It's roughly 6:20 and the camera is already showing the pep band playing. Maybe we'll get to watch some warmups!

They are now showing center ice, so you get to see the players circle outside the zone on 3-on-2's and 2-on-1's.

i'll check back with the cornell feed at the end of the 1st.

Maybe it was the impact of not being at the game, but did it seem like the "welcome" that Lynah gave to Harvard was a little less loud and considerably less fishy than in past years? Maybe the strip'n search at the doors was better...or they threw lots of people out during the warmups.
In any case, except for some bad reffing, the red seem to be playing fairly well...and Grumet Morris has been one lucky sieve a couple of times...especially on that one cross ice pass from Pegoraro to Hynes.

Everyone seemed to be really scared to get thrown out. A bunch saved their fish til the end, and the idiots with the bottles joined in too. I think I also may have seen some ladies' undergarments thrown, but I'm definitely not positive. I didn't even get frisked, after working really hard to flatten out the octopii in my shoes. Once again it was empty threats, and there was no penalty. Hopefully the fish throwing will make a comeback next year. I'm hoping to catch my own to throw next season.

My thoughts on the game (I should start a show ):
- Even with the relatively low shots on goal totals, both goalies were at their best tonight. Lucky for us that Hyphen decided to let one get by him.
- The facetimers (the actual ones, not those called as such by "Facetimer" were out in full force tonight. While I have no problem repeating "Hahvahd sucks" on a message board like this, hearing that cheer over and over and over again at the game was somewhat annoying.
- I'm proud of myself for doing "Hey Grumet-Morris! Last year's ECAC championship game called! It said YOU SUCK!" Even if most people really didn't understand what I said, I still think it was clever.
- I say keep starting the Hornby-Abbott-Abbott line, they keep the pressure on well. I almost wish we could fit Hynes into that line, though, because he was everywhere.
- Gleed and Cook, both A+...and without grade inflation.
- Kotyra's officiating could've used some work, but I'll say that for most refs.
- I swear, after people started taking out their keys in the final minute of play, I thought, "We're about to get spanked." Thank Zod the true Faithful were able to start chanting "No keys, no keys, no keys..." to get through to the facetimers.
- There were a lot of toys at tonight's game. A bunch were thrown onto the ice (mostly Nemo, as suggested by Athletics, and other assorted fish), but there was also a bin at at least one of the entrances for additional, possibly easily-breakable toys as well. Good job by all who helped out there.

That game was intensely satisfying.
I agree about starting the Hornby-Abbotts line; in addition to the energy they usually have, they play smart too. And they cycle the puck well (especially Chris and Cam, both of whom seem to just know where the other will be), which leads to several scoring opportunities.
McKee was good tonight, obviously, but so was G-M, who made the most spectacular saves of the night (a couple windmills and a stop on Cam Abbott coming in 1 on 0 shorthanded). He didn't have much of a chance on the PPG. It was nice that Hynes' hard work paid off with a goal. He was all over the place this entire weekend, as were Knoepfli, Gleed, and Cam Abbott. I also thought Pegoraro played much better tonight than he did in the first few games of the season.
I hope Lynah will be as electric after winter break as it was tonight

what was up with the sign i saw in section A, which said something along the lines of "Hey Harvard, remember McRae?"
i don't get it... perhaps a Paolini sign may have been more appropriate.

McRae scored the GTG in Albany, which was at least as big, if not bigger, than the Paolini goal. The Paolini goal was prettier, the McRae goal was incredibly clutch.

ah. good point. that seemed to have slipped my mind (as well as those of the couple people i had traveled with throughout the postseason).
for some reason, we assumed it was in reference to mcrae's absolutely ridiculous shot in D-OT vs. BC (hence we couldn't figure out the parallel to harvard)... i suppose a goal as amazing as that tends to overshadow the novelty/importance of the GTG in albany...
i guess i have had a tendency to get offensive (defensive? uppity? i dunno what the word is)... now that my beloved old-B-sectioners are gone and we have a new breed, where not only does no one understand anything about our history or opponents (apparently the "stickless" chant was more exciting/meaningful that the "sieve-hyphen-sieve", but 1/2 the people don't even know the rules of the game ("why did the ref blow his whistle?" "for the same reason he did the last 35 times there's been an offsides"...
in any case, i stand corrected

Great find, Al. The best line of the article:
[Q]Let’s face it: Bright Hockey Center should be renamed Bright Reading Center. It’s as quiet as a library on Friday and Saturday nights.[/Q]
I also thought it was strange that the author made a big deal about the fact that neither team was in first, but didn't mention that Cornell is both undefeated in ECAC play and has games in hand on the leaders.

Exactly - as far as I'm concerned, this game did put us back in first. You have to account for half-games or winning percentage or however you want to do it. Just counting points is stupid. If you must count, you should at least count down from 44 - every loss counts -2 and a tie is -1. Counting down assumes that the teams will win all their games in hand, using half games assumes that the teams will go .500 during their games-in-hand, while counting points assumes the teams will go .000. None of those are particularly interesting - it should just be straight win percentage and be done with it!

I think Morosi's quite good. Knows what he's writing about and is not a "homer." What's he doing at Harvard?

For comparison, there's this paragraph of misinformation in today's Boston Globe (page down a bit):

Fact is nothing gives a perfect sense of the standings when there discrepencies. Using Win% assumes that teams will win exactly the same percentage of games the rest of the way, which is often impossible (we're .833 and can't win 13.33 games the rest of the way). Just take the standings with a grain of salt and don't worry too much about first place labels in December.

good point, kk. I think that's really what's at the bottom of my beef - writers always talk about what place people are in by counting points, and that bugs me. But when I think about it, I guess my real issue is that they're talking about places at all!

[Q]The toy toss was also a bust.[/Q]
I think there were a lot more toys thrown than what was shown on camera. Most of the toys were thrown before the two teams came out, and there seemed to be a good number of them. (Most people must've realized that nobody wants a toy covered in fish guts.)
I guess if you look at it from Athletics prespective, i.e. toys REPLACING fish, then yeah, it was a bust.

what was up with the sign i saw in section A, which said something along the lines of "Hey Harvard, remember McRae?"
avash is correct. my sign said "remember mcrae" on one side and "remember sammy" on the other. both were references to the harvard game at albany- the tying and winning goals.

Griping about some writer who wants to put someone in first with 2 losses, such as Brown, is wasted effort. The real worry is winning, and the satisfaction comes in Feb. and Mar., when those teams fall to where they belong. Of course we get some satisfaction from a certain annointed champion having 4 losses.

JP Morosi is one of the best. Does a lot of good work for USCHO. Only problem - poor Dylan Reese still hasn't seen Lynah, because he didn't make the trip.

[q]But the Lynah faithful managed more creativity, thanks to stellar organization. Websites such as elynah.com inform the public of Cornell cheers and game plans so as to avoid embarrassing moments like when Harvard fans mumble the middle lines of ?Ten Thousand Men of Harvard.?

I liked this paragraph, in light of the discussions here over the last few weeks (years?).
