I read the FAQ, and I tried e-mailing Reynolds, but I didn't get a response. So, has this information changed? Please, tell me how to get a jersey, I'm desperate.

Dude, calm down: they will come along. I spent a combined total of 3 years waiting for availability before getting the two I have. If Bill doesn't respond, that probably means he doesn't have any at the moment.

In the meantime, you can always get one of the better replicas; it's not like it will go to waste after you get a real jersey: just stick it in a window or something.

Cheers,
Kyle

Your best bet, if you're in town, is to go down to Teagle and talk to Bill in person. I didn't have much luck with e-mail either last year.

Maybe my experience with Bill over email is an outlier: he's generally responded quickly when he has some, but whenever I had to badger him, it meant there was nothing available.

But I concur with Pete and FR: it can't hurt to go see him if you're on campus. If I were on campus at the time I was looking, that's what I would have done anyway, despite the rather brisk walk at this time of year. :)

Cheers,
Kyle

Seeing as I live halfway across the country there's little chance for me to get to Teagle. I'd gladly pay $20 (plus direct expenses of course) to someone if they would be willing to pick up a jersey and mail it to me. If anyone can/will help, please email or elynah-private-message me.

I got #1 in red, so I have a goalie jersey to fit over my pads. Just painted my white helmet red this weekend, too. Too bad I can't play half as well as Chabot or anyone else that has worn the number for real. :-)

I feel like a real lame-o playing hockey in my Cornell jerseys, because I could play 8 hours per day, every day for the next 40 years and not be as good as those guys are... but that's doesn't stop me. :)

Anyway, glad Bill got back to you. Not surprised to see the price has gone up, given the increase in demand over the past couple of years.

To those of you who buy them, or have bought them in the past: treasure the jersey, by which I mean "wear it often." Think of it as actually useful facetime, because I imagine lots of tiny impressions raise overall awareness of Cornell's hockey program, which certainly can't hurt recruiting.

Cheers,
Kyle

So here's a silly question....

Scott is 5'6" (on skates, including hair)....I'm about 6'3" with long arms. I know jerseys are big, but would the sleeves on a short guy's jersey be ridiculously short on me?

His father said everyone in Texas expects them to donate his jerseys for auctions and stuff, so I don't think they're just hoarding all of them or anything. =]

i've found that years where we win the home playoff series, the team stays on the ice and is happy to sign jerseys. years where we don't, they get off the ice. then again, i have had no problem in the past getting some players to sign on their own time, if you ask nicely.

Thanks...since I'm in town now, I think I'll goto the skate with the red thing that was mentioned by cowbellguy (oops!) and have them sign it then. I'll stop by on Friday to pick-up/pay for the jersey.

Does anyone know why they have jerseys for people who arent even on the roster? Do they just order 1 home/away in each #1-31 or whatever and just store away the extras?

They're cursed. scream

I don't know, honestly: I prefer the red to the white as a thing to wear because it's more noticeable, and more generally because a sea of red is more impressive than a sea of white... but I guess I prefer the look of white on the players, most of that probably being due to watching them so many more times in white than in red.

Cheers,

Man, we've reached a whole new level of whining this year... :)

In a few years, there'll be a announcement from the issue room that the time and location of the following year's jersey sale will be simultaneously announced on the radio and on the internet immediately prior to the sale itself, so as to avoid the problems inherent in lining up days in advance for such a hot commodity. Or something.

FYI, if you're looking to get a nameplate, PSP Unlimited told me the price for "name plates with 3" tackle-twill letters" is $5 for the name plate and $4 for each letter.

Their number is 607-272-0099.

If you're out of town, call your local hockey team (or high school athletics dept) and ask them who they use. Getting a red name plate with white 3-inch tackle-twill letters (or vice versa on the colors) should be generic enough that any reputable place can do it for you.

Well, Age makes a good point. If you buy last year's #9 and slap a "Svoboda" on the back and then walk around telling everyone you've got Dan's jersey (!), is it fair to the person who actually owns the jersey that Svoboda actually played in? Dude, that's Paul Varteressian's jersey.

are most of you all planning on wearing the jerseys? Dont all start throwing rocks at me at once, but I plan on getting the team to sign the front of it and then having it framed, or just hung up in my room. I probably wont get the name plate for Chabot, since i'd rather have the front displayed showing Cornell instead of the back with the # and name.

Since I've already given my opinion (read: spoken out of my ass) on several issues today, I figure, why stop now?

