or sideline (when determining which player is closest only),
it is out of bounds; and the following rules apply:
