Thought this might be of a social or business interest for some of you guys/gals.....The NYTimes today 6/21 had a classified ad "A popular, busy Cornell bar" for sale ....owner retiring after 30 years.

Does it list an Ithaca (607) phone number? Because then we could find out which it is... I don't care much, as long as it's not Chapter House I'll be OK. :)

I don't know what bar it is. The phone number is for Jason
Fane who owns quite a few properties in Collegtown.

Tom Tone is apparently spreading the rumor that Chapter House is for sale. No idea how accurate his sources are.

Even the local papers referred to him as a slumlord when I was in school.

Whoever buys it, just get rid of the damn live music. It's a talking bar, not a loud garage band bar. Worst change ever.

A-freakin'-men.

And if anybody actually tries to put together a consortium, lemme know. :-D

It was The Chariot that closed last week. The lease was up and it wasn't as profitable as the owner wanted. After moving some of the restaurant equipment to The Nines, the rest has been (or will be) auctioned off. It's old, but good, solid stuff. It took five people to haul the dough mixer up the steps.

This news is courtesy of my daughter, who's working in the kitchen at The Nines this summer.

I grew up a few blocks down Eddy Street from the Chariot and remember when there was a bowling alley down there, and later a ballet studio.

Doesn't anyone think that this is Dunbar's? I spoke to Pep over Slope Day weekend and he seems a little annoyed with his two minority owners that aren't helping to run the place.

Well, if it were the Chariot what exactly would you be buying? The space is rented and they kept or auctioned off the equipment.

The original post doesn't say what was for sale: real estate or a business. If it's the latter, it includes a good name and a recipe for corn nuggets.

I have heard from an inside source that the corn nuggets are ordered frozen from a supplier, not made at the Chariot. So in theory you could order them yourself for personal use, though they do have a bulk minimum.

Your "inside source" isn't all that "inside." They're publicly and openly available at other restaurants - e.g., Mandler's Sausages on Union Square in NYC.

In other words, the "recipe" is:

1. Buy corn nuggets
2. Use deep frier
