Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 5 months ago
BearLover ... I guess Syer understood he wasn’t going to be the next head coach, and so he left? I still think he’s the most likely next-next head coach (after Jones, who, again, is 56). I believe Mike is 62 and will be 63 when he retires. He's also had some serious health issues. If Casey coaches until he's 63, he'll be HC for 7 years; 9 if he retires at 65. Regarding recruiting, I thinkby Swampy - Hockey

Scersk '97 billhoward Schafer's record: 3 ECAC championships Ummmmm, 6 ECAC Championships. The database isn't working, so I can't check which one of you is right. But I suspect Scersk is. So, I'll add this: And we're returning a team that's loaded, with two coaches that have both proven they can coach at the highest level. djk26 South Side defeated Victor in overtime yesterday, 12-11, to win the New York State championship. Another comeback for South Side, who trailed 6-3 at halftime. Absolute heartbreaker for Victor as South Side scored the game tying goal wih 0.8 seconds left in regulation and Victor loses the championship game by one goal for the second year in a row. BearLover marty Trotsky The rubber meets the road in the NHL draft. Taking the round, to try to compensate for the larger pool of players by relating it to the larger number of teams: Rd 1 (2) Pokulok, Nash Rd 2 (8) Nieuwendyk, Manderville, Ratushny, Hughes, Belzile, Pelletier, LeNeveu, Sawada Rd 3 (10) Dryden, Lowe, O'Byrne, Hynes, Starrett, Cairns, Stienburg, Ertel, Fegaras, Castagnaby Swampy - Hockey

David Harding Might as well post it here. Ithaca Voice picks up press release announcing that Ithaca is going to share a USPHL team, The Elmira Impact, with Elmira. They call it a semi-pro team, but later emphasize that the players don't get paid so they can retain their amateur status. Ithaca games will be at The Rink in Lansing. marty Swampy The Rancor Ol' Joey Nieuwendyk comes to mind as well. Blue chip, but alas... he only won it all as a pro. Ken Dryden too. But he was planning to go to Princeton, and Ned convinced him to go to Cornell instead. And IIRC, his brother was already playing for the Chicago Black Hawks. BearLover Trotsky Moving over from the older thread, it would be interesting to note our most-hyped incoming players. I'm not privy to that information, so I have no insight. It's also easy to be polluted by the actual results of careers once here. I do recall Riley Nash as having a "thank god he chose us!" presence in fans' minds before he entered. BearLover RichH BearLover Troyfan BearLover Troyfan Cutting sports that aren't profitable might prove to be a backdoor benefit for Cornell. The $$$ to compete in football and basketball might get to be so huge that programs like Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin will be forced to choose between them and minor sports. Trotsky BearLover abmarks As i understand It, the payments are to come from revenues. Unless schools can boost their revenues, if they pay any of the athletes, they're going to be having to cut back somewhere else. The money doesn't come from thin air. billhoward Local MotionRegardless, the future is bright for Cornell lacrosse and Go Big Red!!! Agree with all you said. At some point when older alumni fans look at lacrosse or hockey, we'd kind of like our present to look bright. Cornell has the fire power, but all I am saying is our defense needs to be more physical. Even though Cornell had a great season, we lost the overall season turnover battle 202 to 215. Re: Bye-bye Ben - 7 months ago
The Cornell website still has Ben as Associate HC. But unless he can be Cornell's AHC and Princeton's HC at once, I suppose this has to be updated. Does anyone know for sure that Flanagan is being promoted or what other coaching changes for Cornell Men's Hockey are afoot? Also, since Ben oversaw recruiting, have any recruits coming in 2024 changed their minds? What about those lined up forby Swampy - Hockey
