I might be interested in joining the pep band this year, but the pepband@cornell.edu address listed on the band's website doesn't work. Anyone around here know whom I should talk to instead?

You could contact current Pep Band Manager Jason Endriss - NetID jre29

If you join, there will be at least one instrument (which one?) down in Florida this year. Last year it was nice having the 3-piece pep band for the 1st game. Too bad they couldn't stay for the second game.

Pitfalls of actually living in Florida... your family wants to drive there and back in a day instead of staying the night.

Benefit of living in the Panhandle: it's not really possible :)

Other benefits: none.  Hooray for L.A. (Lower Alabama)

I have made it *explicitly* clear to my family that for Christmas  I want 2 tickets for the tournament in my stocking and that for those 2 days, I will be at the hockey rink in time for the 4 pm game and home when the 2nd game is over (not much of an issue now that I drive down, but it was when I flew down from Oregon and had to borrow a car). Anyone from my family is welcome to come with me, but they now know better than to make plans (i.e. my b-day dinner) for me on those days.

Well, I played the euphonium in high school and will be at the tournament this year in any case (grandparents).

I figure this way I can avoid the stampede, have an excuse to go on the road with the team, and continue with music.

I wish I had that kind of clout. :-}

I obtained that kind of clout by moving far away (I lived in Oregon for 4 years, and now am a bit "closer" living in Indiana), such that my parents only saw me 2 times a year. Thus they are so happy to see me (especially if I stay for 10-14 days at Christmas-time), it is like the Prodigal Daughter ;-). Also, I'm now "financially independent", so when I do visit, they know I won't be looking to raid the refrigerator and wallets and are willing to cut me some slack  :-).

Since when does being financially independent mean you can't raid your parents' fridge?  :-D

I solved the problem by converting Mom into a hockey fan. :-D

The band had quite the impressive display of chalk drawings and writing today...
