Hmm... the radio announcer for Yale just said, "it feels a lot like game one." Go bears! :-D

Brown is evening up the SOGs this period (11-10 so far), sounds like the Elis are slacking off on their D.

5:59 to go. Clemente is having a great night. It's funny how Brown is playing our style (good D, great goalie) and they are able to break-up Yale's pace.

If they can play this well next weekend, it could be a close game this coming Friday.

I'm kinda worried about our match-up next Saturday because both Union and SLU have great records and we tied them both on Saturday away games this season (granted they were at home and not in a neutral arena).

Of course, this is assuming we can beat Brown, who has also shown great resilience tonight by holding off that 1-0 lead for more than 50 minutes against the toughest offense in the ECAC.

I'm also curious about how PWR will work out as a result. It's funny how the post-game hosts for Yale mentioned how they are now gonna root for us because if we don't win they could get bumped off an at-large bid.

See you guys at Albany! Go Red!

I don't think Yale has anything to worry about as far as getting a bid.

Well, Vermont could move up and Minnesota-Duluth could move up as well. Wins by both teams could be a jump in their PWR, especially for Vermont, who's up against UNH.

If we win Friday and lose Saturday, that's another lost spot among the top 14 teams and it's quite possible that Yale gets the boot. Yale needs us to win because if Union or SLU gets an automatic bid, then we are the next most-likely bid from the ECAC. In this scenario, it doesn't really matter how VT or MD does, Yale is not going to get a bid.

On the other hand, if we lose both games next weekend, that might put them on top because they will probably win the head-to-head comparison. That's our worst case scenario, but seeing how we've done well against Brown this year, especially on Fridays, it doesn't seem like that's going to happen.

If we don't win in Albany, any of the three others will take what would have been an at-large slot and could cause Cornell to miss out.

Probably good, since they are in anyway.
Plus it gives UMD a tougher path, as they now have NoDak in play-in game rather than Mankato

The goal was scored in the first period, and I only started listening during the first intermission, but the Yale announcers later said that two Yale players collided and took each other out of the play, leading to the shorty.

I got us down I think to 17th, but I didn't get us worse than a tie for 11th (with Yale) if we beat Brown. That would be 5 lowly ranked conference winners, making us the last at large bid. So, unless I missed a scenario, it's beat Brown and we're in with either a 2 or 3 seed depending on lots of stuff.

I saw this, and was going to ask questions like "how many crazy results have to happen for Cornell to wind up at 7", or "what is a more realistic number", but then I decided not to be lazy, and start fooling around with the Pairwise Predictor myself. What you failed to say, Jim (or perhaps did not know because you used different combinations) is that if all the higher seeds win their games from here on out, Cornell winds up at number 7. I thought that was significant, because it means it could happen without a bunch of crazy upsets.

I got us up to #5. You just have to wish bad things upon BC and St. Cloud.

EDIT:

And it would be a wet dream of sorts (in the East) for the Committee:

W 1 Denver
   2 St. Cloud
   3 Ferris State
   4 Alabama-Huntsville

MW 1 Miami
   2 Bemidji State
   3 Minnesota-Duluth
   4 RIT

E 1 Wisconsin
   2 BC
   3 Yale
   4 BU

NE 1 North Dakota
   2 Cornell
   3 Vermont
   4 Northern Michigan

I'm thinkin' they'd switch the E and NE regionals... A flight is, after all, a flight.

Using USCHO Pairwise Predictor I can get us to 7, but no higher.

Cloud.
I already do that just for fun anyway.

Strictly out of curiosity, what's the lowest Cornell could go?

I got us down I think to 17th, but I didn't get us worse than a tie for 11th (with Yale) if we beat Brown. That would be 5 lowly ranked conference winners, making us the last at large bid. So, unless I missed a scenario, it's beat Brown and we're in with either a 2 or 3 seed depending on lots of stuff.

Thanks.

#11 Brown at #1 Yale

I'm still in shock.

I guess Backman probably feels like a heel right now.

(ducks, to avoid the rotten tomatoes and such being thrown through cyberspace)

Don't apologize. If you hadn't been the first to make a foot-related joke, mine was going to be "Backman would be kicking himself right now if he could properly balance."

LGR. As Yale just learned, at-large bids are for suckers. The mantra remains the same: win, and everything takes care of itself.

Yep. I like our chances of making the tournament if we win our next two games. Even better if we win our next six.

Did Yale's goalie really say this on College Hockey News? [www.collegehockeynews.com] And isn't Yale's Achille's Heel now more literal?

CHN
To add to the remarkable nature of this series, the only goal of the game came shorthanded, of all things, for Brown. Mark Arcobello was flying over the blueline with the puck and collided with Yale teammate Andrew Miller. Jack Maclellan was there to grab the puck and buzz to the other end before snapping off a rising shot from the right circle at 9:21 of the first period. "I definitely should have had it,” said Yale goalie Billy Blase. “I don’t want to be too hard on myself. It was tough that it had to be the game-winner.”

The Yale goaltending has been maligned, considered the team's Achille's heel, if there was one. But Blase played well in Games 2 and 3, and if Yale gets an NCAA spot anyway, he should be the guy

Expected apostrophe remark.

Speaking of Yale's goalie, I listened to the Yale game on their student radio station, and the announcers were horrible. They referred to the Yale goalie as "Billy" throughout, while all the other players were referred to by their last names. And most of the time they didn't bother telling you which team had the puck, they just called out the names of the players who had it and you were supposed to know which team they were on.
The best thing, though, was during the commercial breaks, they kept playing promos to the Batman theme, only they substituted "Backman" for "Batman." I guess they hadn't thought to change it or not play it due to the circumstances!

Agreed they were confusing at times, but they were rather objective and respectful of the opponent's performance. Ya know, sort of like the Brown announcers :-}

I'm not sure if it was the play-by-play or color guy, but one of the guys is a student. At the end of the game, they said something along the lines of if Yale doesn't make the NCAA tournament, this will have been his last game because he is graduating. So when you consider the age and relative lack of experience doing these kinds of broadcasts, I was pretty impressed.

If it was a student doing pbp, it's very impressive. That's one of the most difficult announcing jobs in any sport.
