The very notion that he felt he had single out -- out of all possible schools -- Cornell to defend his "fandom" says it all.
He understand who's boss.

Wow, what a tool. There's nobody I'd rather see Cornell beat on a national stage, but I'd been to three games at Walter Brown when that punk was in grade school watching the Devils, and I'll gladly admit that BU (like Clarkson and even WMU) has a good crowd. And if he weren't such a snot-nosed kid, he'd know we had a much better fan showing at WBA than BU did at Lynah.
Mark, can you go knock some sense into your schoolmate?

Hey, the truth hurts. I couldn't agree more. EVERY ONE of Cornell's fans are phony facetimers who wouldn't know a hockey puck from a Ring Ding. You're all useless Ancient 8ers!!!
How's that?
I read those comments and didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I chalk it up to teenage goofyness and speaking before you think. BU certainly has a good core of dedicated hockey fans, but apathy has also run rampant at the school for decades, so I don't know what this "this college, this team" blather is all about. I don't think Cornell fans take a back seat to ANYBODY in college hockey. You've earned a reputation as a strong and supportive fan base, both at home and on the road, and why this sophomore chose to make sophomoric comments in the school paper about Big Red Nation is beyond me. I wouldn't give those comments too much thought, if only because they were so bizarre.
Oh, and John, I may have gone to the same (safety) school as this guy, but considering I was there when Lance Nethery was doing the lamp lighting for the Red, I wouldn't consider him a schoolmate. Misguided yes, but not a schoolmate. Just remember these comments are certainly not representative of all BU fans -- not even close.
Good luck to the Big Red this season...at least the Terriers won't have to spend Thanksgiving break getting their hind quarters booted around Lynah again.
Peace.

I found two Jonathong Goldberg's in the BU student directory, but unfortunately I can't tell which is the right one:
Also, only the second one has an email address listed.

...and giving an interview talking about how great you are while wearing facepaint isn't trying to draw attention to yourself.
Also amusing is the proximity of the words "hip-hop" and "Jack Parker" in that story.

I know who it is - it's the second one..
I also wonder if his anger has anything to do with the fact that he got dumped by his Cornell gf .
If you wanna call him out, may I suggest you do it on USCHO ...

Hmm, I thought I remembered WBA as one of the reasonable BU posters on USCHO.

My recollection as well. I think I even remember positive comments on his part about Cornell fans and crowds.

Who knows? Maybe a tape recorder in your face or a reporter looking for something controversial can do that to you.

Al,
Yeah, I agree. I'm sure he just got carried away...
doesn't mean I'm not tempted to call him out with a 'Hey WBA, your ex-gf from Cornell who was too good for you called, she said YOU SUCK' - trying to figure out if it's too cruel. Votes?

As for kicking off the season, you could say that the ticket line marks the start of hockey season.
Also, every year the CHA hosts a "Welcome Back" picnic. This year it will be held on Oct 5. I think it's a pot-luck event. I'm sure you can get more information directly from the CHA.

Delta, I don't know what happened, but your link doesn't work. ("You do not have permission to access this page." I'm logged into USCHO and everything. Did your thread get deleted?

They don't let you post threads with a poster's name in the subject, in order to cut down on ad hominem attacks. (I predicted it would get deleted.) Also, when you do it, you might want to be less of a dick about it than you were in your first try. (I.e., just yelling at him and calling him names is as dopey as what he said in the first place. I'd recommend posting the link to the BU article and saying something like "what the hell?"

I was teasing him about it in a "Hey so and so, your mom called..." way... he said in some responses that he totally understood and deserved it. He then IMed me and we chatted a bit. He's a nice kid.
So I didn't mean it seriously and he didn't take it seriously, but I didn't realize I was breaking a golden rule... oh well

Back in my era, when freshman were not eligible to play varsity hockey, the Freshman team played vs. the Varsity, rather than the current Red vs. White.

Was the Frosh-Varsity game competitive or did the difference in experience level win out? I'll guess that it was competitive simply because I doubt Juniors and Seniors who are pretty assured of a roster/line spot had much incentive to kick the crap out of freshmen.
Then again, I bet some of the freshmen teams in the mid '60s were pretty damn impressive. So I have no idea what I'm talking about

To give you some idea, Keith, as a freshman Ken Dryden played forward in the Frosh-Varsity game. Wish I could remember the game when the class of '67 (Ned's first) were freshmen.

In general I think that there was some attempt by the varsity to put the freshamen in their place. The frosh, on the other hand, were trying to make their marks.
I don't remember exactly which year it was, but I think it was probably Ned's first recruiting class, the frosh beat the varsity. At that point I said to myself, "This is a new era," and it certainly was.
My memory is not what it once was, but it seems to me that the frosh-varsity game tradition ended before the end of the freshman team, vicitim of too many injuries and potential injuries.

Maybe you should take him to the U18 game, so he can appreciate the "Broadway show".

Maybe BU should select Jack Parker to be the next university president.
He'd probably be good at raising funds.
