The Semin mention has stirred up the Caps message board, mainly because it hasn't been locally reported in the DC press. I've privately been hoping the Caps trade Friesen to SJ for Murray and a middling pick. SJ's apparently interested in Friesen, and I think that's probably about the right price.

I saw that link on INCH, but decided against posting it b/c the author (as you said) doesn't really list a source. But the bit about going to class did catch my eye...he must have heard that somewhere

Or he might jump ship to Harvard where you don't have to worry about doing well in class in order to get good grades.

If you go to an Ivy league school, I think you're aware that they'll be classes involved.

The writer may be using inside information. The inside information may be using the writer. The writer may have read more into the source than the source intended.

Pokulok wouldn't be the first Cornellian unenthused about going to class. It isn't exclusive to athletes. But for the most part, haven't the Schafer-era players who got in, stayed in?

Let's hear more tales about how Harvard athletes glide through. Is that just jealousy on our part? The stores are frequent enough.

I'm just waiting for the requisite comment that some people here might need to attend a few grammar classes. Oh wait, I guess I've made it.

It is an honor and a privilege to attend classes at Cornell University - has anyone ever said, "Boy, wish I would have left Cornell early and jumped to minor league hockey, now that I've thought about it, I really don't need that degree."

If it's that tough, take Ag Ec or Communications. You can attend classes and do two hours of work a day and easily graduate (to be fair, assuming no language barriers or learning disabilities). It's not that hard. Plus, you get to walk around campus as a hockey player and a first round draft pick - that must be pretty cool.

Dropping out didn't hurt Kurt Vonnegut or Bill Gates. Vonnegut may have been a different kind of draft pick.

Smart people come into the university smart and leave smarter.

Athletes hear a different biological clock ticking, one that says you've only got until about 28 or 30, then your physical condition deteriorates. Maybe they think of it as multiple semesters abroad with the optional return to campus. Given that David McKee is about the same age as David Leneveu, that might play a role in his choice to stay or go. If McKee stays four years at Cornell, he'd be a 24-year-old rookie in pro hockey that fall.

That said, given the odds are long for anyone making the NHL or NBA, even as a high draft pick, I'd rather they stayed in school. If pro hockey doesn't pan out, he's had four pretty enjoyable years and a good education. I hope Sasha stays.