Personally? Boo. I think you should wear it, and as much as possible. It's too valuable a commodity to hang on a wall all year, and as I indicated above it's a nice bit for consciousness-raising. Even if it's signed, you can still wear it: several people in fact do this.

You can always put it back on the wall (aside: I prefer to hang it in a window, but then again, I don't have a homeowner's association in my neighborhood) when you get home after wearing it, but you'd probably need to display it in something more accessible than a frame to make this practical.

Certainly, once you buy it, you are entitled to do whatever you'd like with it, whether that's wearing it, framing it, or using it as a diaper; but I think the greatest utility to the Cornell hockey community comes by virtue of the first option.

The only caveat I'd add is that when you do wear it, you should, if at all possible, avoid acting like a jackass. I'm not accusing you or anyone else here (moi?) of that, but we want to project a positive view of the program, right? :) This is why I have mixed feelings about wearing it while playing hockey (given my skill/lack thereof, sort of the sanitary equivalent of using it as a diaper), but I just can't bring myself to stop.

Cheers,
Kyle

Dude, that's Paul Varteressian's jersey.[/q]That's the point I made last year. (Two years ago?). I have Travis Bell's jersey, though I bought it because it was Dan Ratushny's number. I feel like it would be a slap in the face to Bell to put Ratushny's name on the back, so I'm not getting a nameplate at all.

What does it matter what "most of you" are doing? You paid for it, right? If you want to frame it and display it, by all means, do it. Kyle wears his gamer to play hockey in. A lot of people wear them in the stands. Some have them signed by one or more players. Hell, you can cut yours up into little swatches, if you want.

But I swear, if anyone seriously asks "how do I wash all these stick and puck marks off?" like they did last year, I'm going to shove that person in a crate and ship them to Koronis's headquarters.

is this really an issue for which we need to establish fairness rules? i guess if you sold the jersey and lied about its details (such as who donned it) then you're being unfair to the purchaser. otherwise, who cares? others who view you in the jersey will take it as homage to a particular player (or team). and the wearer might cherish it beyond that, perhaps as an artifact, but he or she will know its authenticity.

I'm leaving the name off of mine so I can honor numerous players. Underhill is the obvious recent owner, and I really respect Chabot for sticking with the program and playing well, even though he is almost never called upon. From TBRW I found that Darren Eliot, JM Pelletier, and Paris Duffus (my time), all have worn this number as well. Best of all, there is a picture of Dryden in which I can see #1 on his back. :-)

When did this year's team start wearing the swoosh sweaters? I know that the team wore the Nike jerseys at Harvard. Did the players wear them or last year's CCM sweaters at Yale and Brown?

#19 red was choice 1a (#14 was 1b) but that was already taken... so blame the person that took #19 ;-)

I more than did my time at cornell (1991-99), and have been calling Bill every week to see if they were in.....

Here's my PSA about nameplates again: When you go get a nameplate for your jersey, make sure they use the proper sans serif font. Bring a picture of your player with his back to the camera if you have to.

I saw this on espn.com yesterday... and thought it would be appropriate to post here since there are quite a few of us who will now be making a major "fashion faux pas" (unless you are one of the people who is going to frame the jersey, instead of wearing it) :-D

Or unless you're female. According to the last sidebar, "there's nothing sexier than a sports jersey. On a woman, that is." I have a free pass :-P

On a more slightly more pertinent note, while I think wearing jerseys to sporting events where you're a fan is generally okay, those that wear sleeveless jerseys (i.e. basketball jerseys) should seriously consider what they're wearing underneath, because I will point and laugh if it looks bad. (See the top picture.) Luckily, hockey jerseys don't have that problem :)

On a much less pertinent note, I heard last week on the radio that Japanese baseball was going to require those that led cheers in the stands to have permits. When googles, this is the article I came up with: [www.japantoday.com] Imagine having to investigate every person that started a cheer in Lynah...

Yeah, yeah, I know. I kept on reading that sidebar. My "unless you're female" point may stand, though, as I would assume most girls wearing jerseys are doing it because they're ardent fans and thus have a very good reason to overrule their innate fashion sense. While guys are given the same courtesy in my mind if they're at a game (especially if I know the jersey is hard to get, ahem, CORNELL), I'm far more likely to completely dismiss them outside of that context.

omigod, that changes everything! Oh, no, wait... it doesn't.

I think an important sign of self-respect for guys is the willingness not to do whatever it takes to get some chick in the sack. When a guy starts down that road, he'll inevitably end up getting married to someone who'll nag him into his grave.

And I guess my point was that wearing something that pre-filters those who get hung up over the way others are dressed is a good thing IMO. It's a sieve---for people. :)
